My Neighbor's A Crook!!
OK.....well maybe not the kind of crook you see breaking into someone's house but he's dishonest nontheless.
I ordered some steaks and chicken from Omaha Steaks. They had a really good deal for $39 so I thought I'd give it a try. I got an email telling me when my package shipped and a link so that I could track it. I figured it would arrive either today or tomorrow so I never did check the tracking info. Well, this morning my neighbor rang my doorbell and said that the UPS driver had left my package at his house by mistake. I thanked him for letting me know and said that I would come over and get the package (he didn't bring it with him). Now, this man is older than I am (he's probably in his 70's) and I've always been taught to respect my elders but this guy is just a piece of work. He actually suggested to me that I call the company and tell them I never received the package. Then they would send out another one and we could split everything since we would be getting double. I couldn't believe he even had the nerve to suggest this.....and I told him that they could track the package and the UPS driver would tell them where he delivered it. Plus, I told him, it was dishonest. He started ranting about how these companies rip us off, the UPS driver should do his job right, they were stupid not to ask for a signature, blah, blah, blah....... I finally told him that I wasn't going to call the company......yes, the driver should have noticed that the house number he was delivering to was different but hey, we all make mistakes. I think he just wanted to gripe. He kept on and on and I finally told him I was expecting a phone call and had to get back home. I told him that I'd give him a steak or a chicken breast for all of his trouble (I didn't know what else to do!!) and he did have the decency not to accept it. My gosh....what is this world coming to? |
Geez Kelly...what a wonderful neighbor you have! Watching out for you like that! We should all have neighbors like that
NOT!!!! |

I've had my doubts about this guy......I think he might have some medical problems that have gone unaddressed. His son comes over about once a week and cuts the grass, etc. but other than that I never see anyone over there. I sort of feel sorry for him but now I'm finding it kind of hard. |
We've got an actual thief living down the street from me.
This lady lives right next door to my aunt (across the street from me) The thief just moved back into the neighborhood (she'd divorced her husband 2 1/2yrs ago, and I guess the reconciled recently) When she lived in the neighborhood before, my aunt noticed landscaping items disappearing from her yard. Then she noticed some vandalism (things that were too heavy for one person to steal were getting smashed) Then things started to disappear out of her garage. (my aunt has a bad habit of leaving the garage door open) One Easter, my aunt hid Easter eggs in her backyard, and she left baskets on her patio table. Right at her own back door. Little while later, she heard talking in the backyard. Looked out back, the neighbor and her grandkids were hunting easter eggs. In my aunt's backyard. Carrying the baskets that my aunt had set out on her patio table while waiting for her daughters and the one grandchild she had at the time. My aunt went out into the backyard and stared at this woman and she just stared back. No apology, no offer to return the baskets (my cousins had used those baskets every year since they were babies. Now the baskets are gone) I've never seen anyone as brazen as crazy neighbor thief is. She's been moved back into her ex-new-husband's house for about 2 weeks. Someone was in my aunt's house the other night (no proof it was neighbor lady) but it's starting to cause my aunt to feel like she's being stalked. Whoever it was, they went thru the open garage door. My aunt was at my house, in our front yard. Went went into my backyard for a minute to put away some chairs, came back up, and the nightlight in my aunt's garage that's a motion sensor light was on. You have to walk almost all the way into the garage to activate the light, and when she had her dog, a pug, the light couldnt pick up the dog, and she was larger than a cat, so we dont think the neighborhood stray cat set it off. My dad is thinking of putting video cameras up in our garage and backyard and at our front door. I want an extra camera on our house aimed at my aunt's house. All hooked up to a computer hard drive. I just have to figure out if there's a system out there that we can afford. Some neighbors can be irritating, cant they? |
I am surprised he even told you he received the pkg.
Id be watching that one. yikes! |

I know...me, too. I'm thinking he might have thought I saw it on his front porch. Maybe he was just "testing" me to see if I might be a good partner in crime. I was tempted to ask him "don't you see the police car parked in front of the house every night?"!! |
What a piece of work.

I live in kind of a high rent neighborhood. I am not water front but one step from it. The people down the street with actual real big wads of money in the bank SCARE me! They are always figuring out a scheme and a scam to get things that dont belong to them, and that they dont deserve! it makes me so angry!
i grew up with nuffin. I mean hungry, and holes in my clothes poverty. I learned to be honest, even if it meant you went to bed hungry. To not steal, even if you saw a nice pie on a window ledge. You just dont take what doesnt belong to you. Now we live in an age where people see shoplifting as a victimless crime. no face to it, just some high dollar insurance company to rip off. Then the rest of us have to pay higher prices because the store needs security and higher insurance premiums. I learned the basics in kindergarten. I guess some folks were absent that day. |

its a shame Kelly, too many are looking out for the me, not the us, hard to respect that elder, thats for sure.
|
All I can say "Oh man." That is my niece's favorite expression.
|
Wow, how scary to think that this man has reproduced in our society.
Kell, you might be wise to call your local UPS station and give them the heads up, the guy has shown his true colors and who's to say it really was mis-delivered? UPS has some pretty sophisticated systems in place, yes, they can make mistakes, but you may be wise just to let them know that this happened. Great way to meet the new neighbors, eh? Any missing pet posters in the neighborhood? |
thanks Amn I was thinking the same at least they could add him to his fraudulent files, in case this is a common practice by this sub human
|
Sheesh, Kelly. What a yucky ordeal for you, to have to go through. What a scoundrel.. *smack*
 |

