When is it time to get a disabled parking placard??
Well, lately since my first Radio Frequency Ablation (Rhizotomy) my left side gets very week and tired when I walk too much. With the FM and sciatica and now this, do you all think that this would qualify me to even think about asking any of my docs to sign the paperwork for a placard???
I'm at a loss. I have the paperwork all filled out and all I have to do is show my doc and ask him to fill out his part. I am a little scared that he will say no. If he does, should I go to another one of my docs? Today is pain doc day and in a couple of weeks I see my GP. I also feel like I failed in getting better. Does that make sense? |
i would ask. The worst that could happen is he will say no.

Go for it. I agree with simby.

Well my pain doc said that he wouldn't mind doing it but feels more comfortable if my GP does it instead since he knows my medical history all round. We will see in a couple of weeks then if he will sign it.
Thanks everyone. |
go to MV office
Go to the Motor Vehicle Office and pick up a form for your doc to sign. That will be enough of a request. Don't make much of it...just ask him to sign it. You certainly qualify.

Oh I have the paperwork Sally. I just need him to fill out his part.:D
|
I thought I would add that some states also allow you to download the form via their motor-vehicle department's website.
It is definately more convienent to do this than make a trip there to pick up the form have it filled out and then have to bring it back again. |
Thanks for adding that
That is where I got the information and the form.
Just look on your state's website and look for the link for the Registry of Motor Vehicles or whatever your state calls that department.:D Thanks Quahog!;) |
I asked my pain doc after I could no longer do the grocery store all at one time. My walking was getting worse and worse. I could not walk a NYC block without needing to stop and sit...or rest in some way..so I decided to ask my PM doc and he readily completed the form. They know us better than you think and I think most are accomodating.

Hi Wendy~
I have had one for many years. It is forever, and yet every four years I need to get Doc to sign a new one. All of mine would sign. I too, can't walk very far. I don't think you would have any trouble. This time of the year, we don't get to use them everytime we go shopping tho. At Christmas, it seems everybody has one. If you can get a permanet one, get a plate and a placard. that way you have it when you are in someone else's car. They don't charge for them.

Billie!!!!!!! I am so glad to see you! I have missed you immensely.
I see my GP next Tuesday and we will see what he says then. |
Yes Wendy, I have missed you too. I am working fairly hard and it is about to kill me, trying to move after forty-some years. I am about done. I just have a large house to clean up. At the present time I have the expenses of both homes to keep up.I never thought I could do that.
You'll be ok, just tell the doc you can't walk very far. If he already knows, so much the better. Let us know what he says. Billie:) |
Wendy - where have you been!
Hi Wendy;
I have missed you too! Where have you been. Billie and I and some others are still on the Weight forum and we would really, really, really love it if you joined us. From your comments here, it sounds like you are much like me: try one new thing to move forward but end up take two steps back. It's frustrating. Anyway, about your placard request, I think your doc will sign it, no questions asked. Good Luck. Hope to see you in the other threads. Nancy-H |
Hi Nancy!
Well today is the day I ask the doc. Well, in about 8 hours anyway!:D We will see what he says. I will keep you all posted. |
Good news!
Well you were all right! My GP doc had no problem at all filling out the doctor part of the paperwork! I brought it right down to the Registry when I found out I could have mailed it right to the main state Registry in Boston! Duh! Would have saved me a trip.
His only problem was which problem to put as the major health problem. He put severe sciatica and severe fibromyalgia! My doctor is awsome!!!! And I told him so too! Put him on the list of a pro chronic pain docs! |
I'm glad everything went smoothly. I figured it would:D
|
Thanks. I am very lucky to have an understanding GP. I know others aren't quite as lucky and that makes me sad.
The down side of all this is that it will take about a month to get the placard.:( Thanks everyone for your support on this. |

When my GP signed mine I took it to the local DMV and was given a temporary one till the real one came. Can you get a temporary one too? Hugs, Jan |
Jan unfortunately in the lovely state of Massachusetts, they don't do it that way. The local Registry doesn't process the application, the state office does. So the bureaucratic red tape has to slow down the process for about a month. Until then, I have to just deal.
The price you pay for living in a state of red tape like Massachusetts. |
Same in my state - you have to wait about 4 weeks.:(
