Anyone get a reaction to mosquito bites??
Thought I would just ask who has reactions to mosquito bites. In recent years I get these really bad lumps, sometimes with bruising that drive me nuts with itching that leave red red marks for weeks.
Although I try to avoid going outside, they seem to get me more while I am sleeping or driving. I cant win... I did find extra strength benedryl spray that covers them up with a little film and am using a spray with citranella oil in it. Anyone?? Jan |
me me me! they love me! they leave HUGE welts on me.
I found (dont laugh) a bounce dryer sheet tucked into my shirt, will make them go away. They hate the smell or something. Skin so soft was also good. those after bite sticks full of amonia are great for after care. Alchohol is good too. I have plenty of alcohol wipes laying around here from all the injectables. DONT SCRATCH! |
I also get huge welts.

Midges, sand flies, ants, mosquitoes.....they all leave huge welts on me and I itch like crazy for days and days and days. It seems to me that over the years I've developed sensitivities to everything bitey, and where-as once I'd get a little itchy spot, now my "spot" is more likely to be the size of a golf ball! |
I get welts but not bruising or anything like that. But, mosquitos love me too! Never been stung by a bee in my life but if there's a mosquito around it'll find me!!
|
I seem to be reacting to them this year more than normal. Too, at night while sleeping I scratch them. I take Allegra to help with the itch.
Take care. |
Ok so "something" is making these every summer days worse when bitten!!
The benadryl spray has helped. I did not mean to say I scratch as much as I have noticed that it tkae days weeks/months for the RED RED marks to go away. And this year I have noticed that I get major swelling with bruising... can a mosquito do that? Jan |
I get softball sized welts that bruise...always have and both of my kids do as well!
|
The skeeters used to love me when I was a kid, but now they just land on me, turn their noses, and BOLT. I swear they "know" something . . . :p
Everyone else is getting eaten alive this year, as per usual. I get the odd bite, but I attribute that to that mosquito being immature or not so swift. ;) Cherie |
I despise those pesky things... I don't have a huge reaction, but they love my DH and DD. My DD got 9 one night and the area around each one of them became inflamed and she got really sick. We know it was the bites, b/c it had happened before.
Thanks for the dryer sheet tip, Deji... We are going camping this wkend, but I don't think I will be outside as much.... |
I don't go out that much, but Mosquitos have never bothered me. Yes, Cherie, they must smell a MS rat..LOL.

Mosquitos and fleas create Mt. Rushmore size mountains on me. And itch.... boy, does it itch. I'm probably the first person at the vet to get flea and tick stuff.

I used to get allergic reactions, so did my oldest son and now his daughter. This is a pic after a Labor Day picnic last year. We put bug stuff on but couldn't get close enough to her eyes I guess.
She was on liquid steroids for a bit, that's fun to try to get down a 2 yr old, yucky taste that can't be hidden in anything. She got bit on the back of her arm last week, swelled all up and looked nasty. I hope she outgrows it like her Nana and Daddy did. |
I tried the dryer sheet thing and the dryer sheet itched almost as bad as the bites LOL any tip I should know?

Pesky bites
I went thru a time when a mosquito bite left huge whelts on me. I was having lots of skins reactions to everything there for awhile and the bugs left marks for days.
I was told that you should avoid eating bananas cause something comes thru the pores of your skin that they are attracted to...... That same persons told me to drink lemon in your water or real lemonade while outdoors because skeeters don't like that smell....and skeeters are actually attracted by the carbon dioxide that we exhale....so maybe the lemon masks the scent??? Worth a try. |
Here in Alaska we are experts at living with this pest. The citrinella candles are not as good as the Coleman Mosquito wicks. Burn these in bulk around the area you plan to hang out (Ex: back yard) then for those who manage to get through get a product called "After-Bite". It helps immediately and works the best, IMO. As soon as you get the bite, apply this product immediately. I keep several around the house and cabin just waiting for the inevitable.

I swear, and I try not to, heheee..that I get bitten more in my house then outside. AND in my car while driving!!
Now I carry that citronella oil spray and I smell..well...like Citronella !!! I felt badly for the lady who sat next to me at the movies. LOL Its not a bad smell, fruity. Even when I am sleeping I swear something is biting me under the covers....whats up with that?? Here I avoid the outdoors as much as I can, and get bitten up at home !! Gonna try the dryer sheets next. Jan |
just got all bit up the other night and all of them swelled up big time a few are still swelled? so whats up with that, ms? or meds? and i am pretty sure we are all not on the same meds so its got to be a MS reaction
|
ME , me, ME!! Oh jeez - do those pests love me!
I guess I am just too sweet! ;) I get welts, and they all itch TERRIBLY, so I scratch  I'll have to remember the dryer sheets. |
