Avatars

Hey - For anyone who remembers the ole BrainTalk Community. Have you noticed that more of us here are using Avatars than on the old site? I think it is great. Wether it is a pic of ourselves, a favorite pet or what have you, it is a representation of what we love, who we are, etc. I think it is great. Lets encourage more folks to add a Avatar. I have an idea. Lets be the first forum to completely have every memmer use a Avatar. Or close to it anyway. Of course we cannot force anyone to use one.

That wouldn't be right. But maybe if they see more and more folks using them they will jump on board. If you all need one of my BEAUTIFUL SELF PICS I WILL BE HAPPY TO SHARE! :D :D

Sit Up Straight! Look Into The Camera! Chin Up! Smile! :)

Mark :)

LisaM 11-20-2006 03:04 PM

Oh well then...

This is my beaglebaby; rescue dog, called Apple - I didn't name her, but the name works well in Chinese (Ah Poo is a cute Chinese name - not so great in English, I admit!), a "good feng shui" name...so I kept it. And she was named well before Gwyneth Paltrow's baby...

Roz (and anyone) - if you want me to process a pic of you to size, PM me and I'll send you my email addy...

all the best!

Liz,
*LOL* oh my GOSH....Angie Dickinson type blond!!?? I feel ahhhh ummmmmm let me see, honored as I think that is a compliment??? *ROFL* ahahahahahahahahaha Ilove it, but to be absolutely honest with you, I was born a blond my Mom told me. I had such light eyebrows she use to say that she doubted anyone would ever see them unless I darkened them. So I can say I was born a blond who turned into a brownette????!!!!!

Thank you....and yup those little boys are the cutest ever................

DebbyV

liz,
do you like giraffe's??? I think it looks like a giraffe. Isn't it?? Yes I enlarged my page....I ABSOLUTELY LOVE GIRAFFES..I even have around my license plate, BIG TIME GIRAFFE LOVER. This Rocks!!!!

I am so happy we are doing this! It adds ownership to our forum don't you all agree? I have a question to "Farm Wife"?? What is your little babies name? She is a beauty!!! Since we are showing pics of are children I am attaching a pic of mine! Her name is Roxie. She is 10 now but acts like she is a puppy!! :p :p It is actually a interesting story behind me getting her.

When I lived in Atlanta 7 years ago she lived next door to me. She was three and was beating terribly by her owners. I tried everything to get her from them including buying her and they wouldn't do it (out of spite I'm sure). So on the morning I was leaving I had my U-Haul all packed and ready to go. It was about 4:30AM. I saw her standing out on the street on the other side of the truck so I reached over and opened the door. I just looked at her and said well if your coming get in! She didn't give it a second thought.

She has been with me ever since and I absolutely adore and love her with all my heart. And I hope those people back in Atlanta never so much as ever get their hands on a cockroach to raise as a pet again.!!!!

Chin Up! And please keep those Avatars coming. If you do not know how one of us will be happy to help you.

Love Mark xoxo

P.S. I know this is a little off the Neuro topics but I have been dabbling with some pics I took this summer and wanted you all to see if you think they are worthy of framing before I waste my money. Be honest. I'm not gonna cry. Hey, if you like any, you can copy. I don't mind! :)

jcherry 11-21-2006 01:13 PM

Mark, what a beautiful baby you have, and that was great rescuing her from abusive owners. I don't understand why people get pets if they are only going to abuse them.

Hey about the avatars, if I send you a pic can you enlarge it so I can use it as my avatar? I don't know how to enlarge it and it is like thumbnail size and you can't see it..LOL

I love all of the pics of people on here because it gives you a face to go with that great person that we communicate with daily.

Have a great day,
Janet

ATallOne 11-21-2006 01:19 PM

yes

Just remember. The maximum size is 620X280 in pixels for attachments.

Avatars are 80X80 in pixels. Thats not real big, but if graphics were too large it would bog down the server and the entire site would become sluggish.

Bring er on!!!

