Uploading photos/attachments

I am not able to upload photos of any kind lately. No matter what I do, it says invalid file.

I have tried attaching them to posts. I have tried putting photos in my photo albums but nothing seems to work.

The only way I can put pictures is to drop and drag from websites such as glitter graphics. If it save those files and them try to attach them as in posts, I get an invalid file error message.

Any clues?

Jaime_S 07-31-2008 08:38 PM

I posted a similar message in another thread just now! I can't upload photos either, I tried to put some in my albums, so I'm wondering the same thing!

Jomar 07-31-2008 09:40 PM

ahh , copying my replies here from the other thread...:)

Just checked mine

this is on my upload page-

[ Picture Limits
Pictures Remaining 51
Maximum File Size per Picture 97.7 KB
Maximum Picture Dimensions 800 by 800 Pixels
Pictures will be automatically resized to fit within these constraints if possible. However, you may receive better results by doing it manually.
]

I just added 2 more to mine and it worked fine...
I just let the forum software re size it if it's needed.

I know others have more than 2 in their albums.

If the problem continues for you -You can try clearing your cache & cookies to see if that helps. Sometimes things get "stuck" there and that fixes it up.
And if not we can do more detective work.

I managed to load one more pic, but I don't have time right now to try more than that, so will try later!:D

tovaxin_lab_rat 07-31-2008 10:26 PM

Seems to be working now.

:)

Curious 08-01-2008 12:39 PM

check your "manage attachments". you may be up to your limit in space. it's under Miscellaneous. click attachments.

you can clear the attchments of older posts. especially if you ever uploaded smileys. they won't be missed much if anyone is searching older posts.

using photobucket to post pictures solves the attachment problems.

The problem resolved itself with no action on my part.

DAY1 08-01-2008 03:19 PM

I just spent the last 45minutes trying to upload 3 photo's into an album and 1 for an avatar. I kept getting the invalid file thing.

I have dial up, does that make a difference?

DAY

Jomar 08-01-2008 03:49 PM

It shouldn't matter- except for the time factor-
it would take a lot longer to upload photos , because dial up has slower connection speeds. Did you try them 1 at a time?

for the avatar it does have to be the right size before uploading -
Avatar info - {Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 85 by 85 pixels or 64.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

If you need more help with your avatar there is a good thread in our Computer Forum-

Becky21 08-09-2008 12:33 AM

I can't add any pictures to my albums. It either says say too many kb's or gives a photo number or say invalid. I resized one picture to 14 kb and it didn't work.

I tried to create a new album and nothing would work. I already have 2 albums that I had no problem creating. It shows I have 49 pictures left.

I cleaned out my photo downloads from previous threads and that didn't work either.

I'm confused and need some help please.:)

ewizabeth 08-09-2008 12:37 AM

I haven't been able to add graphics from my computer to my posts for the past couple of months? I stopped doing it and have mostly just used the smiley graphics provided for birthday greetings.

Koala77 08-09-2008 12:43 AM

I'm another one having problems.

I've have been having trouble uploading photos to my album for the past week or so.

I keep getting Invalid File message.....just tried again today.

who moi 08-09-2008 12:48 AM

same here...

I am wondering if the forum uses split server for the photos and is having firewall/server issues?
(server issues meaning some codec update has either been updated but not modified or just not updated, or many of the other issues that I totally don't know nor understand...LOL)

or, the photo monsters are hiding in the corner and everytime we upload photos, they are eating them thus creating alternative source to power the NT forum...

Everyone already tried clearing browser's cache to see if that helps?

log out and then log back in fresh?

I have my Firefox browser & Flock browser set to clear cache & most cookies when I close them.

I don't use Microsoft IE very often, but here is some info on the settings for it -

[TipTip: You can adjust your Internet Explorer 6 settings to automatically clear the cache whenever you close Internet Explorer 6.
Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab. In the "Settings" box, scroll down to the section labeled "Security," and click to check the box next to the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" option. Click OK to finish. This option does not delete cookies, but it will clear your cache of other files when you close your browser.]

Yep! Done all that, and I'm using Firefox. Maybe I should try IE and see if that makes any difference!

yes to all...used firefox, IE, opera

haven't tried the other two browsers but worked up a sweat using the first three...LOLOL

Bobbi 08-09-2008 01:15 AM

I use MS I.E. 7, didn't clear the cache or do anything special, and had no problem just (as in a few moments ago) uploading a photo to one of my albums.

I also had no prob. deleting the photo (since it's not one I want to leave online).

who moi 08-09-2008 01:16 AM

I am using IE 7 as well..

I am wondering if there is something funky going on with the server itself...

who moi 08-09-2008 01:17 AM

I just tried to upload my profile picture...no go..

it worked the other day though...

