Pain in Feet
Is pain in the feet a symptom for TOS. Recently I started having these pains and would like to know if it is a symptom of TOS or possibly something else.
Thanks. |
hi,
i posted a thread a while ago about foot numbness - a lot of the guys responded and it seems that quite a few of us have foot numbness, it seems quite a bit coincidence that we all have tos too.... dont think we touched on foot pain - just on off numbness... |
Hi everyone..
I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Planter Faciaitis .. the joint on the bottom of the foot was frozen( hurt alot !) and this is all of a sudden too. I never had foot problems and all of a sudden I am being fitted for Orthonics ?? !! It's depressing.. I think it has alot to do with the TOS and RSD.I had to see a Podiatrist.. ( why do Dr's not like them ?) Hang in there.. lots of hugs... Dolfinz |
Finz- I had the same dx about 2-3 weeks ago. It came out of nowhere all of a sudden too. I haven't gone to a podiatrist yet, but I have been doing streches for it. Walking just hurts now!
|
Hey Dabbo hope things are well with you !!!
Isn't it weird ???? Ya, it just came out of nowhere ! I never had any problems with my feet until now ! I guess I have to be fitted for Orthonics ? Foot inserts. Wow this disease stinks ! I hope you feel better dabbo.. I use a frozen water bottle and roll my foot as much as I can if the pain is to bad ! Take it easy MF..... Dolfinz |
Finz- I keep forgetting to freeze a bottle of water. I should probably do that now! Thats one of the things the doc suggested- he said it helps stretch the foot and the ice feels good...all at once! When do you get your orthotics? I hope they help.
have a good week MF :D  |
Hi Dabbo, Sunny, And Tracey.. Hope you all are doing o.k. ??!!
Tracey.. Have you seen a Dr' yet about the feet ? Dabbo... I found that the frozen bottle worked great for me ! I also use a small rubber ball first thing in the morning when I get out of bed.. roll the ball for a minute or two and that loosens up the muscles... Well I had to have my Dr. write a letter sating that it was a life and safety issue that I see a podiatrist.... and my PC wrote it and sent it to me and I brought the letter up today( to the Podiatrist .. too many Dr's !). She said that some time this week the lab will cast my feet, then I guess they will make the arch supports from that ! The foot is doing a little better since he put sticky tabs in my inserts to help keep the arch up. It is quite painful huh ?? Dabbo are you going to see someone ?? I think you should... Well I am off to bed.. I started on a new Pain Med and it makes me super sleepy !! Hang in there MF and let me know how things go .... Tracey and Sunny I hope you guys are doing o.k...... Hugs to everyone  Dolfinz |
I doubt any doctor would say foot pain and numbness is attributed to TOS.
However, I think (for what ever its worth) that when you have TOS it messes up your entire bodies 'balance', feet go numb, head hurts, whatever... Since I have vascular TOS I believe the entire right side of my body is a little 'off kilter'. For example, even though my vains in the shoulder and upper arm are clearly negitively effected by TOS, nobody can explain why the veins in my right leg are distended as well. Probably just vericose veins starting, or its just one of those things... |
Hi everybody !
I was just wondering how everyone is doing with the feet problems ????? Dabbo.. I got fitted for Orthotics on Tuesday.. It was just putting your feet into foam blocks and the guy pushes down and it makes and impression.. a couple weeks and the inserts will be ready .. The foot is a little better too. Hope everyone is getting along and hugs for a pain free weekend. Dolfinz |
Hello:
I just wanted to elaborate on my original post. I guess it is more numbness than pain. It's more in my right foot and sometimes spreads up my right shin. My right side is more affected by TOS than my left, so maybe something is just out of whack with the right side of my body. It's interesting to see that other people also have numbness in their feet. |

oooo.....i posted on here a while ago about veins on the back of my leg (the side which i have probs with my foot) are starting to become more apparent and looking a little bit like varicose veins.....coincidence, or tos?..... |

Hope your podatrist can make your foot situation at least bareable for you. x |
Hey finz.... I haven't been to another doc yet. I should go (I know...) The stretches have helped some, but if it doesn't get better then i'll have to find a podiatrist. How long before you get your orthotics?

In my second year, I developed sever pinsandneedles pain feeling. I was luck to have a doc who could put together the pieces adn said it'sabout TOS. But remember theythinkI may have an Immunological disease - notyet named - that is causing the biggest prolem. Now I can't remember your question...I'd better go back to bed! |
My keyboard died last night, so with new batteries I now am back...sorry about how bad that post looks!

Try Fish Oil Pills
Quote:
I was told I had Plantar Faciaitis as well and I found it really difficult to run as a basketball player without having to feel the pain. I was told by a friend of mine, who is pursuing on with his career to be a pharmacist to take Fish Oil pills. So I took his advice because you can buy them at any store, it's not over the counter, and after weeks of taking the pill and stretching the bottom of my feet I no longer felt the pain. Fish Oil does do wonders! |
11 years strong, and it's moved down on me, too -- I believe I'm in the plantar fasciaitis category as well. sorry if i spelled that wrong. but, yah, my feet get really painful every now and then, and I know that's what it is. Maybe it's connected to all of this somehow, because it seems like it's happening to a lot of us.