Mark :)

LisaM 11-21-2006 03:24 PM

Hey! I have 5 fur babies, a reptile baby, a teen baby, and a big boy baby. How in the heck do I choose which one of those to use as my avatar???? That's not fair! Not fair at ALL! If I had to make a collage out of them, they'd be so itty bitty you'd not be able to see any of them *sniffle*!

Curious 11-21-2006 03:36 PM

keep switching them, lisa...baby of the week. :D

ATallOne 11-21-2006 03:39 PM

Hey LisaM?????

Why not rotate them? Yeh that's it. That's the ticket!!! Put one up for a month, than another for a month and so on and so on and so forth and blah blah blah!!!! :D :D :D

Gosh!! Wouldn't it be great if laughing could take the place of meds! Heck I would already be flushing!!!!

Chins Up!!!!

Caution: Grandmother With Pictures

since i'm assuming that most have seen my giraffe cane, i'll switch avatars....we seem to be doing pets right now, so i'll show off my trouper first.....i like the idea of revolving avatars.....just wait till i start on the grandsons!.....and that'll be easy with the triplets....i'll just post one pic and then every now and then, tell all of u that it's a different kid!

trouper was also a rescue dog.....he was abandoned as a 6-month old puppy....i hate thinking about that happening to him, but whoever the bums were, they did me a favor.....he's the best dog in the world.......sorry, all of u who have been thinking that YOU had the best dog, but the truth is that i do!

frogga 11-21-2006 06:56 PM

wow trouper is gorge.. I (hopefully) have a pic of baby girl up... she is so gorgeous and my darling.. she was a rescue dog 2 years ago and along with her bro moved in with us... (the adoption team were not pleased.... 2 alsations, 1 wheelchair user and 2 women - all under 5"2ft AND with 5 cats... but we got them!

lost fat pig to cancer, but still have Baby... when she first came she cowered everytime you went near her, howled constantly, peeed EVERYWHERE and had never been in a house before..

...but now is perfectly happy sleeping on my sisters bed with her, owns her very own pink jumper, red polo neck, black dress, hat and army jacket and leg warmers and is attached to my sister at the hip..

Rxxxx

(this thread is cheering me up = having a horrible time atm)

ATallOne 11-21-2006 07:07 PM

Trouper Rocks

What a beauty Trouper is Liz! You should be very poud! I just love stories of rescuing animals from mean people. I watch Animal Planet with my Roxie and my two other children Buffy and Q-Tip, both are adorable little felines and a little camera shy

And Frogga what a beautiful one you have there. Wow!!! So happy to know that this thread is helping to keep your spirits up when you are feeling kinda down. That was sorta the intent along with "marking our territory" :)

Mark :)

AnnaBananaBean 11-22-2006 12:09 AM

Well, my avatar doesnt really have a special story behind it... its just a plain ol picture of me haha

buuuuut since we seem to be talking about pets i feel the need to add my imput haha. I have two amazing dogs, and a few not so amazing cats. I'm actually pretty allergic to cats, but my sister got so attachted to them that when we found out i was allergic it would have been cruel to make them leave. My older dog, Mazy, is a black lab doberman german wirehaired pointer mix. Shes 11 and has epilepsy and cataracts and about 1,000 fatty tumors. She's senile, but we still love her. She was beaten by her previous owners when she was just a puppy, and then she devolped Mange, which is a parasite that makes all the hair fall out on your body. So we adopted a whimpering poor bald little puppy (but shes hairy and fat now, so dont feel tooooo bad) And then I also have a 2 year old Shih-Tzu/Poodle Mix, Lola. Shes a pain in the butt, but she has a little underbite that sticks out whenever she looks at you, so you cant be mad at her even if she did just eat your $170 Coach Tennis Shoes that you got as a Christmas present...........

