our petco is having hamster ball races saturday. :D

mrsD 09-30-2008 11:41 AM

That was really cute...

I loved the hats!

By coincidence today I saw a portion of a show about a black/brown
doxie who works as a rescue dog for lost hikers/lost children.
It was on NatGeo channel, on a show about dogs that work in jobs! It also was really cute.

Such energy they have, eh? ;)

A lady in our neighborhood walks a small weiner dog each afternoon. She meanders slowly as his little legs hurry along, maybe secretly wishing for a dog she could jog with, lol. They sure are cute little things.

Doody 09-30-2008 03:17 PM

Hamster races, LOLOL! Yeaha, and I'm sure they go in straight lines! :p That would be funny to see.

I loved those little cowboys hats too Mrs. D.

Oh Wiz, LOL, people giggle all the time when they see me walking with Bruna. Espeically when the wind is kicked up a little and her big ears go flying off to the sides in the wind.

I love watching her shadow as she walks. They just crack me up.

I took Bruna to a very small lake here with a park and nice biking/walking trails this past weekend. It was so beautiful outside. By the time we got all the way to the bridge, her tongue was almost hanging to the ground. LOL we sat on the bridge and enjoyed the water in the sunshine for awhile.

I ended up carrying her halfway because I guess it was just too long of a jaunt for her. Took her to a drinking fountain and I thought she'd never stop lappin up the water!

Oh, the dog Jeau and Linus (BIg Nose) in those pictures, I had the pleasure of meeting those lovely little weiners!

My son's friend has a weiner pup who was the runt of the litter... :) He's a hilariously cute little guy. He tried to mate with a female German sheperd (sp?) once... :ROTFLMAO:

Vowel Lady 09-30-2008 06:35 PM

I saw one of these races years ago after I got my weiner dog and FREAKED OUT! They are soooo cute!
Thank you for providing a link.
They are awesome little creatures!
OH and my weiner dog has a pink cowgirl hat, a biker chick outfit (long story), a bikini, a cheerleader outfit, a back to school outfit (just in case we sign up for obedience school II) and of course holiday clothing. Yep, HELP, I've lost my marbles and can't get up. I use to make fun of people who do this stuff. Now, I am the QUEEN of folks "who do this stuff." LOL!
:D
p.s.
Love the last line of that poem.
I still have days that my little darlin has her attitude about the toilet. I've NEVER met a dog as stubborn as these little ones when it comes to that department. They need to come with a private duty nurse or something.

Makes me want to adopt more low riders!! I Just love Dachshunds!

Doody 10-03-2008 08:17 AM

Vowel Lady, the last line of that poem just cracks me up too. HUA gave me the number of a woman who apparently is very good with helping people train their dogs, and over the phone! I have no clue what that is about. But I'm supposed to tell her that I adopted from HUA.

Bruna just drives me nuts in the toitey training department no matter how much time I devote. And I am sure she must know better! They aren't dummies!

Speaking of dummies, I even have the Dachsunds for Dummies book.

Dottie, I almost got 2 low-riders but I'm glad I didn't, not at that time anyway. I was overwhelmed at having the responsibility of a dog when I first got her. A lovely HUA volunteer took Bruna into her own home to socialize her after they first rescued her from the puppy mill she had been in almost 3 years. However, given that low-riders are STUBBORN and hard to train anyway!...and her definite lack of training after 3 years in a tiny cage, well....I have a little stinker on my hands, LOL.

Another thing that really doesn't surprise me about her. She's not typical when it comes to bed cuddling. She really doesn't know how to 'tunnel', not at all in fact. She doesn't smoosh right up next to me in bed and always ends up on top of the covers. I feel for her during the night and find her that way, and she is very cold, but I guess maybe she's used to extreme temperatures. So I pull her close, cover her up, she lets out a long, low groan and goes back to sleep, lol.

Jane

Growing up, my family bred, raised and sold standards. Although they are just about everything that the anti wienies say, I adore them. They are bull headed and manipulative. They can be very vididctive but we never had one that was destructive.

We had one little girl who had to be put in a luxury wire kennel when we left the house as she would unmake every bed in the house and if a closet door was cracked, she would get in the closet and haul every last pair of shoes under the bed. Nothing was chewed or destroyed but she had a ball protesting the fact that her humans had left her alone with other............dogs. Oh yes, every roll of toilett tissue was unrolled and strewn throughout the house.

They are not alone in their intelligence and propencity for protest. My young cat has discovered how to open all of the doors in the apartment now. First it was the front door but I now keep it locked at all times. Being a handicapped building, the doors have handles instead of knobs. It is much easier for those with arthritic hands. Easier for the critters too. He decided that if he could open an onlocked front door the bath and bedroom must be easier and they are. All he must do is leap up and bat the handle correctly and the door pops open. He does it on the first try and is so proud now. Since neutering and his hormone levels have dropped, he has stopped spraying the tub and the stereo but it will take time to rebuild trust on my part.

Often, the little beast will pop the doors open and then come back in the living room where he befongs. He just needs to demonstrate that he could get in the forbidden rooms if he chose to. Such a naughty lad. I am giving him a few drops of Rescue in his evening water so he doesn't feel obligated to climb up on top of the refrig. at night and swan dive down on top of me. I think we will make it.

Hugz to the wienies.

Jane

LOL ((Jane)) I LOVED your stories!

Doody 10-08-2008 06:24 PM

If you looked at some of the pictures of the folks that went to the weinie races, you may have noticed Jeau (the one with the crazy fur on top of the head, lol).

Well, Jeau lives with Telly, a most beautiful weiner who also was rescued by HUA. Telly's tale was so sad as he was paralyzed from the waist down when they rescued him. Anyway, a lovely family adopted him who have lots of other weinies including Telly.

Thought you might enjoy seeing Telly's wonderful new home and him having great fun.
.

Telly also has his own web site.
.
He is SO cute!

I am not surprised to read that you are having "potty problems". These weinies can be real creatures of habit..........good and bad. The bedtime ritual is a good case in point. Good grief. They are tunnelers by nature. If they need one and can't find one...........they make one.

I am certain that you have tried everything. Are you at home so you can put her on a schedule like a pup and then just gush all over her when she happens to get it right? Does she exhibit any other behaviors that are a result of the mill? Does your vet treat with any homeopathic preperations?

I bet there is an answer out there somewhere. Bless you for hanging in there with her. Sweet dreams.

Doody

I have followed Tellys story for a while now. I love the way he just falls asleep in his cart, when he is tired. He is an amazing dog, and so is his Fur mom. It takes a special person to take on special needs dogs.

Doody 10-16-2008 06:19 PM

Yes, that's so wonderful of you. Telly is an amazing baby and those people who adopted him well...bless their hearts for sure. Oh and she used to have a web site with lots of videos on it, I don't know what happened to that. Yes, it's cute when he goes part way into his cage and goes to sleep with his tush outside in his handicapped cart!

I saw your furbabies over at SOS! So beautiful! Just wanna kiss those little monkeys!
