just wondering!

Thanks - they are a lot of work. you cut and then wire pieces together - then dip in white paint as a base, then spray paint colors, then paint by hand.

I think the craft (flowers) started out being cut from aluminum cans - then someone learned about sheets of aluminum that offset printers use. So I'd go visit offset printers and buy sheets of their used aluminum.

But I never see the flowers any more. I don't think anyone is making them.

I'm so ashamed, here are my aluminum flowers - you could say they are more of a "folk art" style. :o I think I need to step it up :)

Jean, what thickness is the best for the aluminum sheets? .011?

Jomar 10-07-2008 12:24 PM

I suggest wearing gloves when working with Aluminum.

I've read of some connections to Alzheimers and possible other connections.
I used to work in a manufacturing plant that used aluminum components - that's one reason I was looking for info about it yrs ago.

sandy - it's whatever thickness the offset printers use. I just use their "used" sheets -the ones they normally recycle.

copper flowers

I've given up making aluminum flowers. Instead I work with sheets of copper & brass to make flowers. It's pretty much the same set of skills. But with copper you don't have to paint - and I did learn to solder to hold the pieces together.

Funny...I was just debating whether or not to throw away all my patterns!! I learned the "art" at Ft Monmouth, NJ in the 70's. I made lots for other people, but only have a few for myself. I love the mini's!
