Freshest coffee- do you grind your own?

Ok, since nappy brought up the subject of coffee, I got to thinking, I was going to do a poll but changed it to a normal thread with questions.

1. Which brand/ kind of coffee do you like? which is the best?

2. what kind of maker do you have? single cup or pot?

3. do you grind your own beans or buy ground?

My wife got a Tassimo coffee making system as a gift a few years back and we use those pod's, I am tired of them and am trying to convince her to put it on craigs list and get a maker like nappy just bought, or we may be a two coffee maker family.

I used to grind my own beans,

1. I love Dunkin' Donuts coffee, but buy cheaper brands.

2. By the pot, dear sir. (I secretly long for a coffee cup that will hold an entire pot.)

3. I grind my teeth. Isn't that enough?

My favorite is 100% Columbian. I like Eight O'Clock (grind the whole bag at the store), Hills Bros., Maxwell House, and Folger's only when desperate. I don't dig any other variety more than Columbian but real Kona is a close second and Sumatran is quite nice as well.

I used to grind by the pot but it's not convenient for me here so I put the grinder away for now. One of these days it will be back in action.

I tried some Tassimo and that other one with the little liquid dealies and neither one impressed me enough to convert.

There's an Italian coffee that's excellent but I can never remember the name, it comes in a really tall gold can with some red on it. I love that stuff but I'm not ready to start ordering coffee from overseas!

*smack*

Get your own kind, that one's mine, ya' copy cat.

Tim Hortons fine grind. All the way. Comes in 1kg tins. Don't have to grind it myself, and always tastes delicious.

Oh, I have a 12 cup maker... one of those ones requiring a filter. Percolator? I think they're called? :p

weegot5kiz 09-09-2008 10:11 PM

8 oclock columbine and mix it with millhouse and some dunkin and then fresh grind it and brew it on the stove got me one of them old fangled coffee makers

my question is when are they coming out with a coffee IV drip:yikes:

1. I really enjoy Cafe Bustelo, but don't have many opportunities here in Houston to drink it. I drank it daily when we lived in Miami. Favorite at work - Texas Pecan. Home - Folger's (my wife does the shopping).

2. By the pot - at home, a Braun. At work, a Bunn industrial job.

3. We'll grind occasionally, usually around holidays. Otherwise - we're really too busy.

Maybe we can get CayoKay to send us some from Belize, Cindy! **hint, hint Kay!** She's always talking about how good the coffee is there!

I think coffee should be listed as it's own food group......:o

2. what kind of maker do you have? single cup or pot? Pot

3. do you grind your own beans or buy ground? Usually buy ground but sometimes get the whole bean accidentally. I have a ginder at home, too.

1. There is a coffee shop near me which I LOVE their coffee, when I can afford it - LaLa Java - otherwise it is Maxwell House

2. I use a percolator! It perks up to 8 cups.

3. Sometimes grind if I buy from LaLa, otherwise just buy ground.

Good coffee in the morning is the best!

soxmom 09-10-2008 08:08 AM

I like eight o clock or dunkin donuts.:) sorry my dear purists but its
gotta be hazelnut served with extra milk, no sugar.(or as my dear uncle calls it fu fu coffee)

hmmmm.........drinking some now........good stuff.:)

TwoKidsTwoCats 09-10-2008 08:26 AM

I buy a big bag of Starbucks Houseblend beans at Sam's Club. We grind a weeks worth at a time. It's all run through a plain 'ol Mr Coffee.

Hubby uses amaretto creamer and I use hazelnut...if sweetener is needed we both use agave.

Just use Folgers Dark now.

Jules A 09-10-2008 09:26 AM

Love my coffee! We grind our own and make it by the pot. I drink it black. Most times we use 8 o'clock Bokar blend which I love and when on sale is quite cheap. Dunkin Donuts is also a favorite of mine. DH likes Kona also.

No coffee, no workee!!! We have a Krups 12c coffeemaker and Krups grinder. We grind a few days worth and keep it in an airtight jar.

I just bought a bunch of Starbucks Special Reserve on sale, from all over the world - Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Sumatra, and Mexico. I like cinnamon added to the grounds before brewing.

Becca44 09-10-2008 10:32 AM

we use a Toddy coffee maker

It's a cold brew - no electricity - system, 67% less acid in the final elixer. :) It's one of those things where you put the fresh ground beans in with water and wait 12 or so hours before uncorking. In the end, it creates about a quart of coffee concentrate to be used in either hot or cold beverages, depending on how you prefer your java. It lasts us at least a week.

We've been using it for years. The flavor is awesome and the fact that it's low tech suits me these days... :)

Earl,

I have to admit that the BEST coffee that I have had is my daily "dose" from the local gas station/java shop.:D They must put something in that stuff becuase it is better than anything I can get elsewhere.:)

I do make coffee one cup at a time late in the afternoon/evening. I use several methods depending on how much time I have. These include a one-cup drip coffee maker or by pouring hot water onto grounds in a cup.

aw, gosh darn it!

Belize doesn't really have the elevation to properly grow coffee...

so, there's not much available, and it's pretty pricey.

luckily, we're next door to Guatemala and Nicaragua, where some of the best coffees in the world are happening!

here's one of my local favorites:

http://www.miramarproductions.com/ga...cts/coffee.gif

we usually buy the whole roasted beans from Gallon Jug.

and grind every couple of days.

our coffeemaker is a Krups Aroma Control with a thermal carafe, and no heating plate to wear out.

I figured this time around I would splurge a little and get a nice coffee maker that might produce better quality results and last a bit longer. With that said, I decided on the Krups AromaControl 198 with a steel carafe. I tried it out when I got home - I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of this unit.

Kay Debbie says hello and two bags of java and some papaya jam, at least she thinks thats what the jam was....that you were making

CayoKay 09-10-2008 01:25 PM

Frank, it's mango!

yummy yummy yum yum !!

just made a big batch of yoghurt, and put a quarter cup of the jam in the bottom of each glass...

the jars now getting "cultured" (get THIS, lol !!) in our spare incubator !!

yeah, really! it keeps a uniform temperature, and is safe from bugs.

as far as shipping you some coffee and jam, lol, you don't even wanna KNIOW the cost of international postage on a package, honey!

FinLady 09-10-2008 03:45 PM

We have a coffee grinder, but we found out we are usually not awake enough in the morning to do it - LOL :D

We prefer fresh ground coffee, so we get some at our grochery store from time to time. Believe it or not, they actually have a good selection. But for normal weekday stuff, we do one of the Folger's dark coffees.

Of course, we're big on Starbuck's too. :)

KAOheim 09-11-2008 07:38 AM

You have to grind daily to get really good coffee, I do so the evening before bed so I just have to press a button. If I'm confident in the time I'll get up I set the timer. I used to bu SBUX's and Peete's - too expensive though very good, I now buy three pound bags of similarly good beans at Sam's. Not quite as good as Peete's but close enough to make up the difference in price.

hollym 09-11-2008 10:07 AM

I have a Melitta Grind & Brew machine. We use 8 O'Clock whole bean coffee. You simply scoop the whole beans in the night before, put the water in and push the timer button. In the morning, the timer sets the whole process in motion. Beans get ground and then the brewing commences. It all adds up to the best of all worlds.
