Hurricane Gustav & Now IKE!!!

It's looking like Hurricane Gustav is heading right for Louisiana. :(

Do we have any members here in that area? Looks like Mississippi and Texas will be in the mix, too. I know we have several members in Texas and a few in Mississippi.

Please ya'll.....be careful. Take precautions or better yet just leave (if you can) until it's over. It's hard to believe that it's been three years since Katrina. I'm hoping the memories of that will cause people to be overly prepared (if there is such a thing ).

I'm praying that this one takes a turn and remains out at sea but it's not looking that way. Everyone in it's path are in my prayers. :grouphug:

MelodyL 08-30-2008 09:14 AM

I watched it on the tv last night.

I can't believe that after 3 years, THEY ARE GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS AGAIN!!!

Those poor people.

They lost their homes 3 years ago, some of them came back and rebuilt, and now they are in danger AGAIN??

Life stinks. And so does the weather.

I do not understand this at all.

Melody

weegot5kiz 08-30-2008 11:51 AM

I agree it stinks that its so soon, just makes me wonder if perhaps, this area is destined to be under water, by all laws of nature it should be, its anywhere from 8 to 15 feet below sea level and is sinking each year, unless they build some sort of barrier like they have in Holland I see no escape from the constant water issues

I hope everyone in its path is safe and pays attention, don't take any chances its not worth it, be safe everyone down that way

SandyC 08-30-2008 12:07 PM

The news today said it may hit west of New Orleans which is mostly inhabited. Let's pray it goes west and doesn't cause the devastation it did three years ago.

KajunButterfly 08-30-2008 12:11 PM

Hi all and we need all your prayers. I live just a few miles north of New Orleans and mandantory evacuation has begun. Some poor people are still living in FEMA mobile homes since Katrina. Buses and train are already boarding people to get them to safety. Your right weegot...N.0. is around 10-15 feet below sea level. During Katrina, the Levee around the city broke and thats why so much flooding. I just pray that everyone will evacuate....some refuse to leave their homes. Thanks in advance for all your support and prayers.

weegot5kiz 08-30-2008 12:15 PM

you be careful Pep dont hesitate too long, I know I would be tempted to wait a day or two to see if its path changes, but it sure looks like it heading towards you

KajunButterfly 08-30-2008 12:15 PM

Sandy, yes they are saying that it may move a little west of us, but that is not good news,,,the east side of a hurricane is the worst side...more rain and more tornados spawned from the hurricane...all we can do is pray and stay prepared.

SandyC 08-30-2008 12:28 PM

I didn't know that LaPepper. Please be safe and we'll keep praying for all of you.

Chemar 08-30-2008 01:10 PM

we are already feeling effects of the outer bands here as it approaches western Cuba and have really nasty thunderstorms with heavy squalls of rain...........

my thoughts and prayers are with all along the gulf coast who may be impacted. PLEASE rather leave and be safe:grouphug:

tovaxin_lab_rat 08-30-2008 01:17 PM

My sister and her team have already been put on alert. She told them she was going on a trip to Wales with me but would be back on the 17th for the second wave to assist. She is a Team Coordinator for FEMA/DMORT.

She spent 6 months in NO after Katrina.

I wish you all well and hope the storm fizzles.

weegot5kiz 08-30-2008 01:29 PM

yeah Chemar I heard that just now too, Florida is already feeling this storm be careful everyone in its path and the aftermath (sp?) of it breaking up

kehan 08-30-2008 02:33 PM

SandyC 08-30-2008 03:13 PM

Oh no, a cat 5 is worse than Katrina. Seriously, anyone near the path leave now. Better to be safe than sorry. Praying for everyone.

It started out as a CAT 5 and by the time it hit land it downgraded to a 3.

Let's hope the same thing happens to this one. A cat3 is bad enough. My cousin lives in southern Mississippi and had to evacuate during Katrina. I haven't heard if she'll have to evacuate for this one yet. :(

They haven't ordered mandatory evacuation yet. It's voluntary at this point but they are moving hospital patients and nursing homes, etc.

I have been on the phone with my sister 3 or 4 times worried that she is going to have to cancel her vacation. She assures me she won't.

DM 08-30-2008 03:44 PM

Just chiming in and hoping all of our members in the path of this storm stay safe and dry. Take care everyone.

Koala77 08-30-2008 06:32 PM

In Jamaica, Gustav may have killed 11 people, and left millions in damage. Earlier this week, Gustav killed 59 people on Haiti, and 8 in the Dominican Republic.

prayers going out to the families of the dead, and to all the people wherever Gustav next makes landfall... in the Caymans, and in Cuba.

hoping all are staying safe...

