Whutzit?

Can anyone tell me what this is? My boss gave one to each of us 3 clerks, and none of us knows what it is. :o

Tuppermade it, but I checked their site and found no clues.

So, dear NT friends, I'm asking your help to solve this little mystery.

And yes, I know it's some sort of strainer, but why the lid?

Whutzit?

weegot5kiz 07-22-2008 06:28 PM

the lid might be if you strain some greens or what ever and want to put them in icebox you can cover them???

Doody 07-22-2008 06:40 PM

Well, darned if I know Twinkadoodle!!! Is he handing anymore of those out, because they sure look fun to me. :D

Doody 07-22-2008 06:42 PM

Oh wait wait!!!! When I rinse off lettuce in a colander, I shake it up and down and around to try and get most of the water off. Maybe it's so you can really shake it up? :o

Aarcyn 07-22-2008 06:54 PM

I know what that is!!! It is a very lovely plant holder for a Venus Flytrap!

See the holes, that is for root drainage.

Just place the nice plastic thing-y in the ground and wha-lah! When the Planet Venus appears in the sky next to the moon, a fly will be trapped in the round part and it will grow and grow.

If this plant begins to talk to you and say, "FEED ME!!!" Run don't walk to your nearest astrologer...or is it astronomer...I get confused easily...

As you can see, I am no help at all. It is hot and my imagination just went to the wild side of life. Geez, plants = wild side? I need to stop now!:D

Doody 07-22-2008 06:57 PM

LOLOL Aarcyn! The heat is getting to a lot of us I think, but...you really had me going there for a bit!

Twinkletoes 07-22-2008 08:30 PM

Well, at least I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who's stumped!

Lol Aarcyn! :D

Doody, it's not big enough for a head of lettuce. *shrugs*

Frank, if you put wet greens in the fridge, it'll leak. *shrugs again*

Bobbi 07-22-2008 09:00 PM

I'd say, it's not only a strainer and a seal for cold storage but also for use in serving: A serving dish to make for a lovely Tuppermade presentation.

Efficiency.

:D

I'd agree with you, except for several tiny problems: holes in the bottom! ;)

who moi 07-22-2008 10:35 PM

LMAO aarcynic, I KNOW exactly the plant that you were tawking about!

feed me, seymour...feed me!!

now twinkie,

that thing looks to moi like...well, since yer boss gave it to the three of yas. It looks like "whack moi sticks"

what you do, is take yours and whack your other two workers with it and then they are supposed to whack you back with theirs. But I think first of all, you all need to cut out a big gigantic card board box with three holes, with each one enough to hold yer heads.

Then, you can play this game, kinda like "Twister" but you can now call it "twinkie"

Yes, I think I have the right answer! What's moi prize???

Bobbi 07-22-2008 10:55 PM

Salad strainer, lid/serving dish; 3-in-1.

ETA: Additionally and alternatively, my guess is also: Pasta colander and serving dish. Pasta out of colander and straight to serving dish, piping hot.

who moi 07-22-2008 11:15 PM

think I found its grandmother...

Looks vintage judging by the lovely shade of Harvest Orange! Is it about the size of a one cup measuring cup? If so, my guess is that it is some sort of a sifter.

You would have a lid so you could shake it without flinging flour about the kitchen.

AfterMyNap 07-23-2008 08:57 AM

I think it's a duster for powdered sugar, cocoa powder or other light-weight decorative dustings. The light-weight powder is kept under control by the lid, thus no cloud of yuck all over your counter. It's held over the object and tapped on the lid to give an even distribution. You've seen the fancy brownies with the nice, even dusting of white powdered sugar, right?

When you're between dustings, put the lid, clean side down, on the counter and place the sifter on top of it to keep your counter clean.

Do I win? Is there a prize????

ETA: Hey, it just occurred to me that if the lid actually fits securely, you can just leave it on and set the whole thing down on the lid side. Maybe that's the "special" aspect of this very unique item. Myself, I use a regular old stainless strainer and a measuring cup to hold it while I don't need it. I'm not a fan of dedicated tools, they're a wast of my precious space!

sabimax 07-23-2008 09:21 AM

AMN< no prize but if someone starts sifting chocolate anything...they better sprinkle it on something and bring it to MY house...love chocolate..hehehee

the sifting idea sounds right, since it looks small...maybe to sift flour, powdered sugar....now that I figured it out with AMN help...can I have the prize...hehehehee shhhhh AMN doenst know there really is a prize...send it my way!!!! ;)

hugss all, sarah (maybe it is the beating coworkers idea after all)

Vonn07 07-23-2008 09:50 AM

I like AMNs answer ...

maybe - ask your boss if he'd like some do-nuts (so you can practice shaking on the powdered sugar on 'em)

Cindy, I think you're on to something. BUT, what the heck is that little round doowoppy with a slot that looks like you can hang it on a can or something?

What? Not a fan of dedicated tools? I love gadgets!

Got another for you in a minute (soon as I quit accidentally erasing my memory card).

I'm so bad at this, but I'm getting better! Hey, I've got 2 photo albums started.

AfterMyNap 07-23-2008 11:00 PM

Hold up a hot minute here. First, what the heck is "Tuppermade supposed to mean?

You know, Tuppermade, as opposed to KitchenAide or RubberMaid. TupperMade! :D

Bobbi 07-23-2008 11:29 PM

I still have no clue as to what Tuppermade might be :o. Maybe my brain cells are slow or something.

I can't imagine, though, giving someone something and expecting the recipient to guess what it is. That's just me, and I'm probably more direct.

ETA: I looked and looked for a Tuppermade site, and I couldn't find one. I do believe I am Net savvy and tried different domain configs. as well. Still nothing on Tuppermade.

I would ask: I can see how it may be used for straining and sealing, but: Exactly what is it?

If someone gives me something, and it just makes no sense to me: I do ask. Otherwise? I'd use it as I see fit and not worry about it.

But would you dare admit you didn't know what it was??? None of us said a word, other than "Thanks, Boss!" ;)

Bobbi 07-23-2008 11:35 PM

I'd ask. That's just me, possibly, and maybe a bit of my straightforward manner or possibly Asperger's. I just wouldn't have time for the "guess work." And, if the boss don't know: I'd want to know where I can make the exchange.

Heck, for all we all know, maybe it's something used for mixing paint.

Bobbi 07-23-2008 11:38 PM

It does seem, though: It is some cooking/measuring related object - given the shapes. And, multi-purpose.

I could say it was rather nice of your boss, but it seems rude when no detail accompanied the "gift" that self-explains. Would I do that to someone? No. People would probably want to take back or make an exchange, and that would be reasonable to such a "gift."

Twinkletoes 07-23-2008 11:40 PM

Bobbi, Lol! :D

DiMarie 07-23-2008 11:43 PM

What about putting in confectioners sugar and if you make funnel cakes you can shake it over and then lay down upside down not to come out until the next batch, or cookies, cakes, pancakes, etc.?
