OT: Logic Tawk...

it was really cool to tawk all the geek tawk. I go back from time to time and will probably post questions in there from time to time. LOL

I am a firm believer when it comes to these talks that there really are NO wrong answers...outside of the box thinking really is what makes all these theories possible.

My fun with 1 and 0 was really that I think life is probably as simple as On and Off, of course, not knocking all the inbetweens, but I think someone said, once we get it, we'd be banging our heads at how SIMPLE it was...

so....

here is my thought of the day...

what's your thought on LOGIC in Robots?

Do you think we'll able to create Robots that can THINK for themselves??

I have my own theories but am interested in everyone's input.

Just wanted to throw this out though...

interactive bots ARE out there now...granted, not to the point where they can look at the Three Stooges and laugh...(well, not unless you teach them)

please throw out your wildest thoughts on this... :D

tkrik 09-22-2008 11:46 PM

I don't know, Moi. I think we need to learn to think for ourselves 1st. LOL

Seriously though, it could be possible but we are not there yet. We have so much more to learn, create, develop etc. before we could do it.

If you think about, say 150 years ago, did they ever think it was possible that they could create something that would go to the moon? Or fly in the sky? Or even vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.? The concept could be the same with robots that think for themselves.

who moi 09-22-2008 11:52 PM

150 yrs?? :thud:

I'll be dead by then...unless I am fused with a robot..then I'd be AI...LMAO....

hmmmm..that might be cool, I can be Robomoi (OK, have to give you credit for this name, trish. LOLOL)

yeah, I think we are a long way off for it to really happen...but do you think it will be possible, even 150 yrs into the future?

I mean, Robots that CAN think for themselves, totally independent of software inputs from humans.

a robot that is able to "LOVE" have "PMS" and such??? LOLOL

:D well, is PMS considered LOGICAL or ILLOGICAL??*scratching head...LOLOL

PS, agreeing!! we NEED to think for ourselves first......LMAO.................

weegot5kiz 09-23-2008 01:22 AM

not sure if they will be able to process thoughts, but do think through data and math calculations they will be able to form an answer to given situations, or at least a positive percentage answer. like say the robot finds itself standing and a big bull goes past... I dont think the robot will be able to calculate the thought hmm should i wave a red flag, but I do think it will be able to process the info of what it is and through data be able to sense that this is a dangerous animal

Well Mr Moi, can a robot be taught to think for itself????

I am going to say no because a robot is just a machine that a human has told to do input this, output that...

There may come a day that a robot can respond to an emotional input but in the end the robot is still programmed by a human...

(all those dots at the end mean I am still in the thinking mode so unsure what I mean or what I am trying to mean or...) Ok Chris Rock is on Letterman and I am having trouble focusing ha ha :D:D:D

I will sum up my nonsense ramblings with this (man i hope this works LOL)--way cool it worked.

who moi 09-23-2008 02:41 AM

INPUT, MORE INPUT!!

http://www.virginmedia.com/microsite...bots/img_3.jpg

keep them coming, folks!! I love all the inputs...will input my own views in da future...LOL

:D

btw, I see "dots" as well....LMAO.....

and snoozie, SPOCK is NOT a robot...he's a...ummmm...Cylon?? Wait, I get my Sci-Fi's mixed up...he's a ummmmm....Storm Pooper...no...ummmm...hold on...

Cling on!! He's a Cling On!!

:D

snoozie 09-23-2008 03:33 AM

I used to call my son a klingon when he was little because he was such a mama's boy he "clinged" on to me no matter where I went LOL

Oh and spock is not a cling on...my non trekkie friend...he is half human and half vulcan...being a klingon..well that would be illogical...Sue

half human and half vulture....sheesh....

oooh, that means he could join the "Clean Plate" Club....LOL

now THAT's...illogical....

Ok, I think I need to get a little Zzzzz cause my head is NOT on right....LOLOL

Hey thats what I like about you... when someone says he is not of a right mind who do I think of...could it be "who moi" :D:D:D

oldsteve 09-23-2008 04:32 AM

Robots.

Having worked with robotics in the semiconductor industry for over 10 years, I have to say that they're only as smart as the humans that programmed them.

We'd get summoned by various operators that a robot was "freaking out" thereby assigning some sort of intelligence quality or trait to a dumb machine. It always turned out that a previous Mr. Fixit had screwed up the program or tweaked some hardware setting to cause the problem.