Oh, and Mark. your photos are AMAZING. the first flower (is taht a lily of some sort?) is BREATHTAKING. I'm an amateur photographer myself, and i would die to be able to have access to beautiful flowers like that to take pictures of. I did however take soem pretty interesting pictures of dead trees today..... but i bet as soon as i go into the dark room they turn out icky hahaha

Anna

Farm Wife 11-22-2006 07:27 AM

Mark you have a beautiful chow chow. they all make our lives a little more bearable don't they?
my girl is named iley. (like riley but without the r) we purchased her from some wonderful people who live north of us. after having to put my wonderful lab/golden mix down due to cancer earlier this year, my hubby decided he wanted another gsd on the farm. i still cry when i think of my other girl. she was the absolute best dog i have ever had. if iley turns out to be half as good i will be thrilled
i also have a 20 yr old cat. he's starting to slow down a bit now and tends to wheeze a little bit once in a while, but otherwise in pretty good shape.
frogga you have a very pretty alsatian. i'll bet she's a lot like my iley.
liz, your pup is a cutie. just keep himi away from the skunks. artist, is yours a beagle? he looks very content and probably rules the roost at your house.

i love all the avatars. but please excuse me if i messed things up. i'm not sleeping well and am ready to tear this cast off with my teeth if necessary. i don't know if i can stand 5 1/2 more weeks of this. i feel so cllaustorphobic !!!

hugs and prayers

frogga 11-22-2006 09:16 AM

hey farmwife

could you not have the cast split and then bandaged? thats what they do with mine? then I wear it as long as possible, take it off have a break and then it goes back on (although recently we have come to the conclusoin that casting is not good... - I used to have serial castings done).

Iley is gorge! baby girl/booboo (real name is Judy) is just such a baby... have to go home from uni this week - will try and get a better picture of her all dressed up in her hoodie and leg warmers (I know.. how anthropomorphic am I towards her?!) she is so nice when you are really sore... comes and lyes with you and stuff...

also have 5 cats (fred, tom, gaz, pussycat willum and isabel) and a bijon frise (alphred)...

LOL take care

Rxxxx

what is it about us that means we all rescue our animals? some weird mix with RSD? lol - intersting psychological view point - we all want to be "rescued" and feel that to restore karma to manage it we "rescue" things that we can? suggest an altruistic nature to people? lol. (i know im talking rubbish.. things are pretty bad atm for me).

Farm Wife 11-22-2006 09:41 AM

i didn't rescue iley. my other girl, fuzzy, was kind of rescued. she and her sister were the last 2 pups out of an accidental litter. if i didn't take her she would have been "disposed of" she was incredible. looked like a flat coated retriever. so smart. she learned how to work the cows with hubby. (and she was all retriever) her passing was so very traumatic for me.
iley, on the other hand, is a show dog. but we don't show her. her sister is doing very very well on the circuit. we just love her as our companion and pet. i just didn't feel i could cope without the health guarantee. i know things can still go wrong but i have my fingers crossed.
i forgot all about spare kitty. because we are out in the country, city people often dump unwanted pets that end up on our doorstep. dogs don't stick around long cause we have a no kill shelter that i can take them to. cats on the other hand will stay. i feed htem until i can find a home for them. spare kitty however gets to live here because iley just loves him. they play together really well taking turns chasing each other etc. spare kitty also likes to wrap his front legs around her ruff and then give her kisses.

the cast is solid and must remain that way. it's a long story, but between the location of the break and bad bones i'm stuck with it for a while longer. lucky me.

hugs and prayers

Okay, I think I got one

Boy, I love all my babies so much it's hard to decide which to pick first. But...I decided to be whacky, so I chose my Tucker, since he's the whackiest pup I have.

Tucker is our Golden Retriever. He's my "baby." Now...you may think I named him Tucker cuz it's a good name for a Golden...but that's not it. See, when I met the breeder he brought all the male pups to me and Tucker is the one who kept leaving thebunch and running towards me, so he's the one i chose to come home w/me. On the ride home, he didn't want to sit in the passenger seat, or sit nicely in my lap. He wanted to tuck his head into my armpit - and he did so, and slept the entire 1.5 hr ride home...hence the name...TUCKER :)

As you can see in my avatar, he also will allow you to do pretty much anything to him. In this case, he let us put sunglasses on him. He was only a baby in this picture but it's so cute I just HAD to post it. He's the one we pull out when we're in a yucky mood cuz he just does such FUNNY stuff. Tucker is ALWAYS happy. Well, they all are, really. We love them all so much.

