I'm In Shock.......But Relieved!!
On 6/4/2008 I submitted my application to SS for disability benefits. I kept a printout of the confirmation and a copy of all subsequent communication I received from them.
Well, today - in the mail - I received my Notice of Award for SSDI to begin in September 2008! I'm in shock.......less than 2 months from the date I applied I was approved??? Is that normal? I must be livin' right (my Dad used to say that) or my guardian angel is working overtime in my corner. :) |
WHAT!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!!!!! |
that's wonderful news, Kitty !!
especially because the backlog was so bad a while back... but apparently, they've instituted a new program to clear up the backlog: In an attempt to speed up the application process, beginning in August of 2006, the SSA implemented changes to the application process in the six-state New England region, on a trial basis. On December 1, 2007, the SSA implemented the program nationwide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_...lity_Insurance |

I'm not sure, Sarah, but it's worth a call to SS to find out. The toll free number listed in my paperwork is 800-772-1213. I hope you get to feeling better. I'm sure the heat and humidity isn't helping, either.... |

Great news, Kelly!
I applied the first week in June, also. Was followed up by a phone interview on June 13. I worked very hard on my application, and also printed out everything that I submitted online. I have a stack of paper 3" or 4" high! The clinics where my doctors practice have all submitted medical records, and three of my doctors have written personal letters in support of my claim application being accpeted. However, my MS Specialist told me today that, although she would not attempt to block it, she would be surprised if I were accepted, because, between flares, I function fairly well. She did indicate, though, that losing 3 jobs in 6 years might be in my favor. I called Disability Determination Services earlier this week to let them know about my three July doctor appointments (2 with my MS specialist in Kansas City, and one with my neurologist in Wichita). My case worker said that, after they had requested and received information from these recent appointments, that they would likely be ready to make a determination if they have enough information. Although I've read that only 10% of applicants are accepted on the first application, your post gives me additional hope that I may in that 10%. Thanks for letting us know -- and, congratulations! ~ Faith |
I hope you get your approval notice soon, Faith. I did everything online and with the exception of a couple of phone calls from my case worker asking about certain things I really haven't had much contact with SS. I was in total shock when I got the letter today. I was expecting it to be another form to fill out!

Wow...super!!:)

Sounds like, maybe, you didn't use an attorney? I don't currently have one either, but will probably look into that again if I am denied. The attorney's office that I contacted didn't seem to be very pro-active, prior to 2 denials, and the case going to court, so I decided not to pursue it at this time. Your disabiities/symptoms must just have been obvious enough that approval was a no-brainer for them. I worry that mine are not. But, I am hopeful that, with the support of doctors, that I will be approved. ~ Faith |

Awesome news, Kitty. Congrats to you! You are special indeed.
's |
Congrats, Kelly! What a relief, huh
|
Congrats, K:D!!! My LTD case manager told me that it's harder to get approved for LTD than SSDI. I guess she was right! Now you'll get medical coverage in the future, yipeeeeee :D!!

Great News
Congratulations!:yahoo:
I know what a relief this is. I applied in Oct 07 , saw two of their doctors in January 08 and was approved in Feb 08, with benefits backdated to Feb 07. It is nice to get some validation that we truly cannot hold down a full time job and we are not crazy!! Again congratulations to you. |
That's great news Kelly!!! Congrats!!
|
Congratulations Kelly!! That's great news!!

Sorry, I am so late with this but I wanted to congratulate you, Kelly, on your SSD approval! I am so happy for you and you are so deserving!! Things are finally going your way!!

Actually, I would commend these attorneys. If an attorney takes a SS case before the second denial and you are awarded benefits, he is basically getting paid for doing nothing. At the first two stages, he does not have an opportunity to submit medical evidence or do anything to help you receive benefits. There is not an opportunity for him to represent you. However, if you win before going to an ALJ and you are represented by counsel, they would still receive 25% of your past due benefits. Basically, for doing nothing that you could not do yourself. I think attorneys that take SS cases before the second denial are opportunistic, greedy and dishonest. |
