No Fair! My newspaper is lowdown and no good!
They are putting pics of the puppies in the classified ads! How dare they!
How are ya supposed to resist now? :p |
i sure hope they dont start doing that here, deb and sean been bugging me for a dog, I told them no, i can not have them seeing these type of ads, probably a good thing if I dont see these pics too:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
I have enough trouble when I see that abused dog thing on tv, that first dog they used to tug at your heart strings, they said the amount of people wanting that one dog was unbelievable, either I read or deb heard about it over a thousand inquiries into that dog in the first 24 hours after that commercial was posted on tv so what dog are you getting lol |

I want them ALL lol. |
AWW~ the poor poochies need a home Cathy!! You already have your own zoo!!!
I agree, Frank when the commercial comes on w/Sarah McLaughlin (sp) singing in the background and showing all those poochies in cages, I flip the channel. It makes me so sad. I have 2 of my own, but if I saw pics of homeless pups in the paper, I'd probably have more. |
Sounds like I'm not the only one who has problems resisting. We walk into a pet store that happens to have dogs or cats, and I want to take them all home.
But I've learned I only have enough attention (and patience, LOL) for two fur babies at the moment. :) |
I have to admit I would be taking them all too.
I have a cat now that I bought because he was all alone in the cage at the pet store. He has a bad attitude but, I love him to death. We have had him over a year now. He loves on ya and cuddles just enough to keep on the good side of mom. |

I have 4 cats and 1 dog..Does this tell you anything? :o
There's a giant "S" on my forehead (stands for "Sucker") that only animal ~ and a few people ~ can see.. |
5 cats, 1 dog and DH brought home pictures of kittens born on a construction site. Betweebnme and DD, looked like a 6th was coming.
Thank goodness we realized 5 is too many and kittens 1 hour away. I think 1 more would put me over the edge and make me a cat lady!!! |
I understand Brain! Our local public access channel on cable shows a daily program from "The Ark".. a local lady started a no-kill rescue center for pets years ago and they show the animals.
She tells their stories and how they changed with care at The Ark. She doesn't cage any of the animals except at night. They are so precious to watch them with her. Makes me wanna go get one sometimes! |

Two days ago, my friend's upstair's tenant got her first dog. I sit on that porch every evening and we all chat and laugh. About 6 or 7 of us. Different ages, different sizes, but we all get along just fine. So the gal said "I am getting a dog from the Rescue Shelter, I've been bonding with him for 3 days and tomorrow I pick him up". So the next night there we all were sitting on the porch and up drove Crystal and next to her was her friend with the dog sitting in his lap. We had no idea what kind of dog because she wanted to surprise us. Now the people on the porch ALL have dogs. Little Schitzus or Maltese. And the people down the block have their golden retrievers. So this is a neighborhood filled with doggies. So there we were anticipating the new arrival. And out of the car comes this BIG PIT BULL named Jack. A beautiful brown and white (with the line down the front of his face. One ear was brown and the other was white. He is a pit bull mix, approx 8 months old and they don't know what the full mix is. And I know that pit bulls get a bad rap. But not this pit bull. This HUGE thing jumps out of the car and he's wagging his tail. And you should see what they sent her home with. Toys, food, they neutered him that day (but he didn't have a cone on). He was jumping around and seemed just fine. She brought him over to each one of us. He jumped on me and we were all laughing. He decided to take hold of his leash and that was THAT FOR FIVE MINUTES. He wasn't about to give up that leash. Oh no!!! So we all played with him, she walked him, and then we all went home. But the funny thing was what happened the next day (yesterday). After taking him for his walk, she went to the nail salon place to get her nails and feet done. Do you know that Jack sat on the floor for 2 hours while she got her nails and her feet done. I KNOW KIDS THAT WON'T EVEN STAY STILL FOR THAT LONG. So I went on the porch last night and out comes Jack. He sat in my lap for 20 minutes. He loves getting rubbed and kissed and nuzzled. He tried to jump on the plants on the porch and the landlord laughed and said "there go my plants'. But he really didn't do any harm. And everybody bought their pets to meet Jack. I introduced the pets to each other and I said "now be friends and be nice". The boy dogs were fine. It was the girl dogs who went for his throat. We got hysterical and had to separate them. But ultimately they got along. So now you have all heard about my new friend Jack. Since we are all Italian in my neck of the woods, we call him Giacomo (Jack in Italian). lol Melody |
Well, there you are, Mel...Just more proof that it isn't the breed, it's the owner/caretaker that determines whether a dog is well behaved and well socialized. Kudos to the people who cared for the dog before your friend got him, and to your friend for making sure he's comfortable in all situations. He sounds like a keeper!

Aw Mel! Give Jack a doggy bone for me!
I took my tiny dogs for a walk last week end. We have a bike rally uptown once a year, and it's the best time to socialize them, because everybody is there, plus all the motorcycle noise. My boys were so good, you wouldn't believe it. They're terrific on the leash, I'm so proud. And everybody loves dogs around here. The only other person that brought a dog - and usually, there are a dozen or so dogs other than mine - this year was a guy with a pit pup maybe 9 months old. He was brindle, pretty big, but a nice dog. We were about 10 feet from that dog and my tiny pomeranian growled at the pit bull, so the pit thought he wanted to play and came lunging over. The guy holding the pit's leash said "Sorry!" I said "It wasn't your dog - that was mine, being bad." He said people always give him a dirty look when he walks his dog. I said "The best thing you can do is walk him, and they don't know dogs if they don't know that. He'll like people if he's around them." I told him he was a good looking dog. He seemed surprised, a lady my age with lap dogs admired his pit bull. But I do like some of them. It's not the dog's fault if they're not well behaved. It's the people who raise them that are supposed to train them. That goes if they're chihauhaus or labs or rottys. |
I rescued a pit bull choc lab mix puppy 2 years ago. At first I was not sure if I should do it with the reputation of pits. Not that I was worried but mainly how others would judge. Such as not letting their kids come over because we have a pit, stuff like that.
She is my sweet little baby girl. No aggression at all and such a lover. She sleeps in bed with us at the foot of the bed and follows me everywhere i go. I even found her to be a helper when my balance was off she would actually put her body next to my legs and help me. Oh and the commercial on tv, yes I have teared up watching that so I have to change the channel. Shadows picture is on my page if anyone wants to see her and her buddy Smokey...Sue |
Smokey and Shadow are GORGEOUS doggies Sue!:)
|
They are gorgeous!
Yeah, the commercial... ugh! I'm a sucker though. I can't go past an adoptathon without adult supervision. One time I literally had to call dh to talk me out of bringing a dog home. :p It was a really smelly dog too. I don't know why I wanted it, it was SO stinky and ugly lol. I think I felt sorry for it. |

One of the dogs I have now, all his feet are different sizes. If you say, "Show me ya big foot." he will. He'll stretch out his big foot, it's super fluffy, looks like he's wearing a slipper. :p |
