User Names

A while back there was a fun thread about vanity plates, and what they say about the owner/driver. I was thinking how for MONTHS I'll think a user name says or represents something, only to find out that I was waaaaaaay off base.

Most are fairly obvious, but I always thought "Finlady" referred to something about fins, like fish or scuba-diving maybe. Turns out it stands for "finance" (right?)

I've been trying to figure out Roger's forever...is it pronounced ex-is-led? Does the xi stand for eleven? Eleven sleds? All of a sudden this morning I looked at it and it said "exiled". So Roger, what DOES it say???

Mine is one of the obvious ones, but what are some other user names (yours or somebody else's) that are mispronounced, misrepresented, misunderstood?

Kitty 11-27-2008 07:58 AM

Well, mine's pretty self-explanatory......http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f.../iluvcats3.gif

:D :D

Herekitty,
How many Cats do you have? I have 5. One more and I'll be an official cat lady.

As to Kicker - well at a very young age I kicked my family dentist and he suggested a pediatric dentist for me. (at the end of the appointment, good patients got a cheap toy), I loved him! I got lots of cheap toys. The other dentist told my mom to never bring me back. I got to return at 16 to first guy and every dentist since tells me what a great patient I am. My family called me Kicker

And at the picnic, my neighbor asked me to show him how to restrain (we were taught this at my job), Him being taller than teens I was used to, well, I really didn't mean to knee him between the legs, Our restraint technique was taught to us, approved by DYFS (Divsion of Youth and Family Services) and caused no hurt. It was like a big hug from the back, criss-crossing arms. Kid's liked it so much (some never got hugged) they'd act out to get it. We had to learn a new restraint not so huggy. Our kids (students) were one step from residential and we held them so they could not hurt others or themselves.

CayoKay 11-27-2008 09:29 AM

some have asked me if my username is supposed to be saying I'm OKAY.

lol, not really.... I haven't been OKAY since, oh, about 1988.

:p

all it means is, my name's Kay, and I live in Cayo.

Cayo is a district (like a state or province) in the Central American country of Belize.

Belize is a tiny independent country, sandwiched between Guatemala and Mexico, is English-speaking, has under 300,000 people, and the whole country is about the size of Massachusetts.

lady_express_44 11-27-2008 10:37 AM

Mine was never intended as a user name, it was just my an email address I chose and then decided to use as my user name for simplicity purposes.

I had no good ideas when I first started thinking about an email address, but as a joke I tried signing up for "hotfemale@hotmail.com", and got it! :p I couldn't believe someone hadn't thought of that already, but I had no intensions of using it either. Maybe it's worth something now though ... kinda' like some car tags or google web addresses are. :p

"Lady" identified my gender from the get-go, "express" identified that I like to say what I'm thinking, and "44" was my age at the time. I liked that it sounded a bit like a run-away train too. :D

I have used lady_express_44 EVERYWHERE, and refuse to post on a forum where I am not permitted to use it because it identifies my email address (or because I've been exiled from that site. ;) ). I have a pet peeve about people changing their user names, if they do it in order to conceal their "known" internet identity. You'd be surprised how many user names some people use, purely with the intent to harrass, intimidate or to bolster their own point of view on the forums.  I am who I am, where-ever I go . . . like it or lump it. :)

I have 2.....and that's all I can afford and/or handle!! Mine are totally spoiled and think they are human.

And truth be told.....I'd rather spend time with them than some of the people I've met in life! :p

SallyC 11-27-2008 12:16 PM

I started out as Salpal and that was me=sal and my dog=pal. When I went to the Plaintalk site, I changed to SallyC and stayed that way.

A girlfriend back in college said I reminded her of Abbie Hoffman and started calling me Free. The nickname stuck thru school, military, and thru all these years. And I live in Houston. Hence, free in hou. Used to be freeinmia and before that freeintol.

dmplaura 11-27-2008 02:37 PM

dmp = darkmoonprincess

(was my first ever Internet handle, back in oh, 1996?)