Kitty 09-01-2008 05:10 AM

Just got up a bit ago and turned on the news. Seems a family of 6 was traveling into GA to escape the weather in Louisiana and crashed along I-20 (they think the driver fell asleep at the wheel) and killed everyone except one lady and one man. :( I cannot help but question how much are some expected to endure.... I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better. God bless those people in the path of this monster storm.

soxmom 09-01-2008 09:45 AM

praying for you all in the storms path.:hug::hug:

Just watching CNN, Anderson Cooper's talking to a reporter who's in the 9th ward, he says a levee is being topped by water, and that there's cracks in the bottom of it...water's seeping through the cracks. Water's up to stop signs in the 9th ward, he said. Police have fled the area...:grouphug:...

Please pray for New Orleans.

sugarboo 09-01-2008 11:21 AM

Reports from my friend in Franklin, LA.

He says he has his boat ready and will probably be the first to float down mainstreet. I told him to get a picture. He's being funny of course in a bad situation. He has his little dog, his generator and his boat ready.

Prayers for him and all

watsonsh 09-01-2008 12:00 PM

Prayers to all affected by the storms. :grouphug:

KajunButterfly 09-05-2008 12:04 AM

Hi everyone! Just got power restored at my house. half of my roof is gone, my front porch was torn from the foundation and thrown in the back yard. don't really know where my carport is! But all my family is safe, thank God! Several Parishes had more damage from Gustav than from Katrina. Lots of trees down on houses and power lines..some parishes may not get power for several weeks....lots of broken power poles. Power company workers from several states have come to help, so we thank them. So far 9 deaths to gustav. Thanks to all of you great people for prayers and support!

Darlene 09-05-2008 01:20 AM

Sorry to hear of all the damage you recieved, but as you said your family are all ok, and that is good news to hear. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God be with you all.

Darlene

Chemar 09-05-2008 07:56 AM

oh LaPepper:hug: so sorry to hear of the damage but thankful you are all safe

I hope insurance/FEMA will cover the damage for you

We are dealing with outer bands of Hurricane Hannah today as it skirts up Florida east coast.....many places there are still damaged/flooded with major beach erosion from Fay so Hannah sure is not welcome

and now we have Ike taking aim for Florida and they are saying it is already cat4:eek::(

KajunButterfly 09-05-2008 08:10 AM

DAY1 09-05-2008 09:37 PM

I for one am glad Gustav is gone.

Arkansas got hit hard. I never really thought of us as having hurricane problems. We were flooded in. 3 ways into our house and all were flooded.
Roads are horrible.

My husband finally made it out and into town. He thought if he ever made it off our road, then things would be fine. Our town was horrible.

Tree's down everywhere. Of course they were over power lines.
Arkansas sent 200 of the 400 lines men to Louisianna. Then we ended up getting hit hard. I think they total number without power was around 100,000.

They ended up having to get people from other states, heading to LA. to come help us. Then they called our guys back from LA.

I had to laugh this afternoon when I saw Penn Power on our road.

We were lucky here. We lost power the first day for about 6 hours. They came out quickly and fixed it. We had limbs down and several of my neighbors had tree's down.

My inlaws were 2 1/2 days without power.
Ton's of schools were closed.

It will take a while for us to get back to normal around here.
We are not use to those kind of winds.

I feel for those in LA.

DAY

weegot5kiz 09-05-2008 11:43 PM

Hello Day glad you are ok, debs mom had same troubles no power an over night lake out front and in the back and around the side:eek:

anyone heard how Hjmom is doing? well I hope

Darlene 09-06-2008 12:49 AM

DAY,

Glad to hear your family are o.k. It just seems when they come it is follow the leader. I just spoke to my sister today and she said she was ok, she lives on the coast of Mississippi.

Sending prayers and thoughts to you.

Darlene

Chemar 09-06-2008 06:44 PM

Glad you are all safe, Day..... tho losing power is hard:hug:

I just heard the latest forecast track for IKE and it looks like it is pointing back to gulf coast, with Louisiana in the center of the cone again:(

this is so hard...........relief for Florida looking less likely as impact, but so concerned for all who have just been thru this with Gustav

the stress of watching these storms is just horrible nevermind the direct impact they have on health with the air pressure changes they cause and allergens they bring etc

we are seriously considering moving outa the tropics permanently. 17 years of this heat humidity and hurricanes has been enuff!

my prayers are lifted for all of us who live in the hurricane zone and especially for those who may have to evacuate....again:grouphug:
