I Have A New Name
I got married in 1968 and divorced in 1972. I kept my married name since I had a child from the marriage.
I had a brief, icky second marriage in 1978 and divorced in 1979 and had my name restored in the divorce decree to my first husband's name for my son's sake. My 1st husband has not been seen in 35 years but I kept his name for my son's sake even though his father abandoned him. I have wanted to change it back to my maiden name for years. Well, I did it Monday!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I am so very happy to have my name back after 40 years of carrying a name that is not my family!!!!:D:D:D My son is 38 and gone from home trying to find himself so it does not affect him since he is a grown man. My Mom and Dad are thrilled that I am now carrying the family name again. My Dad is very ill and he is so happy about this! When I told him I was going to do this, he grinned from ear to ear and said I should have done it 40 years ago. LOL Now I am back to my real name and it really feels good!!!:D:D:D |
Congratulations, Becky STING! lol
I was thinking about you doing this today and was going to ask how it went. I am glad to see you post about it. I'll bet it feels good, like going home. Once DD17 turns 18 I will be doing the same thing. ;) EDIT: You even have a new avatar. Did you just change that today? I like it. |
Congratulations !!!!!

I am so happy for you, Becky!
When I got divorced I took my name back - my oldest daughter has my name and I thought it was only fair that one daughter has mine and the other her dads... it felt so good to go back as I can see you do too!!! |
Good for you! :)
|
Congratulations!! :)
|
Bravo, that is wonderful!

 how wonderful becky!
i have my first husbands last name. ( married 2 x..still married to hubby number 2). i did the same as you, kept it for the kids sake. then i got remarried. was in the midst of changing it to my husbands last name when grandmonkey came along. now it works out fine, since my last name is the same as grandmonkeys. sure makes things easier for school. ( he lives with us) i have always had my maiden name as my middle name on my drivers license. i do use my husbands last name in our business. thankfully i don't have to sign my name with with all of it. 39 letters. i think it's awesome you are back to being you. |
way to go Becky!! ..
Be sure to PM me your new last name so I can mail out a postcard to you!! |

that's good news becky.
a name is so important. i bet you feel like "you're home". |
Trish,
I was tempted to change it to Becky Sting but decided that would be a bad idea. LOL I am so glad that is done. It definitely feels comfortable and means a lot to me and my family. It's just ridiculous to keep someone's name just because you married them and made a horrible mistake. LOL I bet you can't wait to change your name now that you know I did it. I did change the avatar last night I think. I can't remember. LOL I thought it was really cool. I got some more shoes the other day and need to send you the pics so your daughters can see them. BOGO sale is coming soon. Hugs, Becky:hug: Quote:

That really worked out good for you and your girls! That's great! I wish I had changed my name and my son's name when he was little.
I am very happy that I was able to change my name even after 40 years. LOL Hugs, Becky Quote:

I don't even think I had the option to change my name to my maiden name when I divorced in 1972. Things were so different then. I think it was a good thing while my son was in school and growing up.
It never dawned on me to keep my maiden name as my middle name. So many women are doing that now and I think it is great. I'm glad it worked out for you having your grandmonkey's name the same as yours. That cracks me up, grandmonkey!:D:D I feel like I am getting rid of something really old and it needed to be done. I just wanted to do it for me! Hugs, Becky:hug: Quote:

Twink,
Thanks, I am very happy about it. I sent my Dad an email telling him it was legal. He answered by writing my full name and said it sounded right. I'm glad that he is so happy about it. I had no idea that it would mean that much to him. I emailed you my info. Hugs, Becky:hug: Quote:

I do feel like I am home finally. It's been a long time coming.

Congrats Becky !!
Now you are your own real person. Jappy |
Trish - My married name was not me at all. You are right about that one. I'm going to send you pics of my new shoes when I get the chance. Changing names takes a lot of work.
Sandy - I'm so glad I did it!!! Now, if I can just remember to say my real name after 40 years of carrying that crappy married name. LOL I introduced myself to someone today as half my married name before I caught myself and corrected it.:D Jappy - Thanks Jappy!:D |
When I went before the Judge last Monday for my name change, it was in a small court room but there were quite a few civil cases going on.
My name was called pretty fast since it was a simple name change. I hobbled up with my cane to the Judge's bench and she swore me in. I thought she would be very formal but she wasn't. LOL She said she got her divorce in 1972 too and it was a really good year. told her it sure was and that I was finally getting my name changed 36 years after my divorce. I told her that I wouldn't know my ex husband if he walked up to me. She pointed over to a table and said " He is right over there." I looked and it was a really good looking attorney and I told her that "I might take him." We started laughing. She said she hadn't changed her name back because she was established in her law practice and her married name was easier to remember and pronounce that her maiden name. It felt like I was just talking to a good friend. She approved it and wished me luck. She could not have been nicer. I went back to the back of the court room where my brother was seated so we could leave. He was laughing so hard because our conversation was heard by everyone in the court room over her microphone.:D |
OMG Becky..LMAO!!
