Dr John..Posting pictures

Dr John..I was wondering if you could make a change in the current format for posting pictures..For example if the source images are from "My Documents"..then an image link appears to view the pictures, and the only way around that is to go to "Photobucket" to post images without a link..The Braintalk software is set up to accomodate this..It would be alot more user friendly

I can upload any attachment to a post, and it shows up, no matter where it's coming from on my computer.

Are you asking for the images to show up without clicking on the link? What about people who are on slow Internet connections, do we want to slow them down with large images showing up automatically??

John

Chemar 11-13-2006 11:28 AM

Steve

if you want to upload an image direct from your computer you click on the lil paper clip icon and it will allow you to browse your computer and then upload

Thanks..Chemar answered my question..Thats what I was looking for and it was there the whole time..My bad.. :D

Thanks Chemar and Dr John!

Jomar 11-13-2006 12:52 PM

I had to try this -

well I still can't figure out how some can get the pictures to show.

OH OK it works with webshots too - just have to click on the picture a second time - then the posting options [IMG] will show for me. YEAH!

[IMG]http://thumb0.webshots.net/t/64/164/...0XiSbnA_th.jpg[/IMG]

Chemar 11-13-2006 01:42 PM

Jo
the images will only show if you have them hosted somewhere on the Internet (rather than just stored on your computer) and then use the imaging icon (lil yellow one with what looks loke a dot above a mountain, 5th from right in the bottom row) You then copy the URL of the hosted image into the lil box that shows upper left after you have clicked on the Image icon and voila! you have an image showing rather than attached

that is thoughtful

about the "slow loaders" consideration-- where I used to be! Some people still have dial-up if they live in rural areas.

We just got a modest speed DSL (not the really fast one) and it is sooooo much
better. (It was less than half in cost from our old Earthlink dialup!)

But you know too, the link thingy... does not work unless you are logged in.
That is a nice feature in the sense it affords some privacy on the net!

The other place shows one picture posted without a link, and if you put up
more than one, the others go into that link state, in one post, and you have to click on them.

You know , also with photobucket, all you need to do is put [img]link[/img]
on the link..and/or. Photobucket gives you that in a window, and all you need do
is copy/paste it--you don't even have to put the tags in, they do it for you.
The advantage to photobucket is that size and format may be different, than allowed here.

I have never used the link clip or mountain in the tools...I'll have to try those out! I just hit manage attachments, down below. Looks like it is the same thing.:o

Jomar 11-13-2006 02:14 PM

Someone told me about photobucket but I already had a webshots account so I did more investigating there.{clicking buttons!!}

and it worked

Easier than Photobucket

Chemar 11-13-2006 07:14 PM

ooooh
can I go for a ride on your boat Steve:)

that is a really nice picture!

loisba 11-13-2006 09:45 PM

Love the photo, Steve!! Tried to add one of mine, put couldn't figure it out. I'll read back over all of the instructions and try again some other time.
What I tried was click reply, then clicked on the little paperclip on the reply window. When that brought up another window, I clicked on browse to upload file from your computer, found the pic I wanted to upload, and told it to upload. It started, then seemed to get stuck part way through. I don't know what I was doing wrong. I've got dial up. Maybe the file was just too big? Oh well, as a nearly 60 granny, I think I'm doing pretty good to do the things I do manage to do.

Jomar 11-13-2006 11:04 PM

Lois - most pics are too big - they need to be resized to fit
suggested sizes are on this chart- in the attachments section-

Upload File from your Computer ----------------

Upload File from a URL-----------------

{ sorry these aren't lined up correctly}

Attachment Key
Filetype Max Filesize Max Width Max Height
bmp 19.5 KB 620 280
doc 19.5 KB - -
gif 19.5 KB 620 280
jpe 19.5 KB 620 280
jpeg 19.5 KB 620 280
jpg 97.7 KB - -
pdf 19.5 KB - -
png 19.5 KB 620 280
psd 19.5 KB - -
txt 19.5 KB - -
zip 97.7 KB - -

for the photos on my computer I use Microsoft photo editor, paint or Picasa2 from Google {a free download}.
{right click on a photo for -open with - choices}

but as the other posts mention - to have the photo show as open on the post instead of a link it needs to be on the web somewhere.

Yes..It could be the file size or type..Or the dial up..Sounds to me like it was the dial up..

Jomar 11-13-2006 11:21 PM

Steven where did you have your photos - that is easier than photobucket?

mine was on Webshots.com -but it posted it so small.
I didn't see anything about sizing there.

mrsD 11-14-2006 08:35 AM

some suggestions...

Lois, when you take pictures straight out of a digital camera, it might be
very large in size (pixels) depending on the resolution you set with the
camera to start. Newer models have choices, others not.

So with a huge size picture, there are size limits for posting on most forums like this.

