I am...

Joe The Plumber

and I am the winner at tonight's debate...

(not being political...just thought it was so funny...:ROTFLMAO: )

who moi 10-15-2008 10:36 PM

but seriously, and this is strictly a financial observation...

does anyone find it odd that we can dish out 700 billion dollars to help the financials (which I can understand why: we're the world leader in economy. We have to create the credits so the rest of the world will follow. If we crash, world economy crash...OK, that's fine...not perfect, I don't like it, but I understand it)

WHAT I find ODD, is the fact that we can give out 700 billion here and 110 billion to AIG but we cannot offer health care to EVERY SINGLE person in this country...

my father couldn't get insurance nor medicaid...I went to the DSS office more than 30 times to fight to get his medicaid. He paid taxes...

one of their excuses to me was that the budget was limited and that they can only have so many applicants and blah blah blah...

I worked three jobs and my mother worked two and we took care of him...

one month after he passed away, I got a letter in the mail saying he was approved for medicaid...this was after I've sent them his death certificate and told them to cancel all the paperwork...

THAT, baffles me....

PolarExpress 10-15-2008 10:47 PM

If I could come up with a good answer for that, I'd win a prize..My daughter's insurance info finally went thru and was in the mail today. She passed away a week ago. I'm seeing a sickening trend...

who moi 10-15-2008 11:03 PM

(((((PE)))))

I felt like a punch in the face when it happened...I was so angry...I went to the office and it was all I could do to NOT scream and yell at them...

I glanced around that office and saw a lot of angry people sitting and waiting...

and while I am sure there are a lot of caring people working on the "other side"

it bothered me...and you know what she told me when I told her about this?

She told me, "oh, well, the paperwork was already in progress, and there was nothing we could do."

I told her that I've got letters after letters that they've sent us that use more postage. Every week, we'd get a letter from them telling us why my dad was not approved.

I told her the amount of postage that they could've saved...I think about the thousands that they mail these useless letters out to...and that those money could be used to help others...it sickens me...

no, the system isn't perfect, there will be NO perfect systems...BUT, it COULD be better....

Amen to that..My mom has said many times that with all the money they waste on mailing useless paperwork, she could have what little raise they get in Social Security without the increase in what they take out for insurance..She usually ends up making less since the hike in insurance premiums is higher than the piddling amount they raise SS..

ewizabeth 10-15-2008 11:52 PM

DH and I pay nearly $900 a month for our insurance, not including our deductibles and expenses. Something has to be done. There are many that can't afford to pay what we pay so they go without. I hope that the new president will make it a priority to make insurance affordable. By the way, a tax credit will not do it for me or most others.

hey PE,

I think the bottom line is that they are covering their butts more than they are worried about ours...

but I must say that we, the people (well, some people. LOL) are partly to blame for some of this and it goes back to our system.

Somewhere along the line, somebody must have complained about not receiving notice and then it probably started a chain of complaints and lobbying and then, boom. We start getting junk mail from our gov't.

Somewhere along the line, somebody probably complained about something very minor and then it became the new clause and then that gets added and then more paperwork...

but the problem is that now all these stupid clauses and and laws get buried in all the political jargon and I really doubt ANY ONE law maker or lawyer can understand it all...and we have old rules and new rules all jumbled together.

and something as trivial as leaving something blank would actually start a chain of tags.

we learned very quickly that we have to write "N/A" on anything that we are supposed to leave "blank" and I can remember having something sent back to us because it was left blank...and that cost more time, money, and energy (our body)...

it just becomes ridiculous...and the problem is, EVERYBODY knows it and agrees! EVERYBODY agrees it is annoying and ridiculous...and that's where it stops....that we all say, yes, this sucks and it's ridiculous but what can we do...

I am asking this: HOW are we going to change all that?? We NEED to change it...somebody HAS to...period...no excuses!!

we can do better...much better...but it'll take people to stop complaining about every little thing as well...

just my humbled opinion...

