Worst Pain EVER!!!
Last night I had to teach dance for 2 1/2 hours. I got home around 9:30 (yes that is way past my bedtime) and at 10:00 both my feet started to cramp. It was just in my toes to start then all of a sudden it was my arches, my ankles and my R calf!!!! Whoa that was some pain I have never experienced before!
I thought it was just because of teaching. My feet cramped a couple of times during class. But then when the cramps wouldn't go away I started to think it was MS. After about 15 min of pain (and many f bombs) I called my neuro. She called back and confirmed it was spasticity. Luckily she called in a script for Baclofen for me at the 24hr pharmacy. Is this what some of you deal with? Do you take Bac for it? Also, is this the start of more spasms for me? Sorry for all the questions but this is new to me. It kind of freaked me out...not to mention DBF! He was shocked but also soooo supportive! I think he is a keeper. |
I have spasms like that too - starts in the feet (they get distorted) and then moves up my leg to my butt. It is uncomfortable, if not painful sometimes.
Are you still sore today? I know that after that happens I'm sore for a day or 2. Maybe I have small spasms going on and don't realize. I don't take the Baclofen for it. Although I have some on hand, I am trying to stay off as many medications as I can. I do however, take Epsom salt baths. These really, really help my sore muscles. I hope you are starting to feel better today. |
I am still sore today. From my knees down are sore and feel weak. My feet are the worst right now. I took 1/2 a pill to see if that would help with the soreness. I usually don't take meds unless I really have to.
I will keep in mind the epsom salt bath. Maybe I'll have DBF fill one up for me tonight. hehehe I could use a little pampering after last night! :o Thanks for the advice tkrik! |
sorry you are feeling so yucky GG:(. I get these in my butt....for years
and years. Heat works great for me but when they are happening all over its impossible to apply heat to every spot.:( maybe a nice warm bath(not too hot) will do the trick.:hug:to you. feel better soon. |
Thanks so much! The pain was just so intense! I will try the bath next time (hopefully there won't be a next time)!
|
I hope you feel better soon.:) I am always sore after any activity. It may be that you over did it last night and got your muscles riled up.
I take flexeril for my muscle spasms and drink plenty of water. I also swear and live with the heating pad. It is my cure all for any pain.:) Hugs, Becky:hug: |
Sorry to hear you're still feeling sore. Here's hoping to you that you get over this quickly!

I'll try the heating pad too! Thanks Becky. Although putting around the tootsies might be challenging! I'm sure it will help my calves. Seems the Bac has helped some. Still a little weak. |
Sorry for your intro to spazz!
Baclofen helps. I am on 20 mg. TID with extra doses as needed. It holds the foot and leg cramps at bay. I also take tizanidine when I go to bed. I hate getting awakened by spasms. I need all the sleep I can get! I have TWO of those hot wax baths. When I get the hand cramps, I soak them for hours in the hot wax. (Heating pads are hard to keep on hands!) My feet are too big for the wax vat ( ) or I'd have them in one too! (I wish I had a body sized one sometimes...:p) Stretching helps! Do stretches before you get up, before you do any exercise, AND AFTER exercise to cool down! They really do help to cut the cramps off before they start. I hope you find something that relieves them for you. |

I hate taking meds too. A very smart doctor brought me around when she reminded me that meds are there to help you and there's no shame in needing a little help. She used a slogan that I have lived by ever since: Better living through chemistry! ( TYVM MBSews! I MISS YOU!) |
Well thank you my river friend! I am hoping (with all my fingers crossed) that this was just a one time thing. I know, I know, wishful thinking! MBSews is very smart. That is so true! I will keep that and you in mind when taking my meds!
|
I'm so sorry you had to deal with that, GG. I've had spasticity in my feet and legs before and it starts out feeling like a charlie horse but I know better.....I know what's coming! They do hurt like nothing else (I can only describe it as labor pains in my legs!!). I know of nothing else where the pain is so intense it makes you want to rip someone's head off! I have a prescription for Baclofen but haven't taken any in quite a while. I keep them on hand, though, just in case!
I hope you're feeling better today. And yes, the soreness is just a gentle reminder of what you experienced and what your leg muscles can do to you!! |
Thanks for the kind words Kitty. Unfortunately you can understand and at least I know I am not alone. Poor DBF...he didn't know what to do! He is a trooper! I think I stunded him pretty good with my f bombs! You know what, now that you say they relate to labor pains, I agree. He was rubbing one foot and it felt better so he switched to the other foot and I almost ripped his head off it hurt so bad....similar to delivery! :p

