To MS or Not To MS
OK, so tell me WTH this is?? all of a sudden have sores...on my tongue, my throat, on my lower left lip and my chin...my left ear aches a bit and I have diarhea ( well, that could be the bourbon balls:D)
I thought the redness on my chin was just a pimple but it is not healing and hurts. My lower lip is like I bit it in my sleep and the tongue, too. The throat and ear....I have no idea. Could it be an MS attack of some weird kind or a bug or infection?? Anyone ever have this or want to venture a guess? :grouphug: |
That's really weird, Sally.
Must be some sort of nasty Christmas bug making the rounds. And of course YOU would get it! Sorry about that, friend. :( Hope you have a joyful day tomorrow, just the same! |
Maybe canker sores. Are they kinda raised?
If so, there are lots of home remedies on the web for them. I get an rx for my daughter when she gets them, but most people just treat them with salt directly, salt washes, hydrogen peroxide (DON'T SWALLOW, just dab). You could look up what the directions are for canker sores, and try anyway. I used to get canker sores AND cold sores at the same time. Cherie |
aw, Sally, that's perfectly horrid !!
 hope it clears up pronto. |
Is it possible you could be having an allergic reaction to something - meds or food perhaps? I hope whatever it is goes away fast so you can enjoy your Christmas.

Ooooh, Sally, that sounds just perfectly rotten. (well, at least you get to be perfect, right??) :p
Hope they heal and don't hurt for too long. I can somewhat relate - my face is SOOOO broken out from the steroids. I look worse than a pizza - I've never had acne like this before. ~Keri |

I got a cluster of what I thought were cankersores in my throat. Turned out to last about 7-10 days, and I guess it was some weird viral infection, because strep and yeast came back negative.
The closest I could find to what I experienced is called Herpangina. I had the sores and wicked sore throat (ate lots of soup!) but no fever. Herpangina on Wikipedia I now have a HUGE, and I do mean HUGE solitary sore in the back of my throat on the right side. It's growing daily. I've been dousing it with Anbesol, but I'm about to start the salt and warm water treatment. If it doesn't go down in size, I'll be going in to get it burnt off with silver nitrate. Won't be the first time I've had to have a canker sore burnt off. |
Geez Sally that sounds awful. I hope you find out what it is soon!
 |
Dang Sally girl, who have you been kissing?
I would get myself to the Doc. Like pronto-pup! |

But also, the sores on the tongue...have you been eating a lot of sugar lately? When I eat too much sugary foods, I get what I call "sugar blisters" on my tongue...kind of like the sugar might have caused a little "burn" or something. (I have no idea if those are actual burns, or maybe just little ulcers caused by too much sugar intake) The ear pain, I have no idea, and whatever's on your chin...no clue there either. Maybe you should go to the doctor tomorrow and get them checked out, just to make sure you dont have Y. Pestis (The Plague! also known as the Black Death of Europe!:rolleyes:) or something else. |
sounds like a bad outbreak of cold sores, or herpes simplex.
do you have a hx of cold sores? if it is, it's viral. since it's so extensive it also sounds like you need an antiviral med like valtrex. i'd call your dr first thing in the am. make sure you don't kiss anyone. don't share any glassware etc and put dishes in the dishwasher. it's contagious if someone else comes in contact with it. i'm not positive, so checking with your dr would be important. could come from stress. it's also possible that it's immune related. i used to get cold sores a lot and i take valtrex daily. i havn't had any problems since. |
Sally did you just go to the dentist? Just a question for my brain to think about.
I had a similar problem. Red sores in the back of my mouth, two on the sides, it hurt to swallow. One pimple on my nose and one on my chin. I am WAY over the age to get pimples, so this struck me as strange. None on the lip. My PCP and Neuro didn't have a clue. My ENT didn't either. Maybe something going around. I had the diarrhea after the fact also. I do not know if any of this is connected to each other or a really close similarity to yours, but I think it is bacterial. Not an Anti-B bacterial type. IMO What I did: I brush my teeth three times a day. I starting using GLY-OXIDE 1/2 fl oz., as an oral rinse. I swooshed a bit (one bottle squeeze) around my whole mouth, for a few minutes. It is gentle. It has a mild peroxide (to debride) in it, mixed with a mild wound healer. You spit it out and rinse once with a tiny bit of water so not to swallow the stuff. :) When I went to bed and in the morning, I put a dab on my finger and put it on the pimple on my nose and chin. BTW, they were a bit itchy I don't know why. But they all went away. Whether they would have gone away on their own, or not, I don't know. I saw improvement within one or two days inside and out the mouth. I hope you find something that helps or buy this OTC stuff in the toothpaste isle. Lady |
Lady, that makes the most sense of all, thanks..:)
I am going to get some of that Gly-oxide ASAP and see if it helps. I have been putting campho-pheneke on the outside sores but can't use that internally. This bacteria is just not going away anytime soon, so I need to do something. Why is it always a Holiday when this stuff happens:mad: Thanks so much. |
Sally, I find I always need a script refill, to talk to one of my Dr's, or see one for treatment and it is either a weekend or a Holiday. It never fails. I seem to be always saying, "I'll have to wait until Monday to call".
It is good we can bounce things off each other, or see who had the same or close to our problem.:) We all learn something everyday. :) Lady |
I hope they go away real soon Sally and you feel better:hug:
|
How you doing today,Sally?