I found this suggestion at another forum and tried it out and it is easy
and works well:
www.myimager.com

When you finish your resizing or other adjustments you right click on the finished product and save it back to your computer.
This site will make avatars for you and profile pictures for here.
Avatar size is 80px max any one side
Profile is 100px max. The resize feature is in the second tab at the top:
file. If you click manage attachments here below the posting typing box, it will tell you the maximum file sizes you can use. So you need to have your pic within those sizes and in those format types. Most pics are posted well as a .jpg or .gif

The larger picture is a baby hummingbird that sat on my clothesline this summer resting. He was attracted by a red clothespin that is out of the shot.
It is almost at the size maximum allowed here.
The smaller picture I made profile size at www.myimager.com as an
experiment. I just typed in 100px in the long width box and keep the
format button, and bingo there it is..easy!

I had them stored in "My Pictures"

Doody 11-14-2006 05:39 PM

When you post links from Photobucket, you have to do a little bit of editing in the URL but it's too hard for me to explain what exactly, lol.

When you copy and paste the URL into the little image box here, Photobucket usually adds a little extra something into the URL that has to be deleted in order for it to post properly.

Here's a pretty picture from my recent trip to South Carolina.

A view from the top of the Hunting Island lighthouse.

http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...6/100_1007.jpg

In order to post that URL I had to delete this portion from the URL for it to work properly: ?action=view&current=

Another view from the lighthouse.

http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...6/100_1005.jpg

Again, I had to delete this part of the URL: ?action=view&current=

And here is the mansion I want to buy in beautiful historic downtown Beaufort, South Carolina. It's only $2.5 million.

http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...6/100_0995.jpg

For that URL I had to delete 2 different sections: ?action=view&current= and this: &refPage=120&imgAnch=imgAnch135.

For Photobucket you kinda need to know what you're doing with the code in the URL.

Chemar 11-14-2006 06:06 PM

cool pics Doody :p

I post my pics here from photobucket without having to change anything.
I use the top URL under the pics and copy and paste it straight in the image box and submit and it seems to be fine

If the images are too large, I use the photobucket nifty editor to resize it to website compatible

Doody 11-14-2006 06:10 PM

Really!? I'll check that out then. I take the url straight from the url locator at the top of the page, so I'll try what you said! Thanks. And yes, their nifty editor for loading is very handy.

mrsD 11-15-2006 06:49 AM

I am enjoying..

all the wonderful pictures. This is one aspect of the net that I love.

Thanks for posting them, all!

Curious 11-15-2006 01:35 PM

i use the img tag from photobucket. just copy and paste it. no editing.

the little paper clip works easy to. :D

Doody 11-16-2006 04:36 PM

I don't know exactly what your are talking about, Monkey, I don't display those. It's not that much of a hassle for me to edit the code.

But I did find this interesting thing you could do with it. A 'clickable' thumbnail image.

This is just some walkway in Charleston that I liked.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...h_100_1119.jpg

I think most people enjoy seeing pictures rather than clicking on links to go see the picture. Of course I understand dialup lines are difficult, been there done that, but...there must be a way to keep images from displaying.

Chemar 11-16-2006 06:07 PM

I love your pics of Charleston, Doody

I was there about 10 years ago and really loved it!

This is where I originate from...beautiful Hout Bay Valley, near Cape Town, SA

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ttic/htbay.jpg

mrsD 11-16-2006 07:13 PM

OMGosh...

how beautiful is THAT?

Nothing like that here..or even approaching it!

You are really lucky Chemar to have had that place for a while!

LizaJane 11-23-2006 11:32 PM

just experimenting...

I haven't posted pictures or charts or anything before, so I'm just playing around here to see how to do it.

LizaJane 11-23-2006 11:40 PM

well, that didn't work

and I can't seem to edit it.trying again....http://lizajane.org/NeuronalAntibodyTests.htm

When I try to use the paperclip to upload a picture from my computer, it takes forever...okay, I think it worked....If all goes well, there should be a picture from my pc as well as something from a internet site..

LizaJane 11-23-2006 11:41 PM

nope

and the edit button doesn't work to edit or delete what I've jsut posted. sorry for 3 posts.

I'm not sure what went wrong.

hi LisaJane

edit/delete button seems to be working....i didnt edit or delete any of your posts, but used the moderator tools to go into them to check and all seems ok:confused:

and now let me test the photo function ........... seems to be working

mrsD 11-24-2006 10:53 AM

Liza...

When you edit or delete, don't forget to hit the "save" button. Or it won't take.;)

I use the manage attachments button below submit reply...you have to scroll down to see it. I think it is easier than the choices in the text box tools when making a post.

There are size limits here and format limits. I suggest you use jpg or gif for your pictures. The box that appears when you click on "manage attachments" gives those criteria.

LizaJane 11-24-2006 02:26 PM

trying again

1 Attachment(s)
Perhaps the photo was too large. I've resized it to be below 620 pixels wide. This time I'm going to try the manage attachments button as Mrs D suggested, rather than the paper clip, and see if that helps.

LizaJane 11-24-2006 02:29 PM

it worked

And now, trying with an excel page...doesn't work. changing it to text doesn't look right.

Is there any form that one can use for an excel sheet which can then be attached?

Wittesea 11-24-2006 06:05 PM

You have beautiful cats :)

The one on the left side in the picture looks a lot like my own... is yours a Maine Coon Cat?