you've gotten some good advice.
i have lots of muscle problems too. if i'm overdoing my body will really object. if i push too far i pay the price. i've used baclofen for muscle spasms too. i only used it PRN (as needed) and stopped when the spasm went away. i too agree that heat is good for tight muscles. moist heat is best, thus a very warm (but not hot) bath to immerse both your legs would be helpful. be very careful using a heating pad. too much heat or too high a temperature can tend to dry muscles out. that's why moist heat is better. |
Oh yeah, I hear ya GG. Those spasms are real killers. It's why I went on Baclofen at first and then stayed on it for almost 3 years solid. I weaned myself off it (with the permission of my doc) but kept some around for when I need it, which isn't all that often but boy does it help when I do.
Heat does help. But MBSews was right--meds are there to help you and there's no shame in using them to get through something. So do use them if you need them. You might want to look into those awesome thermal pads that you can attach to your body. I don't know if you can use them on your feet, but I wouldn't see why you couldn't do that. They helped me a lot for my back when I had to go to work and sit with my back in spasm. Even though I was using the Soma at the time, they helped to keep the muscles warm. I used them when I was on the plane too for 8 hours and that really helped things too. Do what you need to. I sat there massaging my feet so many nights it wasn't funny! Epsom salt in a bath works wonders for sore muscles. :) |
I am sorry for your pain, GG - I take 20mg 4x a day of Baclofen. I hope you feel better soon - as RW said stretching helps, she taught me!! ;)
I miss MBsews too! |
Oh no, poor GrippyGrind, that does hurt and it's so hard to get it to let go. It's a nightly ritual for me, I take zanaflex and have cart blanche on how much. I start with two at bedtime and might take another every half hour for two more hours before it lets go enough for me to sleep. Yes, it's very painful! My legs dance too! But only when I'm trying to sleep.:mad::mad:
Squeezing my feet with warm hands helps a lot, also, I use a percussion massager on the sides and backs of my thighs but I don't have me a HandsomeHottie (so you should really pity ME!). |
OUCH GG!!!! I'm sorry you were in such pain, but now I think I know what to call those cramping pain I get when I myself, overdo. You described my pain to a T. Take care GG!!!!!
May have to talk to the Dr about Baclofen to keep on hand. AWWW RW~~~ we know your'e a smart cookie too!.. And, we miss you when your'e not around here. |
Hey GG & HH how is it going today?
AMN - since I have met him in person I will vouch he is a hottie & a keeper for her...... I have already asked her if he has a brother??? check in when you can GG! |
Those spasms in the feet and calves are killers! I get them 2 to 3 times a week! I finally took AMN's advice and got a percussion massager and it has been a life saver! I massage my calf and thigh muscles to relax my toes and arches and my calf muscles. Sometimes it takes 20-30 minutes to get the calf muscles to release. Heat helps.
I take Sinemet and klonopin. Baclofen and Tizanidine did nothing for me but put me to sleep! Also the weekly deep tissue massage has helped me a lot, believe it or not! When my hands cramp up, warming them helps. Not much else I can do. I hope you don't get them too often. If you are going to be teaching dance, make sure you keep your muscles warm and your body well hydrated. That will help. |
I agree with the heat FG - when my legs are bad I turn my electric blanket on and crawl into bed..... not to much heat but heat is good for me.

OH AMN I do pity you! That is not fair at all. hehehe! Everyone should have a HH! |

That is why I just love this place...you all can understand my descriptions of what I am going through. Unfortunately. You should call the doc. When I took it I felt so much better. Good luck to you DM! |
Glad we could help!
DM needs our help now...she needs a percussion massage! Wait..we don't have one of them thar machines! (...someone start whacking her legs!!...):D (( i'm always willing to help out a friend!)) |
Thanks so much flygirl. I will remember that! I will be teaching now until June, only 2.5 hrs a week but still that was enough to set me off last week. I just hope that was a one time thing!
Hi Yeahbut! I am doing good! HH is doing great too! I love all the posts (he does too when I read them to him) And no he doesn't have a brother ladies. I might be willing to share..... I taugh yesterday with very little cramping so I am hoping that was it. My legs are still weak and ache but I will take that over the cramping pain!!!! |

Let's compare notes in the morning. |
Hope you find relief. Baclofen and Tizanidine are not working for Jim anymore. May have to check on the meds Cheryl is taking. Jim's follow up is on the 30th.
|
Thanks Sandy! Good luck to Jim! How's the soap working so far?
I am going to have to try it. Luckily I haven't had the painful cramps like I did last week, only little ones in my feet at night. I am going to try the soap. Weird!!! If we all do this they are going to be calling us "those people over on the crackpot site" |

Well, there wasn't any relief last night but we used Zest and apparently it has chemicals that wont work like Ivory will. So, as silly as I feel, I will buy Ivory tomorrow and give it another try. :D |

It all seems so silly but if it works we're game! Sometimes I think we should go back to old home remedies. The meds alone can cause so many problems.
