FYI - emergency microsoft update
here is a link from msnbc for an emergency fix for those that use internet explorer for thier browser.
mods please post this across forums if you can as a global announcemnet. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28258894 thank you .. roger. |
this is probably more important than most folks realized...
the best offense is the best defense. These MS patches are crucial and are usually found by volunteers that check the patches to keep MS honest. if folks don't have their MS autoupdates turned on. Please go to the MS site to run a test to see if it is secured... when folks talk about hackers, viruses, threats, our browsers make us more vulnerable than email these days....especiallyy since a lot of us are on high speed... thanks Roger, Roger that....:p |
here is the site to MS update. Very easy to use:
click on "express" and they'll do the work for you. :) http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate |
just my humbled opinion that this is crucial so I'll bump it before I leave...LOL

I had my updates turned off:p
for some reason i have to turn off my AV program for the updates to install correctly. But got it done this morning. thanks I'll copy this to the Social Chat forum, just to be sure more see it. |
jo...how do you do that? mine is stopping my updates too.
(ok you nasty hackers...stay away from my computer!) |
for a minute there I thought I was IN the twilight zone...
*rubbing eyes, I thought I was at social chat and this was in the puter forum... *poof, magic hands of the mods.... life's good again :) thanks for the bump |

it's a long list...open that and look for anything that resembles MS update in the path... if that is included, more than likely your AV has recognized that as an "intruder" you can delete that or move that to the "safe" zone.. it might also be in your anti-spy softwares... if all else fails, uninstall your AV/Anti-spy completely include removing them from your registry then, re-install them...(there are other ways but this is what I'd do first) |

To turn off my Zone Alarm I just click on the task bar, or is it the system tray?? icon for it and a little menu pops up where I can choose actions to do.
You have to turn it back on, or like with the MS updates you need to do a system restart so my ZA starts up again as usual. If yours doesn't have that option I think just open it and find the close or exit button - just while you get the updates. |
I am so glad I got rid of IE7 a while back. It was messing up my 'puter big time, even with its updated form:rolleyes:
I tried the IE8 and axed it immediately:eek: it did weird things to my OE and other stuff. I have IE6 back again and only use it for some applications that seem not to like Firefox but after years of being a loyal IE user....Firefox has become my default browser now. I hope everyone does this safety patch tho, even tho Microsoft are saying they are only aware of the vulnerability with IE7....better safe......... |
hehe - I decided to make a copy of the whole thread instead of only the first post.
|
:p there was only 1 post when i copied it. moi wasn't online yet.
you can blow mine up jo. :D push dat button! |
Firefox is great, although it doesn't work with everything out there, it is 98% friendly...
the other 2% I'd go with IE. I have to be honest...if one can upgrade to IE 7, it's better that they do that than staying with IE6 reason is that IE 6 has MORE vulnerabilities than IE 7 usually, when the patches are corrected, they'll be OK... IE 7 has taken it's lessons from Firefox so it is actually emulating the firefox browser...meaning it is following the leader... you know, monkey see, monkey do? (Every pun intended...) :p anyways, I am sure more experts will chime in and agree/disagree....LOL :grouphug: |

Firefox is my main browser and I only use IE if a site requires it.
I do have IE7 - but haven't used Outlook Express for years, so i don't know about any conflicts or problems betwenn the IE 7 & OE. I use the Thunderbird email program {ffree rom Mozilla also:)} It does have built in security features and spam/junk settings unlike OE. {unless they upgraded it in the last few years} If interested - more info- http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ |
