Pic of md and Alan and the 100 year old lady!!

Hi:
Thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing me and Alan taken at the party last week (on my birthday.

Oh the lady in between us is the 100 year old lady.

lol

Wow, I never thought I could insert a photo into one of these message board threads. How cool is this??

dlshaffer 11-08-2006 08:03 PM

Cool Picture

She sure looks good for 100. I have an aunt who is 97 and looks about 80. Nice picture of you and Alan, also. It is nice to put names to faces.

Diana:)

Silverlady 11-08-2006 10:31 PM

Wonderful!!

Melody and Alan, You both look great!! Amazing about the 100 year old lady. Doesn't look a day older than 60-65. Tell Alan, I'm impressed. And Melody you absolutely beautiful.

Billye

MelodyL 11-08-2006 11:37 PM

Well, aren't you a sweet potato!!!!

Thanks for your kind words.

Alan said to me, when he saw the pic, he said "where on earth did you get those apple cheeks?"" I burst out laughing. And I do not wear any face makeup. Just eye makeup and a little contouring on the side of my face. Kind of like a dark brown.

I have no idea why my cheeks were so rosy. Maybe the 100 year old lady was telling me an off color joke???????

Doesn't she look great? Imagine, getting to be 100 years old, going dancing and volunteering in homes for the elderly. At 100?????

I asked her what her secret was and she said "I have wonderful children and wonderful grandchildren"

I mean, she's only 41 years older than me!!!!!!

lordy, lord. I'll never make it another 41 years. I imagine we'll have our own personal flying machines that we'll just strap on and off we'll go.!!!!

What a hoot!!!!

Aussie99 11-09-2006 12:09 AM

Hi Mel

Thanks for posting thie picture. All 3 of you look great. Finally we see Alan!!! I agree it is very nice to be able to put faces to names.

Brian 11-09-2006 05:48 AM

Wow, she doesn't look 100 years old, i would have guessed low 80's roughly but not 100 no way.
I've remained good friends with my very first employer his 96 now, and he's still as sharp as a razor and only looks late 70's max, we might be able to set these two up for a date :D :D :D

MelodyL 11-09-2006 07:07 AM

I was teasing her during our conversation. I said "is there a special man in your life?" "I mean, someone is putting a smile on that face". She laughed and said "I don't need any men any more". I laughed out loud.

When I had arrived at the party, I, of course had been looking for a 100 year old lady in a wheelchair, walker (something!!).

Imagine when I come up to a lovely (smooth skinned) lady, all made up, wearing jewelry and talking about going dancing.

Makes me think I'll reach that age too.

Only if Alan learns to use the tv remote.

P.S. Alan kept telling me "that picture of me standing next to the 100 year old lady makes me look fat!! Show them the real me. I mean, you took a nice photo, blah blah. So Rocky wants you guys to see him as Rocky. Now if I could only get him to post here. Oh well, maybe someday.
So here he is after his workout at the gym.

Silverlady 11-09-2006 09:16 AM

Hate to encourage him anymore :)

Mel,
I'd wolf whistle if I could. No kidding he looks great.

Love,
Billye

MelodyL 11-09-2006 09:29 AM

Want to have a laugh. My Rocky once weighed almost 300 lbs. I have a picture on one of his old photo ID's. let's just say, HE LOOKS BETTER NOW!!!

I wish I had a scanner. I would show you.

It's absolutely amazing how the human body is capable of change.

Thank you for your nice words. I'll tell Rocky what you said.

Be well.

mrsD 11-09-2006 06:24 PM

great pics...

I am copying them now. Good resource for an Avatar and Profile pic update.
Doncha think?

I will send them back to you via email!

This new venue deserves a new picture for you, IMO!

MelodyL 11-09-2006 07:28 PM

Oh, I love you Mrs. D.

Alan actually told me "change your picture on the neuropathy boards" and I said "why on earth should I, I think I look perfectly fine" and he goes. "It doesn't look like you anymore".

I must be blind as a bat because I don't see anything different.

Mel

Aussie99 11-10-2006 01:07 AM

Brian 11-11-2006 01:21 AM

Thats a nice photo of you and your better half :) Dan, i hope your wife doesn't have to wear that soft neck brace for to long, there awfull to wear in the warmer months.
Where was that picture taken Dan ?, its a beautifull background.

MelodyL 11-11-2006 08:35 AM

Oh my god, how cute are you two!!!!!

Your wife is a honey, and I don't know if anyone told you but you look exactly like John Ingle who plays Edward Quartermain on General Hospital.

Quite dashing my young man.

Regards.

Melody

MelodyL 11-11-2006 08:42 AM

Whoo-Hoo!!!! I have a new avatar!!!

Thank you Mrs. D. I actually look (not half bad) for a 59 year old broad from Brooklyn.

I also saved Alan's muscleman picture and put it in as my profile picture.

I wish I could do the stuff you guys can do on a computer. I mean, I know how to operate a computer, and download and drag and drop and do really benign stuff but I don't have photoshop and for the life of me, I couldn't know how to resize anything or do pixel stuff.

But I'll learn, I'll learn.

Much appreciated.

Melody

P.S. And for all you computer people out there who love puzzles, and like to find out how stuff is done on a computer, boy do I have a treat for you.

Click on this link. When the lady is falling, and she gets stuck on the balls, or between them, take your mouse, hold down left mouse button, and drag and drop the lady between the balls.(Don't ask, just go there and do it, absolutely amazing)

mrsD 11-11-2006 09:36 AM

You look great...

Melody! Beautiful!

And the avatar really works on this board!

