I will be receiving $1,212.00 every 2nd Tuesday and not up for review until 12/13/09. I guess my hard work and good wages from the past paid off. Hubby and I are planning a 7 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on 10/29/06. I'm So Excited! Hugs To Ya! Claudia:) |
Congrats, Claudia!
(Could you use a personal cabin boy on your cruise? ) |
Congratulations, Claudia :).

:o)
Congratulations!!:D
I'm STILL fighting for disability after 5 1/2 YEARS :( . I just called my attorneys office last week and they said its still in the appeals procces in the supreme court I THINK.. I've been thru the two court hearing denials. We are appealing the second judges denial. I've gotten even worse medically since then. Have a great cruise. :D IF/when I win.. I NEED the money to get me a handicap equipped van for my powerchair!!! Gina Marie |

Yes, perserverance pays off. It is a shame that the system, when it works, takes too long! I have wondered sometimes if the aspect that you receive it retroactively adds to some worker's nonchalance?
Cruises are not easy, imo, so unless you are accustomed to them, you might wish to reconsider? But glad to hear you've received the benefits! JD |
SSD and Cruise
I don't care if SSD knows I'm going on a cruise. Before I came disabled I went on 5 cruises.
I intend to take my rollator which is a walker with 4 wheels, hand brakes and a seat. As far as excursions, we are taking a bus at St. Thomas and St. Marteen for sightseeing. I know my limitations and they stop me from going on a cataraman for a excursion and snorkling...just can't do or going on a sail boat because I can't get into them. I'm not deleting this post. After being injured from a wreck in 3/05, I deserve this cruise. I've had 2 cervical fusions and a lumbar fusion and am facing another cervical and lumbar fusion. Hugs To Ya! Claudia:) |
Claudia,
I hope you know, Linda wasn't being critical of you; it's like so many have scavengers trolling the Net looking for morsels to bash against someone. I thought as she did and ... she was just more brave and open and risked sharing so that you would not be adversely affected. Good for her! and Super for you! I've not encountered as you and Linda have, and I'm just gettin' sorta in the groove of traveling. It was most difficult my first trek this Summer (by train) and I'm about a 1.5 weeks away from my last for this season. I gotta say: I am going to miss this season when it's over. It's the first I've travelled "disabled" and the most I've travelled. But... geeze, it's been a blast! So, go, have a fantastic time. And, also know, what's shared here has been in caring :). That's it! :D Ohhhh, bring back photos to share with us! |

Bobbi and Linda
I wasn't upset with Linda's post. I'm not that type of person who takes comments that mean well to me as criticism. And yes, Linda, you are probably right that SSD people read these posts. "I mebbe disabled but I'm not dead":D I've got a male friend who has COPD and heart problems who is on disability and rides a motorcycle with a handicapped license plate. He is the one that gave me the above quote. I will be using a wheelchair at the airports and we are booked for bus tours at St. Thomas and St. Marteen. My Neurosurgeon is also giving me an Epidural Steriod Injection at C7-T1 (cervical) and L3-L4 (lumbar) on the 10/20 hoping to ease some of my nerve pain and mebbe put me in a 'comfort zone' for the cruise. He said he doesn't normally give one in the cervical and lumbar area at the same time, but he is hoping it will not only help me for the cruise but bide me some time before doing fusions there. Nope, not me to get into tiffs LOL! Enuff of them already on this message board. Hugs To Ya! Claudia:) |
:)
Claudia, it sounds like your neurosurgeon is definitely helping you prep. for your venture :D. If the cruise people (what do you call the people who run the ship? hmmm) have transporter chairs on-board, I hope you'll consider that. Keep as much strength and stamina for enjoying your trip as pain-free as might be possible . I'm sure you know that, though, but a gentle reminder... well, that can't hurt, huh :). I take my chair most everywhere - afraid that one won't be available (due to demand) when I go out, though it would make going out much easier if more chairs or even more places provided DME for customers' use. I've not been on a cruise, so I'm looking forward to your trip. You're gonna have to give us the scoop when you return from it! |
CONGRATS TO YA!!!! Honey I would cruise the world if I could. Thats money you earned and deserved. If people knew what h--- we go through just living day to day, not to mention what SS puts us through they would also say
YOU GO GIRL!!!! |
Don't forget to contact your local Property Appraisal District. I just found out I get an additional $25,000 exemption off my appraisal price. That's a pretty significant chunk of change. I had no idea it was that much. But I do understand that it varies county to county, state to state, so that doesn't mean your exemption would be as high as mine.
Good luck, Linda |
Linda
Thanks for the reminder. I remember filling out that form last year as we bought a new home in 10/04 and recall a box to check for disability. Will be calling them in the morning.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Hugs To Ya! Claudia:) |
Wow Claudia,Great News. Now enjoy yourself a bit.Remember all, once you have been found to be disabled under the strict SS guide lines,it is up to SSA to prove beyond all the medical documentation that you have recovered to a point that you can gain significant gainful employment. There have been people that won marathons ,yet their disability did not prevent them from doing so. However their disability prevents them from SGA.It's not up to me,or anyone else to dispute the disablee's condition. That was already proven in the process of becoming eligible for SSDI.Lets all too remember those whom we have all known at one time or another that died from disease's ,yet in the beginning stages, their quality of life seemed to be just fine. The SS administration has been around he block enough to know peope like Claudia have the ability to enjoy some of life's pleasures dispite their ailments.Don't live a life of paranoia, and dont let opinions of others cause you to question whether or not you should enjoy a bit of quality of life while you are able.I did not reply to dispute nor attack anyone.Just giving a bit of information passed in to me during my fight for workers compensation and now my battle with SSDI. Go Claudia

I totally agree with backless ~~ congrads to you & enjoy!! My younger sister passed away a year ago this past Aug. from 3 kinds of cancer. She was 42 & worked all her life up until she got sick. 2 years ago on her birthday she found out about her cancers & started her battle against it AND SSD. Well as (almost) always; she was denied & then apealed it & then finally won. 5 months later she received her backpay; wasn't much; but too sick to even enjoyed it. She did buy one of those expensive foam matterises; hopeing to sleep better. But; she never got released from the hospital to even try it.
Enjoy yourself as much as possible & hopefully it will be a painfree & enjoyable time for you & yours. |
