Yikes!! Where is Sis?

weegot5kiz 09-07-2008 12:36 PM

Thanks Sally, I hope the one meteorologist is right. not wishing this on anyone else on purpose, but he had said there were two fronts and depending on how it reacts to these fronts it just might go due west, sorry Mexico but, I get a bad feeling from this one, and if it hits New Orleans, i get a feeling and have had this since early last week, its gonna get even bigger than it is, in the gulfs warm water

I hope everyone pays close mind to this IKE, and hopefully everyone will be ok

They're down in Bonita. They have one of those bullet-proof hurricane houses so they'll be okay, just don't like having their social life interrupted.

tovaxin_lab_rat 09-07-2008 03:33 PM

Thanks for that link Sally! Thought we might have to deal with one or the other of the storms trying to get out of Atlanta Tues night!

SallyC 09-08-2008 12:47 PM

I guess it did a number in Cuba!!! Praying for People..

Looks like the monster is dead set on Houston. Tom, how are things at NASA..

Frank, I hope you're right, I hope it keeps going west, but it doesn't look like it..

:grouphug:

freeinhou 09-08-2008 06:28 PM

Well - We're going to level 4 in the morning if nothing dramatically changes overnight, then level 3 whenever. Shuttles Endeavor and Atlantis are on the pads at Kennedy for, oh, yeah. I forgot to update y'all. STS-125 launch slipped to Oct 10. STS-126 launch slipped to Nov 12. Endeavor goes to Hubble on 10/10. Atlantis is called STS-400 = rescue thing is something goes wrong with Atlantis (no space station to take shelter in - they'll be at the telescope).

Level 4 = staging sandbags and sealing tunnel hatches. Level 3 = get ready to shut down mission control. Level 2 = shut down mission contol and transfer space station ops to Moscow. Level 1 = I got a big problem... Restoring the mission control power plant is probably the biggest one...

Tom

MommaD 09-08-2008 10:43 PM

Yep, I will be heading to the Hill Country on Wed. Hubby has to stay here (he is a police officer) and will be working 12 hr shifts if Ike comes for a visit in Houston.........

Hope everyone on the Texas/LA coast is prepared & prayers to everyone!

SallyC 09-09-2008 11:01 AM

Yeaaaaaa, it looks like Ike veered westerly and may miss Houston, although, it may still be windy and raining there. They have the eye pointed toward Brownsville and maybe even Mexico.

We can only hope but, if it keeps going Westerly, the eye may miss the USA..

KajunButterfly 09-09-2008 01:28 PM

Whew! Don't wish it on anyone else but we've had enough here already! Lots of folks here still have no power. Please be safe everyone in it's path.

weegot5kiz 09-09-2008 02:55 PM

keep fingers crossed folks it has downgraded to a cat 1

thank you and sorry cuba, it ran along the whole island and it slowed it down, and now they say if it keeps moving as fast as it is it shouldnt be able to rebuild, fingers crossed folks

weegot5kiz 09-09-2008 07:38 PM

bummer they just said its not gonna go the way they were hoping its slowed down and in one hour has already reorganized itself, saying cat 3 maybe, everyone in Texas and Louisianan, hang on again, they did say Josephine dissipated to nothing

SallyC 09-09-2008 08:51 PM

Well, CARP!!! I wish IKE would make up it's pea pickin mind.

I guess we'll have to wait and just hope and pray that it dissipates, before it reaches land..:smileypray:

SallyC 09-10-2008 08:24 PM

It looks like they've got a cat3, IKE, heading right for Houston again.. They have evacuations going on, all along the coast of Texas now.

Houston, calling Houston..and all points in between:eek:

suzyqz_2007 09-10-2008 11:23 PM

We live inland from Galveston about 55 miles http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...~0~S&encType=1 I could walk to this mall (if I really wanted to and could lol) just thought this was best way to explain where I am in accordance to Galveston. City officials are supposed to have a press conference in the morning so we'll see what happens then.

:grouphug:

KajunButterfly 09-10-2008 11:34 PM

Suzy, I think you are for enough inland to be safe. Just follow your local officials advice tho.........be safe hun. I am praying for everyone in its path. I feel this will be a strong one.

I'm sure we'll be fine, everything keeps changing so fast and this is my first hurricane so I'm yeah a bit frantic. lol The last I saw maximum sustained winds in our zip code area are expected to be 83mph. Our building is brick and has been here for years, plus we're the middle ground floor unit...gonna clean out the walk in closet just in case I want to hide lol

freeinhou 09-11-2008 04:25 AM

Well, the current track has it going right over our house. Ain't but a thing. This is nothing new to us.

We're closing the Johnson Space Center at noon today. I gotta go place alot of sand bags and stage generators this morning. I get an unexpected 3 day weekend!

Saturday:

UofMich vs Notre Dame
Ohio State vs USC

You know I got alot of gas for the generator...

Tom

KajunButterfly 09-11-2008 08:10 AM

Yes...get gas for generators and stock up on non-perishable food items. Praying for ya'll.

Vonn07 09-11-2008 11:56 AM

Tom ... the pic that you shared with us was rather 'appalling' :yikes: (spilled Lite beer) ... please please - sandbag, hardhat, rubber stoppers should help save your refreshment from the next storm ...

Look out IKE ... Tom's 'on-guard' ... you won't get away with it!!

freeinhou 09-11-2008 04:53 PM

DAY1 09-11-2008 06:09 PM

Ok, I found you guys. lol I posted in the Social forum.

You in Houston are more brave than I.
I'm dreading the rain coming to us after. Gustav was scary. Winds were horrible. I cannot imagine how bad it would be right there at it.

lol you would just be catching a glimpse of my tail lights. I'd be sooooo gone.

I'm waiting to hear from our Houston family members. Most of my husbands extended family lives in Houston.

You guys take care. This thing is giving me the willies and I am not in TX.

DAY

It looks like Ike will travel from Houston right up to Dallas, Monkey..Watch out..

SallyC 09-12-2008 10:44 AM

I watched the weather channel awhile this morning and they are scaring me... They're calling Ike a very dangerous killer storm.

The waves are, already, pouring over the sea walls and covering the streets, in Galveston and other Texas and Mississippi/Louisiana/Alabama, coastal areas.

They are shocked that so many people, about half, of the coastal towns, are staying put..:( EGADS!!! I would be so far inland by now, I'd be in New Mexico..:D

Please, my Friends, evaculate. If it peters out, then call me an idiot but in the meantime, be safe. :grouphug:

weegot5kiz 09-12-2008 10:53 AM

Sal this thing is still a good 10 - 12 hrs out to sea and there are towns all ready under water,, everyone down there be safe, they just showed why you dont wait to get out, 3 ways out of dodge ferry bridge or a highway, well now all they have is highway and like I said storm is still 12 hrs away and the highway is getting filled with last minute evacuees, not trying to slam anyone but what part of get out of dodge dont folks down there get, I understand you love your home but it is mere wood glass and metal it can be replace, just be careful folks:hug:

Vonn07 09-12-2008 11:27 AM

just heard that IKE is stronger and wider than Katrina ever was ... and only 50% of Galveston have evacuated .. and the surge is already up to mailboxes!

Yeah. Kind of.

I have a headache. And I mashed my finger making ice. We're in the Brazos River watershed. Maybe Ike'll move about 10 miles...

Tom
