Another 'Remember?'

herekitty started that thread about "remember when" & that made me think of this...what are some commercials & jingles that you remember?

My dad would get upset cuz we kids would eat all the bananas before they were nice & ripe. Thats when I 'learned' this jingle from a Chiquita Banana commercial. That lady banana with the fruit in her turban sang ... "When they're flecked with brown and have a golden hue, bananas taste the best and are the best for you!"

And the Publix commercials at Thanksgiving and Christmas.....makes me cry every single time they come on. You'd think I'd learn..........

That Maxwell House commercials gets to me, too.

And the Christmas songs they play on the radio.....they really should give a "Mascara Alert" before they play those.....especially "The Christmas Shoes"......I just have to turn the radio off unless I'm by myself! :o

Parkay commercials, when the Parkay box was arguing with someone in Spanish if it was butter or "margarina"...

and a laundry commercial where an Asian couple owns a dry cleaner. The hubby had told a customer his secret for getting stains out was an "ancient Chinese secret."

The wife looks at the camera and grins, shakes some cleaner in a box, and says, "Ancient Chinese secret, Huh?"
This was after my boys had gotten obsessed with Star Wars...they thought she said, "Ancient Chinese Secret, Han..." so that was always a big joke in our family...

oldsteve 11-28-2008 04:47 AM

Imperial Margarine commercial. Where the dad takes a bite of toast with Imperial on it and trumpets start to blow and a crown appears on his head.

lor 11-28-2008 09:08 AM

The kids are causing a 'hard day' & the mom cries "Calgon take me away" Calgon was/is a water softener to put in your warm bath & soak in.
When my kids were little and they & the neighbor kids were arguing with the bully kid, they wouldn't calm down & I threw up my hands & said 'Calgon Take Me Away' (but I don't buy it really).

I don't mean to 'break all the fun' but....who said Josephine the plumber? Maybe thats kinda where the title "Joe the plumber" came from. But he is named Joe & he works for a plumbing business.??

Darlene 11-29-2008 12:48 AM

Josephine the Plumber - TVs favorite plumber was Josephine, the mascot and spokesperson for Comet Cleanser. Played by veteran actress Jane Withers, Josephine the plumber dressed in white workers overalls and freely gave advice to her customers on the best way to get stubborn stains from sinks and tubs. Of course, her recommended product was "Comet Cleanser." Comet is a tough cleanser with a no-scratch formula. It can be used on porcelain, stainless steel and fiberglass safely and it kills germs like Staph, Salmonella and Pseudomonas. And because Comet contains bleach it is ideal for cleaning toilets, sinks and tubs. Wow! no wonder Josephine likes this stuff. In 2001 Procter & Gamble Company sold their Comet Cleanser product line to Prestige Brands International.

Something just came to my mind when I heard an opera commercial of some sort. This commercial song is for Rice Krispies. The person sang it to the tune of a well known opera song.

We're out of Rice Krispies
We ran out of Rice Krispies
and my tears will not stop
till I hear snap, crackle & pop

lor 11-30-2008 07:04 PM

Hey, I just remembered something I heard yesterday while listening to the radio. Do you know what else you can hear Tony the Tiger singing (well, it happens to be the same guy that does the voice of Tony the Tiger) -- that Grinch song.....you know....You're a mean one Mr Grinch

AZjanie 11-30-2008 09:37 PM

You are right Melody; her name was Clara Peller and it was Wendy's.

I met her as she was the Grand Marshall in a parade in our town of 900 people in Iowa years ago at the height of her popularity.

She was there visiting family and was just thrilled to be in the parade.

She was just so sweet and really funny.
