Reminder RE: Visitor Messages
Visitor Messages can be read by any member of NeuroTalk. Not just people on your friends list.
Please be safe and not post personal information on your own or other Visitor Messages. (email addy, home address, phone number, real name...) |
just to clarify for some who seem confused on this
that this refers to Visitor Messages left on profiles this is *not* the private messages (PMs) which only you can see |
Now your going to make me go look at what I have on my profile messages. lol
|
LOL, Sandy, I should go post one fast. :D
Part of the confusion is people thinking they are set up like private myspace's. Where only your friends can reply or see your "page". We tend to not realize that it says Public Profile. I just want the members to be safe. :grouphug: BTW, you can set your options to not allow Visitor Messages. You can also delete them after you read them. |
I'm glad you mentioned that we CAN delete them. I didn't realize that. Not that anybody ever posted anything I didn't want the world to see, but it's good to know you can do that. Thanks.
|
And of course I am once again in the center of the reason for the post, LMAO!
:yikes: :thud: |
So, it was a mistake to post my credit card #s with the little security code dealies? Should I delete my DNA sample then too?

Amn ... Too late! :D

I was wondering why I didn't have to pay for pizza last night:pizza: - the cashier said .. thanks, but I've got friends that are SO generous picking up the tab for everyone!! :yahoo:
Oh, AMN ... thanks - it brings a tear to my eye!!!:Poke: |
So Vonn,
I guess we shouldn't have had that conversation, eh? :lookaround: Can we go back and erase? |

Members are are responsible for managing their profile visitor messages. Deleting after you read is an easy way or after a page is full.:) {many pages of messages is very time consuming to delete :(} Users can choose to turn off visitor messages if they don't want them: Link to UserCP- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/pr...do=editoptions Under Visitor Messaging |

I couldn't sleep. I came back here to figure out the Visitor message system. I did some searches and came up with this old thread. I was away too long. I didn't really understand how it all works.
Does anyone else think it's a really important feature to highlight somewhere in the FAQ? Did I miss something when I returned? I did read the FAQ, but I either missed it or didn't understand it. New visitors or (like me) returning members might appreciate some guidance Thanks for all you do. Edited to add: FAQ contains too much typed information. It needs to be compressed. |

I believe that the visitor function is part of a recent upgrade, and that the FAQs were made before then. Many of us were confused by the "friends" and visitor messages. I think the visitor messages should be for social interaction. When someone asks me personal or professional stuff, I PM them back and delete theirs. Also when that last upgrade was done, our PM box was enlarged. I don't know if you noticed that? it is 1000 now. (which is very good for me ;). ) |
Hi lara
yes when we upgraded the vBulletin system it came with the profile pages that are more in sync with the social network type pages. Visitor messages are intended to be social interaction rather than "private" messaging or personal stuff...that should still be done in the private message feature. Anyone logged in to NeuroTalk can see another member's profile but they are not accessible to unlogged guests or to the search engine bots if you dont wish to receive any visitor messages you can turn it off in your user CP |
ps
the lengthy FAQ are written by vBulletin not us ;) |
Thanks very much mrsD and Chemar.
Silly me. Of course the FAQ is a vB thing. I didn't think of that. I had just been trying to figure it all out since I came back but couldn't find any info anywhere that explained it all. No dramas. Thanks for replies. :) |
