((Sandy C and Jim))

Sandy, I'm so sorry you guys have been sick. Have you already taken Jim back to the hospital? Keeping you guys in my prayers. Don't know what we'd do without your BB10 comments from you and Jim. :winky:

FinLady 09-07-2008 07:01 PM

Sandy, You guys know I'm praying for you both.:hug: Hope Jim feels like himself soon.

Vonn07 09-07-2008 07:10 PM

prayers for healing and strength ... you guys are wonderful!!

SandyC 09-07-2008 07:34 PM

Thanks Doody and everyone. We'll know by tomorrow afternoon whether Jim's test didn't come out as well as they should. Sarah, Jim is on oral antibiotics and they may not be working so he'll need IV antibiotics. We're packed and ready to go. The sooner he gets in the faster he'll get out. The goal is not to be there on the weekend. If he is there after Friday he wont come home until next week. That's how they work at the VA. Ugh

Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts. I'll update as soon as I know something tomorrow.

DM 09-07-2008 07:37 PM

SandyC 09-07-2008 10:20 PM

Cheryl, he's doing OK tonight. He's a little peppy right now since the Bears are winning. Sheesh, I can't make him feel better but football can? Men.

Seriously, he's Ok. He is resigned to the fact that it may be time for his yearly hospital visit. He's really getting tired of all this but remains strong in that he'll fight it. Sometimes I ask myself how he stays so strong and upbeat? I learn so much from him everyday.

Frank, Jim looked at your pic and said "He looks like someone I could really like. :p

 I will update as soon as I hear from the doctor. He's such a good doctor too and refused to admit Jim last Friday knowing how much Jim hates the hospital. He told us Monday is the day to know for sure. I'll get a pic of him for you all. If you ever see that man on the streets, know you've just met one of the good doctors. ;)

He told me Friday one of the reasons he works for the VA is because he doesn't have to deal with insurance bs. He said he became a doctor to heal his patients, not fight insurance companies, his words. :)

Thanks again everyone! I am touched by each and every one of you more than you'll ever know. :grouphug:

Becky21 09-07-2008 10:55 PM

Sandy/GBA/BFF,

Sending all my thoughts and prayers to you and Jim. I hope Jim feels better soon and gets the right antibiotic. It sounds like you have a good doctor. He must get so sick of going into the hospital. I hope you are feeling better also.

Love you bunches,
Becky/GO/BFF:hug::hug::hug:

Hey ya'll just move on down here and bring that Doc with you! I could sure use a good urologist myself right now. Seriously they are building a VA facility/clinic here in Madison sometime in the next 2 years.. with 200,000+ retirees in North AL we need one.

Jim, you will be in my prayers.

Pam

CayoKay 09-08-2008 09:41 AM

we'll be waiting for your update, Sandy-dear!

and praying.

SandyC 09-08-2008 12:22 PM

Ok, so the doctor called and Jim is resistant to all oral antibiotics. BUT, since Jim is not having more symptoms and because he actually feels better the doctor said the bacteria may be colonized and not harming him. The bacteria he has is Ecoli and one other that is now gone, I believe, Enterobacter. This is the one the doctor was most concerned with but now it is gone thanks to Macrobid.

He is going to call us back today with a final decision. He will be talking to home health to see if they would be willing to do home antibiotics since he is not sick enough to be admitted. If he's admitted and home health decides he's not a candidate, he will need to be in the hospital for ten days rather than the three we thought. The doctor and I feel that admitting Jim while he feels better may not be the right answer since he would be exposed to hospital germs and such.

As soon as I hear from the doctor I will be back to update. I am so sorry to all of you that this is back and forth. This is how it goes here at our home. Ups and downs and never knowing what the answer will be. I guess that's why they call these complicated UTI's?

tovaxin_lab_rat 09-08-2008 12:37 PM

Thanks for the update Sandy. Complicated UTIs? Oh come on! No such thing! J/K! I hope Home Health can deal with it and Jim can stay home. I am sure he (and you) will feel much better.

On pins and needles waiting for an answer before we fly out of the country tomorrow afternoon! Keeping fingers crossed that it's nothing but good news!

AfterMyNap 09-08-2008 12:37 PM

Thanks for the update, Sandy, you handle this like a champion. ;)

weegot5kiz 09-08-2008 12:46 PM

well thats some good news, and if Jim can do this at home thats good too. he can be a bit more relaxed, tell him I said hello and you too take it easy, you going to build an ark or should I? yowsers

SandyC 09-08-2008 12:55 PM

Cindy, I bought Activa. lmao

Cheryl, you think your on pins and needles? Jim is all happy and that doc better call back with good news or I am coming with you!

Frank, maybe I am crazy, don't answer that, but didn't the weather man say slight chance of rain? I think he may be wrong. haha

Kitty 09-08-2008 01:20 PM

Hey, Sandy. Hope you get to go the home health route. Wouldn't that save the VA money, too? You'd think they'd be all for that.....

Keep us posted and I'm glad Jim is feeling better. Take care of yourself, too.

Vonn07 09-08-2008 01:26 PM

thanks for the update ...

maybe if we get enough rain up here - I can sail down to pick up you & Jim, Wiz, DM, Frank & Deb ... :Sinking:

FinLady 09-08-2008 01:42 PM

Another one hoping they can do the antibiotics at home rather than the hospital.

Doody 09-08-2008 02:10 PM

Aw, Sandy, I'm sorry. :o I didn't realize you battled things like this all the time, and here I go bringing it to everyone's attention. Sowwy. egg on my face

(Somebody just slap me. Or...wish for these migraines to stop hounding me because I get scattered and have a hard time thinking straight.)

SandyC 09-08-2008 02:17 PM

Doody, no no, I am touched that you thought so much of Jim and I to start a thread. No apologies needed. Come here

Doody 09-08-2008 02:19 PM

Oh gosh, thanks. Felt like a fool again.

Actually, very understanding any gut problems here. Lived with ulcerative colitis for 32 years now and, well...that gut stuff is debilitating.

 back at ya Ms. Sandy

SandyC 09-08-2008 02:48 PM

Jim has dodged a bullet

We just got off the phone with the doctor and he feels Jim is stable enough to stay home!!!! He told me if Jim starts to run any kind of fever or gets worse than he feels right now to take him in right away for IV. He is keeping Jim on Macrobid for two more weeks and then we'll go in for a check up and more tests to see if he has the all clear.

Thanks everyone for all your support! Jim is so happy we're going to Sonic! lol
