$$$$ - Unclaimed Funds!!!!

Last night there was a special about unclaimed funds; how people have money and/or property that they didn't know about. After my mother passed away I actually looked into this but didn't find anything. I also put in my name as well as other family members and friends. NOTHING. After last night's special I went to the site again on a whim and was shocked to see MY NAME!!!! Apparently it had not been reported until 2004 (a few years after my initial search.) I called this morning with a question and was surprised to hear that I was able to expedite the retrieval by phone. It's only about $140.00 but I'll gladly take it! Here's the link where you can check. I hope some of you get lucky too! :D

Edited to add this site, which might be easier to navigate! http://www.unclaimed.org/

Cool, I checked, I have MONEY...not much, $50 - 100 is all I know so far, it is from an old health insurance policy.

I watched Dateline also but never checked, thanks for posting this.

Bearygood 07-15-2008 09:26 AM

Earl, that's what mine was too! Actually, mine looks like it's a LIFE insurance policy premium which is confusing since I've only ever had one through a job. Best as I can figure, it must have been a payroll deduction from the last job I had that was pre-paid. I'll never know for sure but hey, that's okay! :D

For anyone who has money, hang on the phone for an operator. I had printed the form and was going to have it notarized when they informed me that I might qualify for the expedited refund -- and I did!

I don't work, have time, plugged in some names and my dead dad's appeared!!
Doubt it's much but it was his, a comforting thought to those left behind (me and siblings), MY DAD'S NAME!!!!!

Bearygood 07-15-2008 09:40 AM

Great!!!

kicker and anyone else, keep us posted! This is GREAT!!! Even a little surprise is a good one but I hope someone here hits the jackpot! :D

YIKES !

I just found another $107.89 from an auto insurance company.

Initially, there was nothing, then I just kept going back and entering every city that I lived in over the past 42 years (one at a time), and then this new one came up!
:D

I still need to know your finders fee !;)

Bearygood 07-15-2008 08:04 PM

Vic, how cool! I posted about the finder's fee in the other thread -- I've gotten "paid" many times over today. Many big :Ds!!!

Here's a site that actually may be a little easier to navigate than the MSNBC one: http://www.unclaimed.org/

Well, at least richer. :) Every little bit helps, I say -- especially these days!

Bearygood 07-21-2008 09:30 PM

Whoo hoo! I got my check today! I still can't figure out what this money is but who cares! I'm $143.50 richer than I was yesterday! A friend of mine found over $4,000!!!

I'm sooooo going to check this site once a year! :D

MelodyL 07-21-2008 09:48 PM

Well, isn't this interesting.

I'm putting in everybody that I know.

Maybe something will come up.

I'm putting in my name, parents, Alan, etc.

Hey, I might be the next Donald Trump

lol

Melody

Bearygood 07-21-2008 10:37 PM

Hope you find something, Melody! If you moved to another state, don't forget to check there, too!

MelodyL 07-22-2008 09:29 AM

Nah, Brooklyn, Born and raised.

But you just reminded me.

My parents moved to Florida when I was 24 years old.

I checked for their Brooklyn location. Never thought about the Florida one.

Thanks MUCH!!!

Melody

Update!!!

Found some money under my father's name but next to the name it says MD.

My father wasn't a physician.

Can there be two people by the same name residing in Florida (I gather there must be MANY), so how do you know if it's the correct person? We are talking 3 bank accounts totalling around $400. Not a great deal of money, but if these were my dad's how the heck can I find this out??

Thanks, Melody

Bearygood 07-22-2008 01:45 PM

Well, the NYS people are very helpful! If you need them, call the number listed on the site and do NOT press any of the options when you get the recorded message. Hold the line and an operator will pick up. Make sure you have the SS# handy. When I spoke to them it took me all of 3 minutes and I was able to do "expedited refund" over the phone.

Not sure about Florida but it's worth the same try -- every state really seems to be different, even in terms of what they will show you online or tell you over the phone.

Report back with your riches and good luck! :D

Last time this was mentioned I searched and my daughters name was there. It actually was money I had put out for medical bills that was reimbursed. She got the check and cashed it

I looked again after the special on good morning america and found my deceased Dad on an old credit card. It must have been too much paid on the payoff and small amount but it is better for me to get for grandchildren for then the gov to have.

I am glad it reran. Thanks for the post

About 20 years ago the state of california (lower case indicates lack of respect) said they could not find Bob Hope and others with similar fame. It may have been John Wayne or
whoever. The state agency whined that they did not have the staff to chase these people down. You get the idea. We should all try to file every January 15th or something like that.

I had money from metlife. I wrote a long post on how they mistreated us on that one, but deleted it. metlife uses mellon to find you. I consider all of them incompetent or liars. The story played out over 2 years. I finally got my money from 1947, but no thanks to them. If you do business with them, file with your state, your previous states annually. mellon was hired to find us, but they were too stupid to Google my name and city (which they had). If they had Googled me, all my info was right there. "nuff said".
