Soda or Pop
1 Attachment(s)
I think this came up a bit ago, I just found this.
Pop is in blueish tones Soda is in Yellow tones Coke is red. Green don't care, lol |
Soda here in Maine just like the map says!
|
I'm not sure which way to answer, LOL. I grew up in a state that called it soda, but live in a state that calls it pop. :D
|
Here in GA every carbonated drink is a "Coke". Doesn't matter if it's really a Sprite....it's called a Coke.
How come "Coke" and "I Don't Care" aren't part of the poll? |
It is Soda for me.
|
Make that a 2nd vote for "coke". All soft drinks are "cokes"...some just have different flavors.

One day, if we ever move to Nashville I will look forward to being able to drive to ATL to taste "chocolate coke" once in a while |
Grew up in south eastern Ontario, where we called it 'pop'.
Now I live next to Maine in New Brunswick (Canada not accounted for, whaaa?) and I don't drink any of it! But I will still refer to it as pop, until I get the weird look, and then say 'soda'. :p |
texas here....
coke...or soda. when going out to eat, you are normally asked if you want tea ( and you better say unsweetened if you don't want sweetea) or what kind of coke would you like? might need to edit your poll earl. :D  |
Soda. But a lot of my state says pop.
I think "pop" and the rest of my brain fills in "cicle" or "goes the weasel." And I HATE when you ask for a Coke and the waitress goes, "Uh huh." scribbles madly and then says, "Pepsi?" Um... NO. If I wanted Pepsi I would have SAID Pepsi. <sigh> |
lol...gazelle
my daughter is a die hard dr pepper fan. (which she can't get since she moved to the east coast) you should see her face when she orders dr pepper and they say "mr pibb?". LOLOLOL i don't drink soda's. my husband does. he won't go to taco bell since they only have pepsi products. he feels the same as you. |

Where I live, it's always been pop. My ex was from NY and always laughed when I would ask for pop and asked me if I meant soda. :D
|
I don't use either term...I ask for what I want by name. I don't drink, coke or any other caffeinated products, except coffee at times. I usually drink tea if we go out, otherwise I ask for lemonade.
I drink sierra mist and when I ask DH to get me a drink...I say 'sierra mist'. Guess I have this weird thing going on, never really thought about it. lol |
I said Soda....Is 7-up Soda?
|
Ginger Ale was in it's own 'category'. That's what Mom gave me, flat, for my upset tummy when I was a little girl :)
|
If we ask for Coke here, that's exactly what you get...Coca Cola.
Lemonade is just that, and if you want a can of (say) lime soda or pop, then you ask for a can of lime cordial. Easy! |

LOL The other conversation is: Coke. Waitress goes, "Uh huh." scribbles madly and then says, "Pepsi?" Response is given, "No. Mountain Dew?" I've occasionally gotten back, "That's not Pepsi!" My response, "Right." Quote:
I had some interesting food terminology issues in Wales. Eating's much more difficult than you think in a different country. LOL |
Yep! Sprite's classed as lemonade here.
Basically if you want a lemon drink without bubbles then you'd probably have to mix it yourself using a syrup and mineral water (or similar). There may be flat drinks available but I think you'd have to go for mineral waters with flavourings to get them. |
TONIC!!! :p
It's a Massachusetts 'thang! ;) |
Around here if you want real lemonade you use lemons, sugar, and plain ole water.

or at least a bit of lime and it has to be Schweps. |

I used to live in Maine, it was always soda, for the most part here in MA it's soda, but say a couple decades ago when I'd come visit my grandparents in MA, my grandmother would ask if I wanted Tonic :D It's more a Cape Cod/Southern Ma dialect and term ;) |
I was raised in the back woods of NC, and we grew up calling it soda pop.
Now i live in New Hampsha and its Soda. Visit my friends in the deep south, and they call it pop. kinda like the Hero sandwich versus hoggie, versus subway sandwich. Depends on where ya are. |

"I am really, really sorry this place has Pepsi. I prefer Coke too!" Yeah, it's Coke ;) Niko:cool: |
Earl, I don't know why, but I usually just ask my friends if they want to go for a "drink." It's assumed that it's a "soft" drink. *shrug
I call my dad "Pop." :) |
wow i must be in a weird part of PA.. most people i know call it soda but i still call it pop.. what my family always called it so guess it stuck.
but in reality most of my friends just call it beer now lol |

Childhood jealousy moment. I wanted a birthday party there, and never got one. :( My BROTHER did! I was upset! I remember they had these plastic towers you could climb through. Disgruntled Laura fell through a circular opening of one of these, and scraped up her sides horribly! Tears flowed freely. Now a COOL place for parties, back in the day, was "The Mad Hatter's" in Toronto (or maybe it was London, Ontario?). Least I think it was called this? I'm sure it's no longer in existence (I should look this up online), but I saw a television show about it. It was a completely Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party spot, where the kids got to throw pies at one another!! How cool is that?! My mom didn't like the idea LOL! |
Soda or Coke here.
But you better stress coke because some ??? heads think you are asking for pepsi. Jappy |
Soda.
If we have to get picky, Coke, no Pepsi. :D |
No choice for soda-pop . . .?
We often say "pop" or "soft drink" here on the west coast of Canada. Cherie |
Even though we in Chicago called it "pop", and my DH still does, I call it soda...don't know why...
|

spent 15 years in arkansas ... cola now i call it sodapop |
