Michelle Obama is awesome!
Michelle Obama is awesome! I just finished watching her speech during tonight's Democratic National Convention. :) God bless her!
|
She's as good a speaker as her husband, that's for sure. And those two girls are adorable! You can't buy that kind of reaction from a crowd..
|
She's a good speaker, but it's her heart and passion that makes her shine. Could those kids be any cuter? Little Sasha reminded me SOOOO much of me and my father. He was my hero too. My father died the same year Michelle's father died due to complications from MS.
This is why I get so insulted when I hear people ridicule the woman for not being patriotic, for not being black enough, and/or for not being white. She's from my hometown, and I know all about her. She is definitely not a fake - she's solid gold. :) Caroline Kennedy's speech and the tribute to Senator Kennedy made me cry. You KNOW that man still has passion for the people of this country after watching him speak tonight. |

Dadburnit Kathy~~~~ I missed Teddy's speech too! I thought coverage started at 9pm. DUH!! But, I saw Michelle O's speech and it was so heartfelt and she speaks as if she's talking to you one on one.
I almost felt like making potato salad and having a picnic after hearing her; she made me feel "down home" and relaxed. Good start to the convention ... and I thought Teddy looked really good for being so ill. He was just leaving the podium when I tuned in. |
LOL DM - it made me want to hunt for am old drive-in theater so I could watch all the families sitting on the hoods of their cars watching a movie and eating popcorn together. :D
Didn't you just LOVE the part about Obama taking his wife and new baby home from the hospital for the first time.....driving at a snail's pace and constantly checking the rear view mirror to make sure his family was safe? That's how my dad was. Back in those days, fathers had to wait in the waiting room. Not MY dad - he kept getting caught trying to sneak into the delivery room while mom was having a C-section. I needed to stay an extra 10 days after mom went home. Dad came to see me in the nursery every day. My dad had to travel a lot too. When he was on his way home, I used to sit in the window and count the cars until I saw his car. When he was in town and I was sick, he'd rush home from work to place cold rags on my forehead. |
You can find all of the speaches on the CSPAN website.
|
I kind of wish Michelle was running...she's so intelligent, and so pragmatic.
I heard part of Hillary's speech on the radio last night...it was one of the best speeches she's ever made. It's so wonderful to see such talented women...some day, our day will come! |
I don't know about you guys but I get chills listening to Barack and Michelle. They make me feel like something big is about to happen and it's good.
I also loved Hillary's speech and thought she did a very good job. I'll be catching Teddy's and Bill's speech later on CNN. |
bias
I am very receptive to what is being offered at the Democratic Convention. I am in sync with where I stand on most of the issues.
Having the luxury of different channels, I ended up listening to the BBC (British Broadcasting Company to hear the commentary from across the ocean. CNN made me crazy last night, I channel surf trying to hear some from all stations. Did anyone notice that Fox Network did not even broadcast? Why was that when all the main channels had it on? Does anyone know? I wonder how I will feel when I listen to the Republican Convention? I missed Janet Napolitano's speech. Thanks Vic for a reference. I am going to listen right now. I heard she was REALLY good. |
I just watched Hillary move for Obama to be selected as the nominee for president of the United States. That was amazing. Not sure anyone could have watched that without being moved.

As a person with strong military ties and as a long time Republican, I can say with pride that only one of those affiliations remain with me: military ties. I am an Independent now, but will vote for whoever is best for our country,..., and that does not bode well for the GOP. Every morning, and I do mean every morning, I chat will military personnel over a cup of coffee. What I have seen over the past eight years has been amazing. Their views have shifted so dramatically that even they laugh about how they have have changed. The Marines that have been In-Country tell me that they feel like cannon fodder, and that really angers them. The Soldiers are disgusted that they are not being deployed to Kabul, but rather Tal Afar...again. The Airmen are nausiated by the fact that their mission in general has switched from transporting equipment to transporting casualties at a high rate. The few National Gaurd personnel that I see are all sick of doing a job for which they have no real training. AND YET they ALL still do thier jobs as professionals because they do not want to see LA, Houston, Miami or Philadelphia turn into Mosul. There is a brotherhood here that most people do not comprehend, but as one of the naval officers pointed out today, it is a brotherhood centered on group protection and insulation from harm. Only the "greenhorns" out of bootcamp are still gung ho about what is happening, as they feel invincable. Yet slowly, they are learning by listening. Major Janet Campbell said it best this morning: "We are serving at the request of the PODUS, which is our duty. There is no other option." By the way, Jan flies a C-17. -Vic |
Vic,
I need to go to CSPAN as you suggested to get Kennedy's and Hillary's speeches since I missed them both. |
just a gentle reminder to PLEASE limit politics here.
this thread started as a positive appreciation of Mrs Obama for a good speech but is now taking more of a political turn which just gets feathers ruffled and really isnt in keeping with our guidelines http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1293 Quote:

I watched last night when Biden spoke. Michelle was really crying over his life story. I don't think I have ever seen a potential first lady show her emotions like that. I was touched.

((Vic))
Please know you and your friends are LOVED. You may be a G.I. Joe, but you have NEVER been a toy soldier in my eyes. A Joe's gotta do what a Joe's gotta do - wherever his feet are planted. I prayed my heart out for you all during Vietnam. I've been praying all along for your healing. I'm praying my heart out for your friends too. Only God himself can make me turn my back on you. Even then, He'll have to take me kicking and screaming - and he BETTER have a good excuse for forcing me to turn my back on you, your friends, my brother and my son. :grouphug: |