It was also what I named my first character in my Online game I've played for 6+ years. :)

A friend shortened it to simply 'dmp' within the first year that I was playing that game, and now many of my Online friends call me "dmp" instead of my real name, Laura.

Then again I didn't reveal my real name to people for a long time Online either ;).

doydie 11-27-2008 11:56 PM

My name is Joyce and when I was little I was called Joycie. My little brothers couldn't say that and called me Doydie. Of course they called my siter Norpy so I think I got the better name. Anyway, when I joined up in the great world wide web I have pretty much always used Doydie.

doxiemama 11-28-2008 12:04 AM

I've got a doxie, I love doxies and I'm a mama................

ewizabeth 11-28-2008 01:26 AM

I'm ewizabeth everywhere... :) My middle name is Elizabeth but that was never available way back when...

FaithS 11-28-2008 01:42 AM

My DD used to swim competetively, and a former email address for her was waterbug@something.com. I sometimes referred to my son as airbug, because he liked to do jumps on his dirt bike, and I became mamabug and DH techknowbug (because he "knows" alot about technology).

I feel like I've kind of outgrown my name, because DD is an adult living away from home, and DS is a senior in HS, also soon to be grown and moving away. But, being a parent has always been an important part of how I view myself.

I used to use "Suki" because of my older sister. Her name was Susan but everyone called her Suzy. I couldn't pronounce "Suzy" so I called her "Suki". When I used that name everyone was so surprised to learn that I wasn't Japanese!

weegot5kiz 11-28-2008 10:06 AM

on aol ages ago you could only have that many letters and someone had wegot5kids so I had to use my creative side

You win the prize. :) Yep. Old username from college. Couldn't find one with "finance" in it that wasn't already in use anywhere. had to shorten it all the way to "fin" before it would take.

KAOheim 11-28-2008 12:48 PM

KAO is my initials and heim is house in german, which is my ancestry. I have several variations of that name on other message boards but they're pretty similar. I use a completly different one on the local forums, just to be prudent.

tovaxin_lab_rat 11-28-2008 01:40 PM

Mine is pretty obvious - Av8r - pilot and girl - I am a female. I fly airplanes!!

Has nothing to do with taking a dump either :D

Although it's been asked before! LOL

I do like Gaztastic's Dimpled One references however, they can stay!

yeahbut 11-28-2008 08:15 PM

people always seem to think that I say "yeah but" all the time but I don't say it except when someone else says it I will repeat it!

I got it from my daughters - they would always say "Yeah But Mum" and I would say "No yeah buts around here" - it became a joke with us through the years. I got it on my license plate first, they loved it! Just has stuck since then.

Desinie 11-29-2008 01:49 AM

Mine's my real first name. My Mom made it up so, I haven't come across too many people who have it. Therefore, I use it. lol Plus, I do like it. My Mom said when she was pregnant with me she was looking up at the stars one night when the name came to her.

This is a fun thread! I love hearing how everyone came up with their screen names.

Koala77 11-29-2008 04:24 AM

I chose Koala because I wanted something that would identify me as Australian, and the 77 is both the year I was diagnosed, and the year my DD was born......(she was 6 months old when I was told I had MS).

sabimax 11-29-2008 06:18 AM

Not sure what people would think mine means or represents....but many here know...if not..here you go...

sabimax...was brought on many years ago...

sabi =sabrina

Oops! Just realized that I don't use "Mamabug" as my username on this board; I use FaithS. But, many people still know me as Mamabug from another board. And, my email address has mamabug in it.

Faith is my middle name. S is the first initial of my first name.

mom2five 11-29-2008 02:03 PM

Mine is easy - mom (my favorite job) 2 five (five kids, my joy)

It has been fun to read this thread! Great idea. :)

MrsBones 11-29-2008 07:28 PM

Mine came from my husband. He is a fire chief which means we go to a fair amount of award ceremonies, holiday parties, swearing in ceremonies, etc.

Well,he isn't very good with the social stuff. So when I started going to these events with him and we met his friends ( who call him "Bones"), he would say somethiing like, " This is my wife," and walk away. So the guys just started calling me Mrs. Bones.

It stuck.