It does not take much computer smarts, just a program to work in.
I use Paint Shop Pro 9. Any good program will do it. There are even some
free ones. Paint.net is one. Somewhere here, I think on "computers" is a free
link to a photo program. It might be at OBT. There was at one time a free
sticky on all the places.
http://www.getpaint.net/

Here is the link to Paint.net. Some older computers may have to download a "fix" from Microsoft before it takes. A friend of mine had to do that.
The website now has it clearly marked at the download spot...which was NOT there a year or so ago! :p

You really do look stunning on your avatar here! REALLY...

P.S. there is an advertisement at that link above.... that has Paint Shop Pro 8 (which came as shareware with my computer here)
and it has really come down in price. The 8 version is less spiffy less professional, but easy to use and lots of fun. At $25 it is
alot for your money. The 8 version does not need high RAM like the 9 does either. Paint shop Pro 9 is a bit hard for me to handle
with all the "layers" and all! The Adobe Elements looks good too... so check those out.

Wait till you see me when I hit 60!!!

I'm really gonna be Gina then. Everybody should do something nutty when they hit a new decade.

For me, when I turn 60 next year, I'm gonna be a blond!!!

Alan thinks I have lost my marbles. Me? I think I finally found them!!!

lol

MelodyL 11-11-2006 10:35 AM

Mrs. D. I just downloaded Paint.net

Now let me ask you something. Is this the same as the PAINT thing on my computer? You know, when you go Programs - Accessories - then PAINT.

I clicked on PAINT and it doesn't look anything like the Paint.net thing I just downloaded.

I have absolutely no idea what I'll do with this Paint.net thing but I'll do with Paint.net exactly what I did when I got my first microwave oven (when I first married Alan 26 years ago). We bought the microwave, took it home, plugged it in, stared at it for five hours. Then Alan said "now what?" I said "well, let's start with a baked potato". I baked the potato and Alan said "wow, a $150 baked potato, what else does it do"???

So fast forward, I shall look at this paint.net thing, take a tutorial and MAKE A LOT OF BAKED POTATOES!!!!!

lol

mrsD 11-11-2006 11:10 AM

basic Paint...

comes from Microsoft with windows... it is very basic.

The Paint.net place is a more complete graphics program, designed by
some students at a university, using the Windows basic concept, of Paint.

They posted it on the net for free (like Firefox is) when the program was done.
And now there are even upgrades for it.

Basically for photos you want to manipulate pixels, to retouch, or to resize, etc.
Resizing is what I did for yours, so they would fit here. I retouched your old
avatar alot, to remove distortions and make it clearer. That is a bit more complex, but at 80 x 80 pixels, there are not that many. It does require a color educated eye tho. My art training does come in handy sometimes.
I did not need to retouch your photo for here, the new one. It looked pretty good(technically) as is...no distortions. It took about 10 seconds! Don't ask me how long the previous one took! Duh!

But many of the newer programs, have a one touch photo enhancement button, which cleans up photos with ONE click! The second one of Alan I sent you was done that way.

mrsD 11-11-2006 11:14 AM

Dan,

you and the wife look just great... a very well matched couple!

Thanks for posting!

Do you want a picture done too? I love doing them, just say the word. ;)

MelodyL 11-11-2006 12:09 PM

A color educated eye!!!

Like I even know what that is .....lol

by the way,did any of you click on the link with the balls and the lady falling through the balls.!!

I love this.

dlshaffer 11-11-2006 04:25 PM

Lady in the Balls

I just clicked on the link and I have never seen anything like this is my life. How funny:D

Melody, you are right about Dan looking like John Ingle who plays Edward Quartermain on General Hospital.

Your new picture looks great. Mrs. D did a good job, but then she had a great picture to begin with:cool:

I will look around for a recent picture of me to get on here.

Diana

MelodyL 11-11-2006 05:54 PM

Thanks for the kind words Diana!! Mrs. D. could even make Queen Elizabeth look less frumpy. Now that would be something to see!!!!

I would just like to know how they make the lady drop through the balls every time you drag her.

Whoever designed this website is top notch.

Mel

MelodyL 11-13-2006 01:05 AM

I love the user ID BOOPERS.

Make me think of Betty Boop!!

I'll tell Alan what you said. It will make his day.

Oh you'll never guess what happened to me tonight. My toes started buzzing!!!
now I was diagnosed with neuropathy about 7 months ago. I go to Cornell and I'm in their diabetic program. My blood sugar has been controlled for some time now. I've been a diabetic since I'm about 40.
I'm 59 now.

I never took it seriously until the past two years. While my eyes show no sign of diabetes (the eye guy is a diabetic specialist and he checks me all the time), I kind of thought I might get a pass with the neuropathy. Never really bothered me. Only the tips of my toes were a bit numb. I never knew that until the doc did the tuning fork thing.

Well, for some reason, tonight my toes were slightly buzzing. Ever so slightly. I told Alan, my toes are buzzing, he goes, well so are mine!!!! We've had rain on and off the whole day.

So I did to my calves what I do to Alan's calves, saying to myself "well, if massaging Alan's calves make him go to heaven, it might do the same to me." Well, I didn't like it. So I stopped the massage.

When I walk around I'm fine. As a matter of fact, I don't even notice it right now. It's just a slight annoyance. Never really thought about it.

But after seeing what Alan has gone through for 15 years, well, I'll tell you, I do not want to have the same experience. I am extremely determined to get my sugar even lower. It used to be 105 when I was on the Lantus amount of 36. Cornell changed it last month and now I take 30 (because my A1c was 6.0).

I go back on the 28th of November. They'll check my toes again. I know there's no cure and I have to be really careful about my blood sugar. I never cheat on my diet. I guess I have to exercise even more. Hopefully they won't go back up on the Lantus. I'm trying to eventually do without any insulin. Probably won't happen but I can try. That's my goal.

so be well, my dear BOOPERS!!!
