The house may have already sold!
My house went on the market (officially) 4 hours ago. My realtor just left with a family that was relocated to this area and called on his cell phone a minute ago to tell me they were going to try and get a letter of preapproved financing by this afternoon! He says it shouldnt be a problem as they have great credit and their house in their old city has already sold. (apparently they have been renting here for a couple months) I hope it happens, as then we would have that worry out of the way, but if it sells then we would probably move sooner. If they get the letter of preapproval then we would probably accept the offer tomorrow. :( It makes me sad.
I have a knot in my stomach the size of New York! (Speaking of, James is in NY right now and said there are 2 houses that he's found that I would absolutely fall in love with.) The realtor there is going to send me a complete layout of the new house with pictures today. Its in our pricerange, and he said that the commute from the house would be next to nothing. (Its also within walking distance of a gradeschool, and a couple miles from the jr. high/high school) Well see. |
4 hours!!!!!
wow!!!! that in a slump of a housing crisis this is fantastic news! we have friends in laredo texas, they can't sell their house. So she is staying behind to raise four little ones (and home school them) and he is living in a rented room apart in Louisiana until they sell the house. It is really a hardship on this one income family. It will take some time to close and yoiu can put contingencys into place...but how exciting is all of this!!!!! bizi |
Weeeell, realtor called and said that they are approved for financing and their realtor will write it up and fax over an offer in the morning. He said they will pay asking price if we cover half of the closing. We'll take it if it goes through.

Bobi,
Things move quickly in your life. If I need something to happen fast, I will get you involved in the process. :D :D :D Mari |
ENTIRELY too quickly lol. James said that we can set the closing date to whatever we want it to be, so if this actually does happen tomorrow we'll do 45 days and get a moving company involved. HELL if I am packing up an entire house with 4 kids, a dog, and 2 ferrets by myself lol.
I got the pictures from the realtor lady in NY today. The one he thought I would love gave me the creeps just looking at it. It reminds me of the old colonial houses that have 20 ghosts and a crazy groundskeeper......i'll pass, even though Ive never seen it in person. The 2nd one was actually very cute. Its a tad bit smaller then the one we have now, but there were 5 bdrms instead of 4. (rooms were not as large as the ones we have now, but everyone would have their own.) It was a little bit further of a commute, but nothing to worry about. And it wasn't within walking distance of a school but the area sounded very nice from what my hubby said. If this actually happens tomorrow I will fly out and look at it soon. This is going to drive me to either drink or gain 30 pounds...... |
Bobi,
This is great news with the way the market is. I'm happy for you. befuddled2 |
Great news. And I'm glad there is something in New York that you
already have in mind. Donna |
Bobi,
Has your husband negotiated with the company to pay for packers? Having professionals do that job is wonderful. M. |
Yes. They will pay the moving expenses, packers, and a percent of the closing costs on the new home we buy. I'll take it! James said we just have to have the things in the proper rooms, and that is where they will unload them in the new house. (We will have to unpack them but thats fine with me) I already told him that I wont leave before Thanksgiving (we may not be able to have it at my house this year, but I will go to my mom's and cook there and we can meet at my parents) but we will definately be in NY for Christmas. At least we know there will be snow...
|
It sounds great.
Leave out stuff that you will want on the trip and for the first few days (week?!) you are at the new place or hotel with out the boxes yet -- a kitchen pan or two, set of silverware, stuff for sleeping . . . And Thanksgiving at your mother's sounds like a good way to say good-bye to the family. M. |
I am so amazed that this is working out so quickly for you family!
Wow! very happy for you.:) !!!!!!! bizi |
They made an offer. I signed the papers accepting it about an hour ago. The only bad thing is that they want to close on Nov. 28th to avoid paying another month's rent. So it looks like we will have to have the moving company do their thing, and then we will either stay with my parents for a couple weeks or just move right after Thanksgiving (if we have a house by then in NY)
James said the realtor relayed that the house that I liked has been on the market for 8 months and the sellers are very anxious to get it sold. He would like to just make an offer on it, but I don't want to do that until I've seen the house in person. There was also another house that she sent pictures of that I really liked. I guess I'm going to have to fly out for a couple days very soon. /sigh. Calgon take me away..... |
Wow, You could get that house at a bargain!
