Schwan's anyone?

Ok, so the big green/yellow truck stopped by today to drop off the sept./oct catalog today. I am very excited. we used to get food from schwans years ago and stopped when we moved. I requested a catalog last night, today they dropped it off and coming back next wed to get our order.

I am reminded what I used to love ordering, most of that gets an automatic order.

Chicken Cordon bleu
Bacon (best bacon for homemade potato salad)
cookie dough ice cream
Not sure what else.

Their prices seem to have stayed reasonable.

Who else shop's schwans?

Momma's Kids 09-17-2008 05:53 PM

Earl, I used them quite often when I lived in FL. It was just easier than going shopping and they have good food...some think it is a little expensive. I figured it saved me time along with driving, and walking through a grocery...it was worth it!!

I loved their water rolls, and they had some whole beans I loved...mmmm, you can also order online...they are even in our neighborhood here. Here is between nowhere and nothing. lol

I used to use them when DDs were little and I was working. I haven't used them in many years. However, I love their ice cream. YUMMY!!!

Earl 09-17-2008 06:02 PM

I also love the money back guarantee, you don' t like the food, (if it tastes like it shouldn't) they will replace or refund, the local grocery store won't.

I like doing business with those that stand behind their products with money back guarantee. It's why we own Cutco knives, Kitchen Craft cookware, and craftsman tools.

The Schwann man stuck a catalog in my door a few wks ago, but I haven't ordered anything yet. I used to, but they would come too late in the day. Heck, I'm already in my jammies.

Might have to give them another try sometime.

Kitty 09-17-2008 07:15 PM

I had a catalog for them not too long ago. We're trying to eat more whole foods and not as much preservatives....and since I am home all day I don't look for the convenience factor as much now. Plus, they are waaaay out of my price range.

Vonn07 09-17-2008 07:18 PM

the 'rocky-road-caramel-swirly' .... now that's a good ice cream from Schwan's!

Momma's Kids 09-17-2008 08:52 PM

My lil princess...if you ask them they will deliver to your work, or if you need them to come to your door at a certain time frame...

I haven't used them since I quit working, besides I live less than a mile from a grocery and no traffic to get there...easy.:)

AfterMyNap 09-18-2008 07:48 AM

Just started using them when Jack came home from the hospital. It's pretty nice when groceries just show up and the guy puts it all into the freezer for me.

Some of the things we've tried are great and some are awful. My guy informed me that Schwan's is the maker of most frozen pizzas you find in the grocery store, so now you know what their pizzas are like. :vomit:

Of all the things we've tried so far, the worst was this nasty thing they called "meatloaf" which was neither like meat nor loaf but was definitely stewed in chemical flavorings. Earl is right, it's pretty foolproof, if it's yuck, they'll take it back and give full credit.

The best to us so far is the turkey dinner, the pot pies that are real food and enough, and the chicken entrees. It's all easy to make and we've landed at the place where it's the "easy, no work" stuff to fall back on instead of carry-out from Applebee's or Olive Garden, etc. The Chinese stays.

All I want to know is did you have Schwann's ice cream in your freezer when I was there, AMN?

Can you believe it - we have Schwans here in Maine!

Yipper - I love their french fries cooked in oil not in the oven.... the are to die for!

The girls always like the bisquits and of course the ice cream....

my parents like the haddock....

We had a Schwan's delivery guy when we lived in "the sticks" in NM. Always great ice cream and tasty dinner fare as well. Now that I'm in a "metropolitan" area in Oregon, I haven't seen their freezer trucks cruising around. Too bad.:(

Girlie Girl 09-19-2008 08:25 AM

I have never heard of them before. Does anyone know if they are in MA?

Go to Schwans.com and type in your zip code. I know they deliver in the Worcester area. You can also have the food shipped.

I don't do Schwans by order, but the truck stops here all the time trying to sign us up or sell us extra stuff they have and I will buy then if it's a good price.

SandyC 09-19-2008 11:38 AM

I haven't tried them yet but I did use Peapod faithfully before I moved to another area. I miss Peapod.

Dejibo 09-19-2008 12:44 PM

LOVE THEM!

http://www.schwans.com/

If I am not going to be home, I put an envelope on my door with what yummy things I want, and a check, and a cooler on the step, and when I come home...there it is!

Most of the time I pre order, but when I forget, he swings by my house anyway. he just left ten minutes ago!

mmm...cheddar bay biscuits! like those at RedLobster. Bourbon steaks, and marinated salmon steaks. really great quality, and easy to prepare. I have been using them for years!

They do have many places around the US and not just New England. Click on the link and see the yummy things for yourself.

That is too cool. I loved Peapod too Sandy! I am going to look this up. I am 1/2 mi down the road from the Worcester line. Maybe they'll come to me!!!! Thanks River!

Had never heard of Schwan's before this thread. Thank you for teaching me something new today! :)

JessieSue 09-20-2008 10:21 PM

Schwan's is it's own food group in my household, and I get all my servings in each day! LOL I'm hooked on their Autumn Delight(i think that's the name) ice cream! Mmmmmmm!! It's a good thing its only seasonal! :D

tovaxin_lab_rat 09-21-2008 11:28 AM

If you have any food allergies or have a problem with MSG, be sure to read the labels on their food! :( Their ice cream is good and addictive!

They have good products and their trucks are everywhere in our area. I know people who leave their back doors open with their orders taped to their freezers for the Schwann delivery guy just in case they aren't home!

SallyC 09-21-2008 02:01 PM

Stoffers used to be my Chef, now, it's Schwans..Yummmmmmm:p

I also love any of their chicken entrees and dinners. especially their breast filets and Chicken Casserole/chick pies. I also like their breakfast toastwiches, lean ham & cheese and philly beef pouches.

Sorry Nappy, never tried their meatloaf and now, I won't, TYVM..:) Love most of their appetizers and snacks, rolls etc.

I find their prices not too bad. Stoffers gourmet frozen dinners and entrees are more expensive, IMO.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if they'll replace all of their frozen stuff, I just had to throw out, because of the elecrtric outages???? Probably not...act of God stuff and all that..Humph.

I'm putting in my order today or tomorrow, for wednesday's delivery. DD brought me a few things to tide me over until then..

AfterMyNap 09-21-2008 03:29 PM

LOL, Sal, you should be jumping for joy, it's terrible! I suppose if a body likes MacDonald's or BK as meat, they'll probably like it, but not in this house.

The chicken & turkey stuff have all been very good so far. We tried the crispy cod and found it to be carpy carp. The trial and error has been kind of fun, "What's for dinner?" "Mystery meat!" "Good, get thawing!"