You know......my UPS guy is really nice and I get quite a few things delivered so I have gotten to know him pretty well. He knows that heavier items I need help with and he will knock and then bring them inside for me. I have something ordered from Amazon and plan to talk to him when he delivers it. He'll remember if he delivered that particular pkg. to my house or my neighbors. The pkg. had dry ice in it so it was a little bulky. I wondered if it really had been mis-delivered, also, because I get numerous things delivered via UPS and it's always the same driver. Funny that this was the only thing that was mis-delivered. I think this man has some "issues" going on......:( |
ok that was my first thought Kelly, he took it, so now you call and let them know why you suspect he took it, cause the driver knows you well enough to know where you live, and also tell them what he suggested you do about a fraud complaint, I felt he might of been sub human enough to of stolen the package too
Sorry you met a sub human:hug: |
Make sure you check the box to be sure the company had the correct address on it.
Either way the guy is a real keeper trying to get you to split the box. What in the world? |
It sure is a shame people can't be as nice as everyone here in our MS neighborhood!! He sounds like a "winner" alright......NOT!!!! By the way, did you like your things from Omaha? I have some in my freezer that I'm just too weak/sore to stand up long enough to cook. Good old TV dinners in the microwave are the easiest for me. Now that I've ordered from Omaha, I'm besieged with literature snail mail style and phone calls regarding specials. NO, NO and NO!!! I'll order when and if I want some more!! Good luck with future packages, Kelly.

You can also call your UPS office and leave notice IF you are expecting a package, that its NOT ok to leave it anywhere but YOUR door.
In my old town the UPS guy was nuts! he frequently left MY packages several streets over. He left their packages with us. Our names were NOT similar. Our streets were NOT similar. still cant figure out how he kept doing that. One Christmas time the 23rd of Dec. I got a box FULL of Omaha steaks, chops, and chickens. It was HUGE! I was missing my box full of sporting equipment for my hubby's Christmas. Tired of getting UPS involved and it taking days, I drove over to the other guys house. introduced myself, and passed them the steaks. btw, when I called QVC they told me to keep the steaks with their compliments since I didnt order them, and they were dropped at my door. Also they would replace the steaks to the other customer, but AFTER the christmas holiday. I told QVC I would drive the steaks over myself. She told me that the customer has the right to refuse them since they are FOOD and QVC can no longer assure them the steaks have been handled properly and not tampered with. Here I am volunteering to take them and they tell me they have people tamper with them?! Anyway, the guy had a HUGE family reunion for his moms 100th birthday, and it would have been a bust with NO steaks to feed everyone. I swear his wife was weepy. They had been on the look out all day for those steaks and had already been told the replacements wouldnt be there for days. I was thrilled that my hubby didnt have to wait till after christmas for his hunting gear as well. All the children's gifts were in that box too. So, UPS guys can be nuts, but stealing is WRONG! that is how we got into the mess we are in financially in the US. Thinking no one is looking, its ok to take it. Good for you to do the right thing! |
Hey, Kell, still waiting for the sequel. Were you able to ask your regular driver about this?
I can't stop thinking about this charming neighbor, does he check out all your packages? Please stay as alert to him as possible, if he is capable of this crime, what other little tricks are in his bag? |
I haven't spoken to my driver yet. I think my Amazon order should be here next week sometime. I'm usually always home and can hear the truck when it comes...he usually turns around in the circle and parks right in front of my house.
The strange thing about this is that I hardly ever see this neighbor. And he's feeble and uses a cane so I find it hard to believe that he carted my package over to his house. I'm thinking it was left there by mistake. I must have been in the shower when the UPS guy came coz I didn't hear him. I'm still amazed that the guy even came to tell me he had my package..... Maybe he just wanted someone to talk to. I have NOT told Matt about this, either. That would generate eight million questions and probably a security system with lethal laser beams across the front porch!! I truly believe this man has some "issues" (medically speaking) and needs to be looked after more than he is right now. His son is over there once a week but I never see anyone else. I'd hate to see what the condition of his house is if nobody cleans it regularly. Maybe he was just hungry......I just worry too much about others............. |
What I think may have happened is he did come to your house but when he didn't get an answer he went to a neighbor. Sometimes they do this if it's a perishable item. You can request them to not leave the package with a neighbor in the future. It probably wont work if your regular driver takes a day off though.
On a side note, I hate UPS. I love my driver though when he doesn't take a day off! lol If he's not my regular driver it is guaranteed my packages will be left in front of my house and not by the door. That bugs the carp out of me because how hard is it to walk to my door? Once I check my mail I usually don't go out my garage which is in the front of my house. My front door is on the side. I cannot tell you how many times I have went out the next morning to find packages sitting out there. Sometimes they are Jim's meds. No matter how many times I protest, it still happens. My regular never does it, he always comes to my door. |
I wish the FedEx driver would ring my doorbell when he drops off my C.
I used to have a rather large dog (look at my avatar) that barked loudly, but was just a big baby. I think the FedEx guy must think I still have my dog (dog died in 2006) and he just quietly puts the box on the porch and then runs for his truck. I even asked the pharmacy to put a note on my box of C last time, telling the guy to ring the freaking doorbell, I found my C sitting in a chair, facing the sun (and the street!) the other day. One of the icepacks was melted. I'd been looking out the door all afternoon, watching for the box to magically appear. Instead he left it in the chair that I cant see from the door. It's been 2 1/2 yrs since I had my dog, and he's still scaring people. Just not the people I want to scare away. |

Can you leave a note on the door saying the RING BELL BEFORE LEAVING PACKAGES PLEASE! My ups guy hits the bell, and is headed back to his truck! I am NOT fast enough for this guy. I swear he is on speed. He drives like a maniac, and rush rush rush. I tell him I CANT get to the door that fast. We have watched out the window. DING DONG and he turns before his finger is off the button. My DH went out and had a chat with him, but it doesnt matter. Now the FedEx guy is great! he waits patiently till I get to him. |