It is a buyers market for sure. I hope that you got to take a hot bath. you deserve some me time! bizi |
Dear Bobi,
You are doing great. You are right to see the house first. You need to feel the "vibe." Then you need to come tell us about it so that we can be excited for you. :) Mari |
Hoping you can get out there very soon to look at the houses.I agree you shouldn't let the hubby just make a bid.Donna
|
I'm home. :)
The house hubby wanted to bid on had foundation damage. We passed. The other house that I was interested in was perfect! 5 bedrooms, 2 fireplaces, HUGE kitchen, and the school they would attend seems great! When I mentioned what it is I do for a living the vice-principal was excited! (She has a daughter with autism!) We made an offer yesterday. Its a colonial style home with a loft. I'm pretty excited about it. Dreading the move, but excited about the house. We got such a great deal on it. Time to shower and recover from the plane. (i hate flying) Hope everyone is well. |
HOw exciting is all of that!!!!good news for sure!

Dear Bobi,
Good job on the house! :Dancing-Chilli: These are big chances The fire places and the big kitchen will help you make the house your home, your place. Mari |
Thanks Mari.
I am really excited about the kitchen! It is literally the size of our current living room with an island counter in the middle! I can't wait to cook in it. My husband is really excited about the fireplaces. He's already telling the kids that he will buy hotdogs and they can roast their own dinners a few times a month; as well as making smores. (he did that as a kid with his brother and really enjoyed it) I'm glad I'm so busy because it doesnt leave me enough time to dwell on the chaos. The kids are all wound for sound, and there is usually 1 or 2 that cries at night for a little while. Im to the point of just wanting to get it done. The house will be packed up and moved out in 2 weeks so we can have it clean and ready for the new owners before we sign, and then we will actually move the day after thanksgiving. Our stuff will stil be boxed, but will already be in the house when we get there, so packing and moving trucks are one less headache. It will work. |
please don't think that I am nutty
Hi,
I like the hot dog and smores ideas. Fireplaces can be wonderful ways to keep family. It feels chaotic. But the chaos is only about the stuff and the time table. If you are all together and mostly following normal day to day plans / habits/customs . . the children and you will feel safe. We moved up and down the east coast almost once a year until I was 12 and we did fine. Moving was one thing during my growing up that my mother could handle for some reason. I know as an adult if I eat close to the same foods when I am traveling as I do when I am at home, I feel ok. Same goes for sleeping times. Children are less set in their ways than adults, but even so, it is possible to maintain consistency in the middle of moving chaos. And this transition process is going to go on for a few weeks for them. I like your ways of putting out the pills in boxes that you mentioned in another thread. The whole group has established clear routines -- they know what to expect. Here are some links about moving with children from about.com. I'm not sure if they are helpful but they might give you an idea or two that you can modify to your liking. http://moving.about.com/od/movingwit..._kids_move.htm http://parentingteens.about.com/od/f...e/a/moving.htm http://www.nncc.org/Child.Dev/movenew.html Also, take care of your own needs. Visit your favorite clothing store one last time. Or favorite bakery. Or favorite place to walk. . . whatever it is that will help you feel more at peace. Or make floor plans and start drawing in where every thing will go. Let the kids start picking out paint colors for the future. You could even start planning a party for Christmas or New Years (this would be waaay too much for me, but I think you like planning.) When I moved out of my apartment to this new one after I got married 3 years ago I went to the old apartment after it had been cleaned. I cried and prayed and thanked it for nurturing for the 10 years or so I was there and suffering tremendously through my bipolar. Then I knocked on the door of a neighbor I had never met and gave her my washing machine card as it still had money on it. She said thanks and I drove off. It was a closure for me for that part of my life. Mari |
Thanks for the links!
They are actually quite helpful! Thats a great idea about visiting our favorite places. Hubby is going to buy them each a disposable camera when we visit them, and then we can have them developed and put in their rooms. I usually do like planning things, but this year I think CHristmas is going to be a quiet, family affair. I'm tired, and just dont have it in me to add more to my plate right now. We will probably just decorate the tree, cook up a storm, and enjoy the fireplace. |
That sounds like a perfect plan.
You can look forward to being together around the fireplace. We were also taught that we could come back sometime in the future and that good bye was not really good bye. M. |
Great news and unbelievable how fast it all happened, your so lucky with the way the things are now.
I lived on Long Island most of my life until we moved to Rhode Island as a teenager. Are you going upstate NY or LI or someplace else? I hope you love the house when you go to see it. Where do you live now? I know you said your scared, but it's a good scared I think. Moving is exciting and the same time stressful.:Head-Spin: That is great that all the packing will be done for you. Just mark the boxes for what room, and it will make it easier to unpack.:Dancing-Chilli: I am happy for you. It's nice to hear good news, and your happy.:yahoo: Good Luck......Hugs, Nikko:grouphug: |
