Cyst woes again
So I have my antibiotic cream for this cyst, and I started on September 10th applying it to the cyst twice daily.
We're the 14th now, and the cyst has grown! It's like, LET ME OUT!!!! Still no word on the specialist either who I'm supposed to be seeing about removing this either. I think if it's still red and bigger than smaller, I'll be calling my GP tomorrow to say, ok enough is enough, and probably then go to the ER for removal if she can't. |
Oh so this is why you said in my post something about cysts. What IS up with that, if it isn't one thing i is another....
Don't ya just love how all these docs set us up with a specialist that takes like 9 years to get an appointment with them...... I have not even HEARD from my PCP on the specialist they are sending me to...... I'll go to the ER with ya laura we can be "Cyst" buddies.............:) Seriously though, I hope it works out soon for yours...... Joe Quote:

Thanks Joe. I'll be calling tomorrow if this thing looks like it did last night. If the redness finally starts to fade though, I can wait for the specialist. Its on my back (by shoulder) so it's in an annoying spot for sure... if I move the wrong way in bed, I hit it, and OUCH.

Is this one of "those" kind that might erupt? I get that type too.
If so . . . - DON'T poke at it. - in case you get tempted, DON'T poke at it!! - leave it completely alone, except that ointment. Use that faithfully, as prescribed. - After 2 - 3 weeks, start using hot compresses on it, once or twice a day - DON'T poke at it, it will cause it to run and hide underground (till the next time it flares up)! You will know when it's ready to drain and eventually one of the hot compresses will prompt it to. Cherie |
Yeah, eruption is what I thought. I'll keep at the ointment and see in a week and a half what's up ;)
|
I actually called my doctor's office today, she's on vacation of course!
So I called Telecare, and asked the nurse if it would be OK to try and get this thing to drain naturally. I do not have fever with it, but it looks like a volcano, minus the head, about to erupt! They said definitely fine, hot compresses 3 times daily for 20 minutes. I can handle that. Good thing I'm not heat intolerant when it comes to that stuff. |
Did I mention DON'T poke at it?
Don't press on it either. Gentle hot compresses only. It'll still take 2 - 3 weeks all up, I bet. :p Cherie |

I try not to press on it, but accidents happen, such as, leaning back in my chair and doing the OUCH. I can wait 2-3 weeks for this thing. It's been there for years now =( |
Is this a cyst or a boil, laura?? My DS had both. The cyst literally inflamed and was extremely tender to the touch. The Dr's had to drain it.
The boil erupted itself after hot baths and hot compresses. The boil bled like crazy, but went away after it popped. Cherie gave you some great advice esp the DO NOT TOUCH! take care and let us know what happens. |
Oh it's definitely a cyst. It's been a hard lump under my skin since.. gosh. I think it's been there 5 or 6 years now that I've noticed?
My doctor's looked at it quite a few times. It just wants out of there now! I've been doing hot compresses and keeping on top with the cream :) NO TOUCHIE BAD BAD! :) |
sorry the cream isnt helping Laura  if you dont mind me asking wont heat draw it out? instead of shrinking, I'm asking cause i am not sure. I hope you get to feeling better soon laura:hug:
|
Heat will hopefully draw it out... it's not getting smaller, it's getting larger.
Luckily I can still tolerate a hot bath, and that's what I did. Laid in there for an hour with my book with the cyst in hot water haha. |

Ouch Cherie. I'm sorry hun, that sounds DREADFUL.
Speaking of dreadful, I finally gave in and went to the ER last night. Around Midnight. Thinking... Wednesday night, not busy... Oh, you'd be surprised. Finally my name was called at 7 am. I went in and the doctor lanced it, and drained it. It was a LOT of puss (sorry for getting graphic here). She packed it, and sent me along with a note to take back to the ER Saturday at 9am to have the packing out, and inspect the area with the doctor on call. So much relief having it out. I have a digital photo of it, but I'll spare you folks unless you want to see the 'before' shot :p |
Oh my Laura, I saw the cyst pic - that *really* looked painful. So glad you were finally able to get some relief.

:ROTFLMAO: I bet you're right! That is just TOO funny! |
Oh laura~ so glad you got that taken care of. That's exactly what the Dr's did to my DS's. It had been round and hard for years and then all of a sudden one day, wham ~ it was inflamed, big time. I bet you are so relieved. I also could not believe how much packing they put in there.
Hope it's feeling a lot better now. take care laura. |
Thanks DM :) Packing comes out tomorrow! Then I'll see what they say beyond that I guess :)
|
Just checking in to see how it's going Laura and if the packing's out. BTW I had one of these guys on my tailbone and *trust* me, I still remember how painful it was. I did have to have surgery later to remove the cyst.
|
Aww, you're too sweet dear!
Packing came out (ugly mess!) aaaaaaaaaaaaand.... More packing went in. They want it to 'naturally heal' from the inside out. So now I have to go back every day for a week. :p 2.5 hours to see the doctor in the ER today. Thankfully they're sending me to the same place for the rest of the week where I get my IVSM done for my MS. I know all the nurses down there and they rock! AND they're FAST. But 8:45am every day for a week. :( |
Hey laura~ I do remember that too~ they want it to heal from the inside out, so it closes nicely. Glad your'e doing better.
Hey Cherokee~ was your cyst a Pilonidal Cyst? My DS had one on his tailbone and had to have surgery. It was a mess and so painful, as he also had a fistula w/it. He's had several cysts. Think he gets them due to being immunosuppressant. take care all! |
Yep, DM it sure was. I remember not being able to sit or sleep comfortable for months while it was healing. LOL
|
I dunno what type of cyst mine is/was, but the nurse that unpacked/repacked yesterday said she could not see anymore infection. Same today, unpacked, repacked, no further signs of infection.
They said I may not have to go for the entire week, because it's healing so well/quickly and lack of infection. Woohoo! :) |
Aw Laura, that's wonderful news! :yahoo:
|
Today, I didn't have to go to the hospital!
Yesterday, they just gave me a bunch of bandages, and said, "Remove the packing yourself Friday, put a new bandage on, and you should be good unless you notice infection come back". Yay! :) |