I don't really like neither plans that's been proposed by either candidates myself...

but I am with you, wiz...the new President needs to address the affordable insurance issue and really, be flexible...

implement a plan and if it doesn't work, TRY something else...instead of implementing a plan and when it doesn't work, blame the OTHER party...

when something doesn't work, stop blaming the OTHER side and just make changes....how HARD is that??

well, apparently pretty hard....:thud:

if we can bail out people from AIG and let them spend half a million dollars partying at a hotel for ONE day...

we CAN make the insurance affordable for EVERYONE...

OK, I think I really need to hush before I get into trouble...LOL

I do miss those very clever AIG commercials, though...

"Joe the Plumber"..........twenty three times???.........Id rather put ice picks
thru my brain than hear "Joe the Plumber" again.

braingonebad 10-16-2008 07:43 AM

I was at the hospital last night so I only heard about this this morning. My husband made the comment that if Joe the plumber would be better off under McCain's tax deal, he must make 250K or better, and if that's the case, no wonder we can't afford to hire a plumber.

Who in Toledo makes 250K?

you were in the hospital?? Hope you are doing better, brainy. ((((HUGS))))

I don't know about the plumbers in your area but the plumbers here make a killing.

Almost all of them have a second or third business.

the average starting charge in our area is $85/hr and some of them even start at $125.00

that's even for them to just come out and look at what's wrong...

if they have to come for an emergency then it could get really outrageous.

a couple of them own billards and a lot of real estate...

Braingonebad, I live in Toledo & when ppl make 250K they get out of here. I would. But the thing is, if Joe's dream of a small business partly comes true then gets good, thus bigger, he's in too high of a tax bracket to not pay higher taxes, so he can forget that part of his dream. It appears he was saying; as long as he is not completely happy, he will get help.

Ahh, but can you fix a leak?:D

lor 10-17-2008 02:49 PM

NaeNae, JTP has been married 2 times & has a 13 yr old boy. It's him & son alone. Maybe he would indeed like to meet you http://bestsmileys.com/love1/4.gif

NaeNae 10-18-2008 01:39 AM

Remind me what did JTP look like again??? LOL

I can fix anything! I have duct tape!

lor 10-18-2008 09:38 AM

I'm sick of ______ too. They keep putting stuff on front page of the news paper (my FIL canceled his paper cuz it just has junk). He's even gunna be on TV (but will take no $ for anything). Up till now I think he was sick of it too & wants to be left alone -- wants no reporters at his house. So why TV?

whispers 10-18-2008 05:46 PM

Do we laugh? Or do we cry?

First off, I do want to tell those of you who finally, finally obtained benefits for a father, a daughter or other person in the family after they had passed away that I am so sorry. I can't begin to imagine how so very hurt and betrayed by the 'system' you must have felt.

For the longest time I thought 'ok, I am not rich, but I will do what others did. I will be very careful with the money I spend, I will pay my bills on time, I will borrow when I really need, usually for someone's dental or medical bill but not for something extravagant. Surely, this will be enough.'

Apparently, half of the country or the world like their day at the spa for any amount of money. What is 400,000 if they can get away with it? (I was told that that was canceled...Did some people finally get red in the face?)

Others buy homes they can't afford and many don't even have to prove that they are legal in this country. [Notice I said legal; I am ok wiht immigrants who followed the law and waited and worked hard to have the little house they have.] What I don't understand is that we can't even go for an MRI without showing proof of insurance and the driver's license!

How did the banks approved sub-prime loans for those who did not qualify?

I also found out by reading an article online that when we do not obtain results, we are to stop talking to the 'representatives', who basically only do paper work, and we ought to talk to the manager. In this country, apparently, only the manager can solve problems!

I seem to recall a time when people worked hard at their job and made decisions , took the initiative of checking with a superior if necessary. They learned and they worked! The system worked.
