Blinded from a catarac lens coming loose and falling backwards.

Hi, has anyone had a catarac lens come loose at the top of the eye and fall backwards in the eye where you couldn't see? Mine did. Was risky to remove it as was connected at the bottom still. Said it was risky to leave it in but didn't know how risky as hadn't done any testing on it. Couldn't put another lens in as would have to put it in the front of the eye, which doc said that also was risky. So the other choice I had was to leave it and take the lesser risk (hopefully) and be fitted with a high powered contact lens. I figured that would be the best way to go. It still isn't right but ordered another lens, so hopefully that works. My Glossopharygneal Neuralogia hasn't been back eithor. I thank God that I didn't loose my eye sight permanentally, and my Neuralgia didn't come back. mjacobs 22

Hi, Mjacobs22...

I've never had a problem like that myself, but an uncle of mine had a similar injury happen at work when a bungee cord popped loose and the steel hook dragged across his eye. He's seen a lot of specialists since it happened about twenty years ago, but so far the best they've been able to do is to restore his vision in that eye only partially. He has to wear very strong glasses, and even then everything is blurry in that eye. I hope that you find out your injury is simpler and easier to heal. Good luck to you! :)

Hi, Mjacobs! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing, thank goodness you haven't lost all vision.

Koala77 07-24-2008 03:45 AM

I've had something a little like that, but way milder than the problems you had from your contact lens.

I have had a lens slip into the nose side of my eye and I wasn't able to get it out for hours. Mine did eventually move outwards so that I could eventually get it out, but I assure you it wasn't very nice.

I'm glad you've not been bothered by the Glossopharygneal Neuralogia because I know how horrid that can be.

I actually wanted to welcome to NeuroTalk mjacobs22. It's good to have you with us.

Catarac lens

Koala, The lens that came loose was one from a catarac surgery , one that was sewn in, not a contact lens. The replaced it with a contact lens.
Glad you didn't have a lot of trouble. Mjacobs 22

Wow that is terrible. I just had my second eye worked on and it is giving me some trouble. I cant put my hand on it but my eye just doesnt seem right. Sometimes it feels as if the lens might be moving around a little. Did this happen all at one time or did u have some symptoms leading to this? I would like to hear more about this. I am a little scared I may be in trouble also.

lens from catarac surgery

Hi, Sorry I hadn't answered sooner things have just fallen apart. My eye gradually started to give me trouble. My optromotist said the retna was pressing against my lens and was wearing thin, and was getting light behind the eye, Sometime later I got to where I just couldn't see good and the same day my sight was just gone in that eye.
The lens is still in the back of my eye, which is risky but no choice, and they fitted me for a high powered contact lens, so now I can see. They are just afraid I may get infection in that eye then who knows what I will have to go through with. So far so good.
My neuralgia had come back around this time also, so have been out of pocket. I found a upper cervical chiropractor that has taken care of the neuralgia and won't be back. Would of never thought it was possible. You might check it out as it isn't just for neuralgia. Go on line to:
whattimetuesday.com and check out the upper cervical chiropractor. It is amazing what this doctor is doing. Keep in touch. Myrna

Hello myrna and welcome to NeuroTalk. Yikes! That sounds awful. My DS is near blind and my DD has a younger person's version of Macular Degeneration, so I know a little bit about eye problems, but have never heard of someone's lens doing that. Hope you can get things straightened out soon. Glad you found us and I do hope you'll check out our many forums and join in anywhere.