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I have a numbing in my left leg when I stand or walk for any longer than 10 min. My feet swell also.
I had plantar fasciaitis a few years ago and found the stretching took care of that problem. I get alot of cramping in my feet at night. |
Hi everyone !!
Sorry for not writing sooner , but was on a trip..... Well, there are some updates on my feet ! I did get the Orthotics on Sept.. 23.. At first my feet hurt for a bit, but they felt alot studier and and supported. I wore them for the entire trip ( 10days) and when I got back, I saw the Podiatrist and he modified them again because my arch wasn't up against the insert as much as he would of liked it . So I am now getting used to a higher arch. My Tarsal Tunnel( the joint on the bottom of your foot) keeps freezing up tho and that hurts ! Especially if I walk barefoot... and the turning in on both ankles seems to be getting better also. Whew ! That's alot of stuff going there down there !! I would suggest Dabbo if you can see a foot doctor , maybe it will help... I too take Fish Oil and do the stretching, but I think because I have Tarsal Tunnel and the Pronated ankles that I need a little more than that ! I hope everyone is doing o.k..... I hope everyone has a great weekend.. Hugs to everyone! Dolfinz |
fish oil omega 3-6-9
Hi just wanted to say about the fish oil or your omega fatty acids.....they are a very potent anti-inflammatory. I just started taking some with my celebrex. they work well together. I also read a study that says that celebrex helps to stop the pain cycle by suppressing the messages sent through your spinal cord to your brain about the pain. So both meds the oil and celebrex together will hopefully help out with my pain....I am one giant experiment......
can't say much about foot pain except I am sorry to those who have to endure that as well as tos!!!! love and hugs, Vic |
Ditto's to that theory. TOS messes up my entire Rt. Side

pain in feet and surgery update
Very interesting..... thank you to all who responded.
Since I started this post, I decided to visit Dr. Richard Sanders in Denver. I wasn't able to work and was unable to even get a diagnosis in Orlando. Dr. Sanders gave me a very thorough examination. Since my right side was more affected than my left side, he gave me a scalene block and also a pec minor block. I felt 50% better with the pec minor block and 100% better with the scalene block. It was amazing. All of the pain and tightness that I had in the shoulder, collar bone, and neck area was temporarilly gone. I did; however, have a bad reaction when the block wore off. It was as if my body went into some sort of shock. I started shaking uncontrollably. Fortunately, it was temporary and only lasted about 5 minutes. Even though I had 100% relief with the scalene block, I opted to have the pec minor release surgery. I was terrified of the larger surgery. The pec minor release surgery is orthoscopic with no overnight stay in the hospital and virtually no risk. The morning of my surgery I was very nervous. My surgery was pushed back several hours, and I could do nothing by lay in the hospital bed and wait. I had a lot of pain in both ribs (I've read a few other people have this as a symptom as well). The rib pain seemed to only appear when lying down and riding for long periods in a car. The nurse came in with some pain killer before the surgery, and right before they took me in , they gave me something to calm the nerves. I wish I would have had that medication hours before, because it worked. I awoke from the surgery extremely nauseaus. The pain from the incision and muscle cut was minor. I still had pain in the ribs that was worse. Although, I have to say that is the last time I had pain in my ribs. Recovery was not too difficult. It was difficult to sleep for approximately 3 weeks, and there was minor to moderate pain upon certain movements. The pain presurgery from my symptoms was far worse than the post surgery discomfort. After finding work again 4 weeks after surgery, unfortunately, the pain in my neck, collarbone, jaw, and upperback returned. Not only did it return, it became as bad on the left side as it is on the right side. The pain in my forearms, and hands was less, so I am now able to work. I also don't have as much chest pain, and have no pain under the armpit and in the ribs. But as soon as I'm off work, I go home and lay on a heating pad. Interestingly, the pain in my feet returned almost immediately after my symptoms returned. So I think they have to be related somehow. After having the scalene block and seeing the results, I've decided to go back for the scalene surgery. Dr. Sanders had advised me that up to 50% of patients choose to follow up, so I guess I fall into that category. I wish I had opted for the scalene surgery while I was in Denver the first time, but I had hoped the pec minor release would be enough. I've suffered from TOS for roughly 8 years and am looking forward to getting some relief. After the surgery and hopefully recovered, I would like to somehow raise awareness on TOS and RSI. My TOS is the result of a RSI injury. I am a hardcore programmer that didn't want to stop for breaks. If anyone has any suggestions, I am open. It was so disappointing to see dr. after dr. with no diagnosis.... and no hope. The more awareness that can be raised, the less people will suffer.... hopefully. |
Thank You for that Sunnydee.. it is very insightful for those of us that have not had to go that route yet... I hope that you find comfort soon and I am in agreeance with you.. I was a very active young woman at one point.. and since the injury to my shoulder and TOS I have had to change my life dramatically..
and fight for the fact that I am sick and disabled.. I would love to help in any way that I can on getting the word out there... This board is a life saver... Thank you Dr. Woodall for your insight. I hope Dr. Sander's can give you some relief as well. It's amazing how this afflicts so many people ! |