It would work on and off for me...and I stay faithful to the file size, tried uploading from my desk top, serving it from photo site, blah blah blah...

I think it might be temp glitches and some of us just upload it at the glitch times?

not sure...

My server is obviously different to any that you guys are using, seeing I'm in the Land of Oz.

who moi 08-09-2008 01:18 AM

I am intrigued, though...not much of networking/server person..too much to learn...LOL

but it's got my geeky mind searching infos....

Firefox an IE 7 here also!

who moi 08-09-2008 01:24 AM

also have netscape and safari but really don't want to mess with them just to upload photos...

I like safari but hate the way it's favorites work...

Bobbi 08-09-2008 01:26 AM

I just created a new album, and entitled it: Test.

One photo did fine when I uploaded it, but it wouldn't upload a second photo at the same time.

So, I tried adding the second photo again and again, and this is what appears: "Invalid File."

Problem is: It's not an "Invalid File." It's a 486x365 pixel .jpg

I'll leave the album for now (also minus a "cover" photo because it simply will not display, and not due to anything I did on my end).

My preference is to leave my internet browser settings as I currently have them config.'d. If someone else wants to try the cache-clearing method to determine if that changes anything respective of being able to upload files, please let us know if that makes a difference. I suspect it won't, though.

It seems there is a something that needs tweaking.

P.S.: Okay, I just tried uploading a second photo, using Netscape 9, to the "Test" album I created. It states that there are 59 "Pictues Remaining." Cool. But, there's a problem. Again, when I try uploading - and I do know how to do so - it once again states: "Invalid File." (And, yes, I was logged in to NT when I tried.)

I cache clean everyday....I also use CCLEANER everytime before I log off...

I clean out all my cookies before I turn off my browsers so have tried all the routes.

I do believe it is a glitch and it might have been created during NT updates. And sometimes, some software/server issues aren't updated at the same time or might be overlooked
I think Doc will be on it soon. :)

Bobbi 08-09-2008 01:34 AM

I'm also not going to worry about it :).

I could try all night and day, yet suspect that it's a server-side prob.

:grouphug:

who moi 08-09-2008 01:36 AM

LOL, not as fun as "whuzit" is it, bobbi? LOLOL

I am not going to obsessed over it also...no, really..I am not..I am going to :Bang-Head: myself to sleep...

:grouphug:

(I just realized that smiley's are CAP sensitive...LOL double :Bang-Head:)

Jomar 08-09-2008 01:46 AM

hmm I did OK with profile picture change , but no luck with uploading one to my album....
tried both ways - pre sized and letting auto size - but no go.

must be one of those pesky glitch things..

Jomar 08-09-2008 02:00 AM

I was able to get one uploaded into the Main Photo gallery of the forum...

Bobbi 08-09-2008 02:11 AM

I was able to upload a lone photo to the "Test" album I created. It won't permit more than one, however.

Possibly, it's a members' permission that needs re-setting.

I'm sure DocJohn will figure it out :D. (Sorry, DocJohn... like you ain't already got a lot to do as it is :o.)

FinLady 08-09-2008 10:10 AM

Having trouble with an "invalid file" error too when trying to upload to albulm. Checked three times, and the jpeg is within specs. Sorry DocJohn, another one having issues with this.

Chemar 08-09-2008 11:22 AM

this is definitely something Doc will need to look in to when he comes back on.

for now I would say just hold off with the uploads till he can see what is jammin' up the works :)

DocJohn 08-10-2008 07:01 AM

Tell me if anything is fixed now......

Blessings2You 08-10-2008 07:21 AM

I just uploaded a photo to an existing album. No problem, and I'm on dial-up.

FinLady 08-10-2008 09:58 AM

Thanks, DocJohn, got it to work now. :)

Bobbi 08-10-2008 02:42 PM

Uploading a single file worked a few mins. ago, but trying to upload 2 photos, this is what displayed:

Some of the pictures you attempted to upload failed. The pictures that failed are:
  • garden1.jpg
  • garden2.jpg

To receive a more detailed error message, upload only one picture at a time.

Now, I'll give it another try, only will do so with 1 file instead of (the preferred) 2.

Bobbi 08-10-2008 02:48 PM

Not a single prob. this time when I tried :D.

Becky21 08-10-2008 10:38 PM

I must be doing something wrong because I am still receiving the invalid picture notice. I tried to add 4 pictures to my friends album and it would not let me upload. I created a new album and tried again and got the same message.

HELP PLEASE! Thank you!:)

Koala77 08-10-2008 10:42 PM

Same here Becky! It's still not happening for me either! :(

I continue to get the "Invalid File" message, and there's a red cross in the download pictures box top left, also bottom left.

I've resized my photos to a smaller size, even though they were less the the recommended size..... but to no avail. :Bawling:
