Cannibis...to halt PROGRESSION???!!!
Well, we know about the uses for symptom management (with mixed reviews) -- but now a study tracking it's effectiveness to stop progression?!?! Actually, a SECOND study! This is the CUPID study but apparently there was an earlier one called CAMS that showed promising results. Completely missed THAT one!
Wow. Clearly I didn't spoke enough pot. Maybe that was my problem. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0721114608.htm |
I'm going to ask my neuro what prompted him to ask "Do you smoke pot?" when I was first dx'ed. He didn't proceed to ask about harder drugs. Just the pot question. When I told him "Not in years now", he just went on to family history questions lol.
Perhaps he was going to see if I was already keen on the idea! Hrm? :) |
Just like any other Med, it helps some and not others. Medical MJ should definately be legal..
|
Sally, did you know about the studies about using it to stop progression (not just sx management)? This was seriously the first I heard about it!
|
I read in 1992 in Time magazine it would slow progression. It was under their medical brief notes...

I say, if it helps you fight MS, in any way, then...DO IT!! |
We are currently waiting for Illinois to pass the mj law. It's on the books and hasn't been thrown out. Jim and I thought about marching with a group of advocates for mj but then changed our mind. AIN'T no one seeing my face outside of here until its legal! lol
Jim, on the other hand wants to go all the way to Springfield and sit on the steps of the Illinois General Assembly! He's even said he'll offer a live demonstration of how mj helps him when his clonus is acting up. Mercy! |
god bless that man sandy,
it would be nice if they passed the medical MJ there are a few others that could use it glacoma and kemo paitents, will see what happens |

Now, I'd be a REALLY happy camper though if they found out that a vodka martini could do the same trick! :D |

sigh
Here in Connecticut the law passed the House and the Senate, but Governor Rell vetoed it! Sigh.
:(:(:( |
I would love to see a federal overhaul on mj! I can't smoke it anymore...long story, personal choice...BUT...then again, wouldn't an advocate who doesn't smoke it...be a good advocate? ;)
Legalize the stuff for the greater good! Sandy's Jim is a prime example of WHY it should be legal at a federal level! Why should he be limited to where he travels because he can't take his meds with him! Alright! I'm glad there is a study out there showing that it can stop progression! :) Best of Luck to all the mj bills accross the states... |

This is interesting -- there are actually TWO studies being conducted simultaneiously, CUPID and MUSEC: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/new...x.aspx?nid=205 I also found this, which details some history on research: http://www.ukcia.org/medical/multiplesclerosis. |
I think we should all move to the UK! haha

It's not legal anywhere in this country and not likely to be for a long time, if ever.
I wonder if eucalypt leaves would do the same thing?? . |
Hmm, maybe Koala. When you try them let us know and we'll be right over Ok? Seriously, I've always wanted to visit!
|
MJ was a legal prescription in the US until Regan...
For those with MS they could get their prescription from their doctor and pick up their joints at the pharmacy. What other illnesses were included I do not know but MS was one of them!
|
I have a friend who actually received MJ as pills, not joints, as part of his cancer treatment (not sure what State off hand). He said they helped immensely.
I wasn't a huge fan myself of MJ for recreational use, but I did find that when I had severe cramps from my monthly visitor (before I knew I had severe endometriosis), MJ didn't make me 'high', it did completely take away the pain of the cramps I had! If we're taking this for sx in a controlled amount, I don't think we'd experience such the euphoric effects of it, as those who use it for recreational purposes. Or I should certainly hope not! |

You are right on about that Catch! Here in Illinois they are calling it a pilot program and we all know what that means. It's a test to see how things go. So Jim has decided no way is he asking for anything until it is legal for all, not just a testing program. He said what if it fails? Then they know all the pot smokers! lol
