Neuro Called Back

I heard back for the neuro this morning - He said he was afraid to tell me but yes it was another flare.... he had me do a few neuro test over the phone and I described to him what I was feeling.... L'Hermittes for sure!!

So, he is calling in a prescript for Predizone for 20 days. He wanted to do the IV but I can't afford it - he said he would do oral but is afraid it isn't going to work as well as the IV....

This will be my 3rd flare this year so far. :(

Has anyone had to buy Predizone with no insurance?

mbabic 10-01-2008 12:12 PM

I have not had to get prognizone without insurance. Are there prescription cards that you can purchase? Not sure if they could save you some money. Try looking at your phatm. first. Hope this helps.

sabimax 10-01-2008 12:14 PM

I had insurance...and sorry dont recall how much total was for the predinsone...I have some in cupboard..hehehe some in 20mg, 10mg, or 2mg..hehehehe ok I am teasing all..not selling drugs on line..heheee

good luck dear, hugsss,sarah

hollym 10-01-2008 12:21 PM

Prednisone is pretty cheap. Shouldn't cost that much.

Thanks Holly!! that makes me feel a little better....

ewizabeth 10-01-2008 12:32 PM

Hi Sarah,

I bet you can get this at Walmart for $4? Or call them to ask. I would think that it would be included in that plan, or maybe less than $4 since it's only 20 days worth? I hope it helps and that you'll feel better soon.

AfterMyNap 10-01-2008 12:44 PM

Aw, bummer, little Lambchop.:( But I'm glad you called it in and that you're going to treat it. Let's hope that you will kick this one swiftly and be a good girl & get plenty of rest.

I'm not afraid, your doc is a wimp.

"You're having an exacerbation."

Gee, I'm not dead or anything!;)

 LOL - he said "You are having another exacerbation" he didn't say flare - I said flare and I'm not afraid to admit -that my brain wasn't sure how to spell it!!!!

my arms are killing me today, my brain is NOT working, my face is in so much pain, my eyes are seeing double and I am freaking tired!

ok, I am heading for a nap now that I have all that off my chest!

dmplaura 10-01-2008 01:08 PM

You poor dear. L'Hermittes is the pits. So are the steroids, but what can you do?

I hope they work for you. I blame that freaking failure of a hurricane.

SallyC 10-01-2008 01:15 PM

I'll have you in my thoughts today Char.

Feel better soon, please..

yeahbut 10-01-2008 01:30 PM

$5.33 - I guess I can handle that one!!!

SandyC 10-01-2008 01:39 PM

Char, I hope the oral meds help. You have so much going on. Take it easy today and rest. Maybe I'll bug ya with a few texts on your new fancy phone. lol

hollym 10-01-2008 01:43 PM

You know you can even drink the solumedrol that they put in the IV. My neuro suggested that one time when my insurance wasn't going to cover the infusion. He said we could order the solumedrol into my pharmacy and I could mix it in some OJ and chug it.

ewizabeth 10-01-2008 02:04 PM

Doh!!! I called Lambchop Sarah!!! Sorry Sweetie. My brain is still in reboot mode after Monday's infusion. :o

You should see the mistake I made at work yesterday, double Doh!!! :Hum: I shipped one customer's package to another, then had to issue a call tag today to get it rerouted to the original customer. :o

Being the glass-half-full person I am (yeah, right), it is kind of a blessing that your neuro gives you info over the phone...I'm lucky to get a call back from my neuro:(
I hope that you're able to get some oral 'roids and that you rest and feel better soon:hug:

Kitty 10-01-2008 02:50 PM

Hope you feel better Char. I'm right behind you calling the Neuro. I'm afraid I'm in a exacerbation, too. Too bad we don't live closer.....we could suffer together!!

Feel better soon....and be careful if you have to drive anywhere. My vision does some pretty weird stuff when things around me are moving. :(

NurseNancy 10-01-2008 03:01 PM

sorry to hear about your flare char.
i'm glad the price was so low for the pred.

i hope you feel better soon.

barb02 10-01-2008 03:34 PM

Char, Hope the pred. helps. Take care!

weegot5kiz 10-01-2008 04:36 PM

Char I am glad he worked with you over the phone, that helps. I know you dont like the roids, neither do I and today, I asked for them, I know the roids can be a double edged sword, sometimes they do help so heres hoping and prayers that they work well for you and you feel better real soon:hug:

Blessings2You 10-01-2008 04:43 PM

You know I'm praying.

Gazelle 10-01-2008 05:24 PM

Riverwild 10-01-2008 05:28 PM

Glad to hear you finally got the call back!

Now take your steroids and git in bed! You know the drill...rest, rest, rest, take care of YOU!:hug::hug::hug::hug:

KarenMarie 10-01-2008 05:33 PM

Don't think it costs too much - actually had to buy it for my dog's ear infection - nope - she didn't have insurance - can't remember what it cost - but as I said - not too much - hope it helps -

MSacorn 10-01-2008 06:14 PM

Char
Hope the roids do the job and you're feeling better soon.

I've been putting off the roids myself, for several weeks now.

's

RedPenguins 10-02-2008 03:11 AM

Please heed Holly's words!!