Here are pics of my other fur babies, too. They all have their own little personalities...*but let me explain...when I met my SO, i had 3 male fur babies, and he had 3 female fur babies...then we moved in together, so we had kind of a 4-legged furry brady bunch going on. But then I lost my precious baby Riley (who was also a golden) to epilepsy. He was my sweetheart, and I miss him horribly...so now we have 5.

Now I will introduce you to my clan...

First, there is my black lab, Josie. If any of you get a chance to read the book "Marley and Me" - do it! It's the bestest book EVER for dog lovers, and the dog in that book is a yellow lab with the exact same personality as Josie. she's a "lover" and a very FINE specimine of a lab. She's a purebred with papers (like Tucker and our Bailey, who I will get to in a moment as well). She's very muscular and her coat is very shiney. She has not an ounce of fat on her. Only thing is...she has mental issues. See...she has an addiction...to BALLS. So, if you ever come visit, don't throw one for her. If you do, you'll be doing it all day and night.

Next up is Bailey. She's our Chow Chow. She's the only one allwed in the house now. See...she's "the queen." She's the oldest. She'll be 12 next month. Out of the others, Josie is the oldest at age 4 (Phoenix is also 4 - but you havent' met him yet). The others stay outside, and if I had a picture of my house and yard (we have 5 acres and a pole barn) you'd see thy are VERY WELL taken care of. In fact, when any of them come in, or are let out to swim inth pond, they cry to go back IN their pen! Anyway, she's the queen bee. Dad's girl, Mom's baby, the spoiled one...you get the picture. But, like all chows, she's VERY devoted to us. Which means DON'T YOU DARE come at us in a threatening way. And don't you DARE let your dog come onto our property. And don't you DARE pay more attention to us than SHE is allowed to pay. So...we kind of have to put her away when we have visitors. But othewise she loves to be loved on and cuddled. She rarely barks. And to watch her walk, she KNOWS she's a girl...she walks like a girl. And when you say "pretty girl" she knows you're talking to her and sh wags her tail.

Then next to her is Jessie. Jessie will be 3 years old in February. Her and my Phoenix had a little "fling" one night and Jessie had 14 puppies because of it. BIG litter. She wasnt even a year old then. Jessie is a golden/yellow lab mix. The puppies looked like Phoenix. We get emails from many ppl who took them, and they are all awesmoe dogs with good homes. We screened the ppl very carefully. One person drove here all he way from wisconsin to michigan cuz he was looking for just that mix of dog....and he was going to pay for the puppy, too. We gave him the one with one blue eye and one brown eye...and we didn't charge him. Couldn't after he drove that far! Anyway, jessie s a love bug. Her and tucker are "best buddies" and play so hard, you'd wonder how they can manage the strength to EAT sometimes. She also likes to "paw" you. She looks like she's dancng when she does it. Watch out! She hurts if she gets ahold of you!

Next to her is my Phoenix. I named him that because he has one blue eye and one brown. "Phoenix" in one of the indian dialects means "glowing eyes" so that's why he has that name. He is a sheppard/husky mix. And look at that curled tail! All the puppies had that brendle coloring and that curled tail. None of them looked like Jessie. Phoenix used to be quite mean...but that's cuz my ex taught him to be. Now that my ex is gone and my current SO and I have worked with him, he's a sweetheart. he loves to give kisses. He also loves to eat chewies...but will swallow them whole if you let him. He steals tucker's all the time. Tucker just holds his in his mouth and hides it from the othr dogs while they're eating theirs...tucker then lays down and when Phoenix is finished with hs, he walks over to Tucker and takes it out of his mouth...and poor tucker just opens his mouth and LETS HIM!