:)

I haven't been able to get to the store for some of the Gly-oxide but had a little paroxide, so rinsed with that and warm water...it helped. |
I'm glad it's a bit better. Maybe it'll just run it's course and go away. I hope so. Hang in there.
|
Sounds like an allergy to me. Jim had thrush from bactrim once and it was like what you are describing minus the lip sores. Do you think it's the bourban balls? lol Maybe I should try one and see what happens to me. You got them from the same place I did right? What we wont do for our friends. :D
|
:hug:Oh Sally I'm glad whatever it is, it's getting a little bit better.
|
Just to let you know I'm thinking of you and hope all those nasty things are going away! Nah -- it's probably not the bourbon balls!!
Take care..........:) |
DD brought me Oragel today. It's much like Gly-oxide, which she couldn't find. I've used it a couple of times today and it seems to be helping. I am not 100%, but much better than I was.
Thanks a bunch for all your help and your kind thoughts..:grouphug: |
I am glad it's getting better Sally. :) If in the future you need it, Walgreen's has it, as pictured below. It is a box, with a little bottle in it. Use a few drops.

glad you're feeling better, Sally... and hope it clears up totally... like, really swiftly!
I had a running battle with coldsores (Herpes Simplex I) for many years... my doctor prescribed Acyclovir, that cleared the sores up, and then, they stopped coming (for some odd reason) after a couple of years on a daily dose. I also had a few bouts with oral thrush, and sometimes, BOTH thrush and coldsores at once. as to "why at the holidays" well, that's when I *always* got mouth and face sores, my doc said it's the stress, lowers your immune system, and your ability to fight off yeasts and viruses... since I had little kids at the time, I used Baby Orajel, and that helped. |
I'm sorry that you have to deal with all of this Sally - that sounds nasty!
As you know, I don't have MS but my nanan had Progressive MS. She used to get some of the symptoms you are describing and all of the doctors were baffled by them and didn't know what they were so in the end, they said that they were just "extreme pressure-sores". We never really got an answer to whether they definitely were pressure sores or not but I think that because the doctors hadn't seen them before, they just put it down to being them!! My nanan had some pretty bad ones on her tongue, my mum said they used to look like lesions and it made eating really hard for her because her tongue would hurt a lot. I hope you get some answers soon and i'm sorry that I can't help you that much - just wanted to let you know that my nanan had similar problems too though! |
It almost sounds like Coxsackie Virus...my children have had it , just
not sure adults can get it:confused:. You should google it...it really sound like what this is. feel better Sal :hug: |

I really think it's just canker sores, since the sores are on the outside of the mouth, too....and they are healing with the Orajel. I think Ali hit the nail on thead....STRESS!!! My worst enemy!! |

I really love you Sal....your reply made my day.:D whatever this is I hope it is gone soon. I get a rash at the corner of my mouth on my right side(although its not sores)...that Im convinced is my stress rash. |