Char -

I have to agree with Holly. When my doc screwed me over (sorry, that's what he did) last May...I ended up on prednisone pills - highdose - and it was AWFUL. However, I only ended up on the pills b/c it was a holiday weekend and I couldn't get anything else b/c the doc waited too long. Anyhow - the doc on call for him wanted to get me the liquid to swallow. He said it would be icky - but I'd be done with it in 4 days and NOT have the same side effects of the pills.

Something for you to consider... I know I would have much rather had the liquid to swallow even though I have a very strong gag reflex. And actually, the pills were horrific to swallow, too.

Are you on a dose pack of the prednisone or just plain pills? What dosage?

~Keri

CayoKay 10-02-2008 06:10 AM

oh Char... hang in there... you can do this, just keep your eye on the near future, when it will be over...

we'll hold your hands until it passes.

Dejibo 10-02-2008 07:54 AM

hope you feel better.

Its really upsetting to need a treatment, and not be able to afford it.

Jodylee 10-02-2008 09:07 AM

I'm so sorry you got that dreaded news 'exacerbation' that all of us despise. :(. I think asking your doc for solumedrol to drink might be a good idea as others have suggested. Feel better, Char

yeahbut 10-02-2008 09:37 AM

Thanks Everyone.... last night was a rough night but I took my first dose of roids this morning so it will only get better from here, RIGHT?

I am on the 4 day drop / 25 mlg each.

If this doesn't help I will talk to him about the Solumel. Thanks for the suggestion - I think?

SandyC 10-02-2008 10:07 AM

I never heard of the liquid form but that is awesome! Jim hasn't been on steroids in forever because he had too many. Now they are thinking about prednisone for him again. Not sure why since he feels good. I wonder of it's for his bladder or something since steroids have been known to heal other things?

No matter what I pray you'll feel better soon Char! Have a good day at school.

tovaxin_lab_rat 10-02-2008 05:02 PM

You just want to copy me right after your dx! Now you just stop this! No more exacerbations, Lambchop! Seriously, enough is enough!

I hope the oral pred helps you...hugs!

Koala77 10-02-2008 07:54 PM

I'm so sorry to read about the exacerbation dear Yabbit, but at the same time I'm glad the neuro called you back and you have some treatment ordered.

Yabbit,
Does your post indicate you are taking 4 25 mg pills a day? That's not a very high dose.

The last time I was on steroids was before I started Tysabri. I went on vacation with a giant bottle of 180 pills. They were 20 mg each and I had to take 30 pills twice a day for three days.

I didn't have the usual side effects with the pills that I have with the IVSM. I still did the Zantac 150s three times a day, had no trouble with stomach, no rages like with the IV Solumedrol, I slept normally and they seemed to do the job they were meant to do.

How are you feeling?

(I found out the the Tower is open until the 31st! You get a tour of the fort too, they are open 9a to 5p for the month of Oct.)

I decided I couldn't let you go through it by yourself - just wanted to be there for ya!!!

I am not feeling very good at all - actually have had a pretty rough day. I ended up falling coming in from the car tonight.

My legs are in so much pain and feel like they are going to go out from under me every step I take. This I have to admit is the worst I have ever felt. I am even going to call the neuro tomorrow and let them know. I know I have only had the first dose of Predizone but when I get to the point that I want to cry (and yes have done it a few times today) then it is time to call the neuro.

I feel like such a baby but jeese this is so very painful!

I am heading to bed and try to get some sleep. I even took a sleeping pill just to get some rest. Tomorrow is another rest day for me.

RW- you tell me that you can go on such and such day and I will be there!!!!!!!!! I sure would LOVE to be able to go this year. What pictures we could get! I am open on the 18th if you can go then????

18th works for me!!! It's lunch and the Tower, and the tour of the fort since it's included in the cost! We'll take our time!

You are NOT a baby for feeling bad when you are ill!

Please let us know what the neuro has to say. I'm glad that you have a rest day scheduled in. It truly does help.:hug::hug:

Oh cool - I am so excited!! That means we will be together two weekends in a row!! Oh boy!

tovaxin_lab_rat 10-04-2008 10:58 AM

Oral Pred made me feel crappy, period. I took it a couple of times after I'd had IVSM and swore I would never take it again. I know it works for some people but it never did for me. Just made me sick...and it didn't help at all.

I would think that you would qualify for some sort of assistance program since you are unemployed. What about through the school? I know our local college has an insurance program for students. Have you checked into that? It's pretty inexpensive.

Did you opt for COBRA when you left your job?

I know, too many questions...

If I had the extra money I would be right theah!

FG - my employer had less than 20 employee so he they didn't have to offer COBRA, so no to that one.

The community college I go to is so small they don't offer an insurance.

Am calling Monday to see about getting health insurance from the State.

I am pretty sure the steroids are not working yet except for making me NOT hungry and that terrible taste in my mouth.

FG, I think that was all your questions....

Riverwild 10-05-2008 12:55 AM

RE: insurance through the college-

I SWEAR if anything happens to my job I am signing up for classes with the state university system.

We checked the insurance out pretty thoroughly when the teen went. She is still covered under Dad for now, but they have a good selection of options and it wasn't that much per year.

If I remember correctly, they cover you as long as you are taking three or more credits per semester...isn't that one class most of the time? I have the latest offering letter somewhere in a pile of mail, I'll look for it and let you know what I find. It may be worth taking your classes through the U system for the insurance.