Reminds me of the old saying from Navy electronics school. "Garbage in, garbage out." We even had students that would say, whenever they got the wrong answer in math classes, "There must be something wrong with my garbage can". Referring to their calculator.

So no, I don't think that robots will acquire intelligence. If they ever start acting up, there's always the ON/OFF switch.

Sort of reminds me of the Y2K scare.

weegot5kiz 09-23-2008 10:34 AM

so no robots that are bored will be amusing themselves like thishttp://i532.photobucket.com/albums/e...ing/walle2.gif

allentgamer 09-24-2008 12:45 AM

ROFLMAO!!

Those pictures are hilarious!

Man robots with intelligence hmmm. In I robot with Will Smith that is exactly what that one robot had, but I feel that it is a loooong way off.....err.. well maybe not considering that only a few years ago the computer that is comparable to our laptops was the size of a football field LOL.

Now what about the computers??? That actually worries me more than robots...can you remember Hal??

Shivers in fear!!! :D

weegot5kiz 09-24-2008 12:53 AM

I was gonna mention HAL, that was my fist thought. yeah computers taking over hmmm, almost as good as they are drugging our water so we complacent and dumb lol

oldsteve 09-24-2008 04:01 AM

Yes Allen, I would worry more that Bill Gates was somehow able to instill his personality into all PC's and plotting world domination.

Oh wait, he and the "Redmond Mafia" are already on that path.

weegot5kiz 09-24-2008 06:25 AM

gates has a personality?:yikes:

Such as it is....

allentgamer 09-26-2008 04:17 PM

Did you see that show on the history channel about robots?

Was real interesting, and it looks like the computer is what we should really worry about because it is what will be the robots brains.

The technology is just screamin along! I dont think it will be too much longer before we have some runnin around servin up lunch, and chatting with the ladies during tea time LOL.

MelodyL 09-30-2008 09:44 PM

Ah, NOW YOU ACTUALLY ARE TALKING ABOUT ANDROIDS, ARE YOU NOT??

I take it you have seen Commander Data on Star Trek, am I correct?

There you have it, a synthetic, artificial, non breathing, SENTIENT LIFEFORM.

With a positronic brain no less!!!

God, I miss Star Trek!!!

Mel

who moi 10-02-2008 08:17 PM

I hadn't forgotten you guys...but I need a clear head to collect my thoughts on this...

thank you all for your inputs!! Please keep them coming!

Will tackle this when I can make sense... :)

weegot5kiz 10-28-2008 12:58 AM

interesting? http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20...tchy/3082054_1

long time ago i read or saw it on science channels about the Egyptians say they came from Sirus in the Orion constellation, yet scientist always said there is no solar system there, hmmmm, think they might of been wrong

allentgamer 12-07-2008 09:43 PM

That was a mind expanding article, it made me see the universe and life in a whole different way.

If the Egyptians were from there, and wound up here, why did they come, and were they stuck here?

Makes you wonder about the vastness of the universe, and the diversity of life that might be out there. Then you start thinking about the diversity of life just on this planet. Then, if that wasnt vast enough, add some dimensions!

Now we're talkin some serious vastness!

What if every spirits beginning is on a planet in this dimension, in this universe. Each baby/new spirit begins it's life in this dimension to learn.....to get along with other spirits. I am using spirit for lack of a better term

Anyways the life of the spirit would go through a cycle/time before dying, only to be born into another dimension, but still on this planet in this universe.

This could continue on to include many other dimensions, until you get your wings so to speak, and can traverse the vastness. All this time increasing in whatever a spirit would increase in mentally. (Stops to breath) :D

I did read somewhere recently that most scientists agree that there is some evidence that our race has had large populations that were also more advanced than what has been taught to us. Wonder if they too were from the stars.

Great article Frank.

Yep! I believe we are not far off from seeing these things if our economy, and or country can hang tough here LOL. My family are Trekkie fans like crazy! We also like Star Wars. They have some pretty neat robots in those movies.

Man just think what we could do if we could switch our brains "on" to positronic!!! :D

who moi 12-17-2008 11:46 AM

I keep on adding to this thought...will have to come and post sometimes about my own take...LOL

thanks for all the inputs... :)