And the last picture is my Tucker all grown up...cuz I wanted you to see what a fine specimen of a golden he is as a big guy. Although eh's only two years old. I get asked all the time if I want to breed him....but he "isn't breedable" if you kwim! I wish he were. He's absolutely perfet. Vets tell me that all the tme, too...about him AND Josie, really. Bet the two of them together would make some awesome puppies, even though they wouldn't be purebreds...but that was too much work...and a huge mistake that won't happen ever again.

Anyway, those are my fur babies, this took me WAY too long to type, my hands are killing me, and I have to get my work done so I don't have to work on Friday. Hope I didn't bore you. I know I have a lot of furry kids to talk about

And that doesn't count my dragon, my son, or my SO!

Anna

Those are just plain lillies from my backyard that I took pics of last summer using my Nikon Digital camera. I messed around a little with Microsoft Picture It Software and WaaaLaaa! Thank you for the kind words. I am sooo amateur. But it make me happy to do it.

On another note. I have found that as of recent - more and more of us are bonding (for lack of a better word) than we probably ever would have on the old site) and I am not really sure why. We have as many problems if not more and yet we feel compelled to take care of our fellow RSDers everyday. I feel it has become a daily ritual and need for me to come on here and make sure all of you are okay. I think the world of all of you and if anything should ever happen to any of my dear dear friends I would be devistated.

Yes Anna that now includes you too!! :)

Chin Up :)

Mark :) :)

jcherry 11-22-2006 11:16 AM

Mark, Your flowers are gorgeous, especially the lily. I would definitely frame that one, but I think all of them are worthy of framing.

I love everyone's pictures of their babies. I had a bloodhound that i dearly loved, but he got out of his pen and a car hit him. I was so sad, and have been looking for another one. I love beagles, and bloodhounds, and most all dogs, unless they are really mean. LOL

I hope you all have a great day! Smiles!

Janet

LisaM 11-22-2006 11:23 AM

Hey mark, have you tried picasa for editing pics? It's a free download from somewhere on either google or yahoo. Just go to google and search for picasa...not picasO but picasA...I like it much better than any other editing software and get a LOT of compliments from the pharmacy when I go to pick up my pictures. It's very easy to use and takes all thepics from your computer and organizes them into the program also (cuz I'm horrible...mine are all over myu puter!). I think I'd make all those black and white and put them in black frames!

AnnaBananaBean 11-23-2006 01:26 AM

Maaaaaark.....

Mark, i was wondering..... if maybe, perhaps.... i could "borrow" the picture of the lilies.... See, i paint/draw/sculpt quite a bit and that picture just really inspires me :) I promise i would send you a picture of whatever i end up creating when im done!!!!

I am just sooooo thankful for finding this place. I really was at my wit's end a few days ago and just knowing that there is someplace i can go and people understand EXACTLY what im going through is a huge relief. So thanks a ton, even if i cant exactly give to much advice back to you all, it just means more than words can express.

Anna

Hi all,

Very quickly (in a rush) - just wanted to say how *beeeaaauuuutiful* we all look now - thanks, Mark, for getting us to do that.

We have the handsomest bunch of beasts in the world! And as for the pets..:p

P.S. (*So* many of us have dogs - you don't think you get RSD from dogs, do you :D :D :D Just kidding...I think...)

all the best :)

ATallOne 11-23-2006 11:53 AM

Anna!!

Absolutely my dear!! You go right ahead and enjoy!! My pleasure!! Anna, never feel like you have to offer anything in return. But soon enough you will find yourself jumping into a thread to offer advice or suggestions based on your own experiences or life lessions. We are so glad you are here with us!!!!

And Artist your right this is alot of fun! I think that it simply says alot about RSD and folks with pets. We have alot of love and warmth and since people can be cruel well we than share it with who we know can appreciate it! OUR BELOVED PETS!!!!.
