The Perfect Place To Live???
Just wondering.....is there a perfect place to live if you have MS? Mild winters (nothing under 40 degrees) and cool summers (nothing over 80 degrees).
I've always thought that the Pacific Northwest would be the perfect place to live. Rain and clouds don't bother me. Tornados and severe storms do - and we get a lot of those here in GA. I just cannot take this heat....it's disabling to the point of me not being able to do anything after about 10 AM. Yesterday I went to the bank and grocery store (and my son even drove!!) and it literally took me all day to recover. Maybe I could go live with Koala during the U.S. summers since it's winter where she is right now - and come back home when it's winter here!! :p Here in GA it starts getting hot in May and we don't even get any cold weather until at least January. And then it's only abut 3 months of it. I know the people in the NE want to kick my patooty right now!! :D :o If you could live anywhere where would it be? |
This comes up from time to time and we can't ever seem to find our utopia. The PacNW is gorgeous, no doubt, and it is a region I would consider.
My own plan is the greater Asheville, NC. There's a cool little town just under the fog line but still in enough elevation for cooler summers. Very mild winters and the snow season is quite short, for me, winter is basically sweater weather there. If I can, that is where I hope to land when my term here is finished. If you can afford it, the windward side of the Big Island of HI is pretty much year-round perfection. A little rainier than average, but it's always nice, very pleasant temps and breezes. When you find the perfect place, make a reservation for me too, and I'll meet you there, okay? :) Of course, there's always Toad Hollow. ;) |

Asheville, NC is beautiful....and only about 2 hours north of where I live in GA. About 170 miles, I think. I watched a show on TLC about living in HI and I know for sure I cannot afford it!! The houses they were showing were smaller than what I'm in now and cost about $400K!! Guess I could pitch a tent and live on the beach....NOT! The heat is just really bothering me this summer - and we have probably three more months of uncomfortably warm weather to get through. I can remember Halloween's where we would come home from trick-or-treating (back when it was safe to do those things ) and be so hot and sweaty. I've thought about TN - maybe up past Chattanooga. I love the mountains. Who knows.....if it's meant to be then it will happen. ***from what I've heard there is a certain someone in Toad Hollow that causes all kinds of trouble...** |
Toad Hollow???? My foot! Last winter was the worst one I can remember since 1978 *yr my DS was born*. I concur AMN; Asheville, NC is just as you said and I think a good place to land. My DD lives in NC, but she's closer to the coast and it's scorching there right now.
The good Lord willin and the creek don't rise, we plan to spend a month or so in NC during the month of Jan after DH retires in a couple of yrs. We'll see~~~ I just can't even think about Winter coming; it was such a dismal one for me. |
I have a lot of relatives in NC - in the Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and Nashville areas. It truly is a beautiful place to live.
I remember the last time I went there wasn't any traffic - or at least no traffic like I'm used to. I think the metro Atlanta area has the worst traffic of any state - with the exception of CA, I guess. I'd just like to be in a small "one red light" town, not much traffic and everybody knows one another. Wait.....I've lived in an "everybody knows each other" town before and they knew things about me that I didn't even know yet!! Maybe I'll stick with the "one red light" and "no traffic". :o |
Cloudcroft, NM...

Really tho...I couldn't move that far away from my kids and my family! But the Chamber of Commerce website sure was inviting! Imagine...70 degree weather in July! |
Whenever you find that perfect place (without the three Bs...Bears, Boas and Big Bugs), let me know and I'll pay to have a condo built for me....close so I can pester the he!! out of you...LOL.:D ....JK, I'm a very private person..er..hermit..:)
|
I am moving to Cloudcroft too. Someday? It looks beautiful!
|
Monterey, CA. Never too hot, never too cold, but the dampness made it seem perpetually chilly. The big joke is that August is the coldest month of the year,
|
Greta, what's the climate like where you're moving in Italy?

http://www.silvercity.org/weather.shtml NM is very beautiful! I have traveled quite a bit in the northern part of the state. The springs and summers are so beautiful. The winters can be rough with lots of snow. Still it is gorgeous country. |
If you want a one horse town you can move to Tn...we are about 1 hour from NC and a couple from Virginia and 3 from Ga and we have plenty of one post office, one store towns around here..just stay out of Knoxville and you are good, I can't remember the last time we had snow and our weather is very close to Ashville's, cost of living is low here too!
|
Toad Hollow is a 1/2 horse town, no stop lights and a great view of the river.
Come on down, errr over, err up.....errr you know what I mean. We even have a wine named after us. |
A friend of mine from Graduate School moved to Trurro, in Cape Cod, and LOVES it. She told me the that during the summers it never is above 78 degrees (they don't even have air conditioning). During the winters it rarely gets below 40 degrees, and it's got a very small town feel to it. I loved the New England area during the time I lived in NYC. I also like Asheville. We went up there this past Christmas whilst my Mum was here visiting on holiday.
Kelly, I understand what you are saying about the weather here in the summers. I ABHOR the summers here.:o I'm fine in the mornings, but by the time I leave the office to come home, I am spent from just walking to my car which is parked in an indoor parking lot. It's just horrid here.:( |
Just got my Money magazine today and they have their annual best places to live issue. Might want to check it out!

DH tells me that it's a lot like where we live now in VB. Hot in the summer not terribly cold in the winter, but damp. I"m thinking I'm going to invest in a window AC unit (no central AC there) just for the bedroom so at least I can sleep in a cool place. T minus 2 months!! I'm coming to ATL this weekend to teach a class and visit my mom, but I'll be back in mid August for a week or so with DH. Maybe you and Chris and I can get together for a cup of coffee (or in my case...tea)?? |
Kelly - you move to TH and I will come with ya.... I have never been there but I got close. I thinking if they have a wine named after them it can't be all that bad?

Any town that has a wine named after it has to be my type of place! :D |
