I got an invite to the Inauguration!

I am a little confused because it looks like an official invite yet it has a letter stating if we cannot make it, we can attend other events in our area.

It has an official seal of the Inaugural Committee with Obama and Biden's name on it. It says the invite is for any of the public events including the neighborhood ball. It is from the Inaugural Committee in Washington DC.

Anyway, I don't think it's official for a couple of reasons. One, the website for the Inaugural Committee specifically states the tickets for the ceremony are color coded and have gate numbers. This one is a piece of paper. Second, there is no phone number to call and confirm, just a letter telling of the days events. Third, I am a skeptic about everything. :p

Anyone else get this large manilla envelope from DC? :D

PS: This is lighthearted and I will not tolerate any political bashing what-so-ever. That may sound harsh but personally I am done with all that. It is what it is and we all have to accept it. If I see bashing I will have the thread shut down. Sorry to add that downer but feel it necessary.

weegot5kiz 01-09-2009 08:58 PM

hmmmm interesting, I think I would be lerry of it also, what about dropping the official web site a note about it and see what they say, maybe even give them a heads up that someone is doing this? just a thought, if they are real cool beans

SandyC 01-09-2009 09:27 PM

I am sure it's a real letter from the committee. I'm wondering if they just assumed we wouldn't come and sent this as a souvenir? I say this because inside there was a store catalog and a frame for sale to put the invite in. lol

sabimax 01-09-2009 09:31 PM

I think it is real, but not to the actual inauguration, from what it sounds. There are many public happenings in the area that many can attend, I think without them having head counts....that way they get many around the area. But for the actual inauguration it would be the special golden ticket you find in a candy bar..hehe

just teasing on the candy...but wonder if they send those and they could be official, just to get many in area for the public happenings??? hugss, sarah

SandyC 01-09-2009 09:34 PM

I think you may be right Sarah. But I wish I could have those special tix! The committee will announce who won those real soon. I couldn't afford to donate so didn't try to win. Either way, I am going to keep the letter as my proof that I was alive and kicking when this all went down! Oops, it was addressed to James, not me. lol

sabimax 01-09-2009 09:39 PM

ahhaaaa now we can get you in trouble not even your mail~!!!! only Jim can go lol..hugsss,sarah

SandyC 01-09-2009 09:45 PM

Ok this is what it says:

The Presidential Inaugural Committee
requests the honor of your presence
to attend and participate
in the
Inauguration of
Barack H Obama
as President of the United States of America
and
Joseph R Biden, Jr
as Vice President of the United States of America
on Tuesday, the twentieth of January
two thousand and nine
in the city of Washington DC

Then the letter page says: This commemorative invitation is for all public events in what will be the most open and accessible Inauguration in American history.

Haha! I should go and insist on being admitted because it says so. We can be like Ron Kovic!

Vonn07 01-09-2009 11:20 PM

I think the "real" clue is .... commemorative ... of what the real invite looks like and wants you to participate in local ho-downs .. woo-hoo!!

oldsteve 01-10-2009 04:08 AM

Commemorative is the key word.

I agree with Vonn. Check out

I know that the actual inaguration and dances are by ticket only, but there are usual open public events such as the parade ....

weegot5kiz 01-10-2009 09:23 AM

did it say BYOB?

I don't know but I'll ask Blago. I bet he knows! :p

OldSteve, yea I figured it was not a real ticket. I just thought it was funny. Can you imagine if everyone showed up that got one of these and demanded entry? I wonder how Obama would react? :D

Nope, you are under dressed unless you get a cigarette holder to match the tiara...I might still have mine if you can't find one. lol

SandyC 01-11-2009 08:40 PM

Yes ma'am, err I mean your honor, no, wait, your princessness. :p

Debbie D 01-12-2009 02:53 PM

Ooohhh, I wrote on the Insights thread that I got one of these, too...rats...thought all the work I did on the campaign got me in...oh, well...:(

SandyC 01-12-2009 08:38 PM

I'm sorry Debbie. It's true as far as I can tell that to actually get in you have to have a special ticket. Apparently the letter does get you into any public event. I am keeping ours anyway. It will be a collectible! haha

Aarcyn 01-12-2009 09:08 PM

If I could be a VIP and share the moment with friends, I would love to go. Even to be in the huge mass of people, it would be amazing to be in the thick of it.

My cousin married a federal judge so they are invited to each inauguration. I asked her about going. She was hesitating due to the cost. Oh, to be part of history!!! To be there.

Long story short, her DH is taking his eldest son.

They get to have a picture taken with the president and it is not even a cardboard cut-out!

SandyC 01-12-2009 09:19 PM

OK, now that makes me a little envious of your cousin.

Debbie D 01-12-2009 10:03 PM

I have a life-sized cutout of Michael Jordan...can I bring him and get in? Puleeeze??

me too. It was REALLY weird to see her and her DH standing for a photo op with President Bill Clinton. Can you imagine that?

I still remember her throwing up in the back seat of my 65 mustang when we were 19 years old. oh so long ago.

She is my "claim to fame."

DM 01-13-2009 11:15 AM

Hey Sandy! They were just talking on The View about the invitations like you got. They said people from Peoria to wherever got them randomly and some people got them b/c they donated. They are for momento's or to get the public to order commemorative Presidential carp.

So, I'm afraid to tell you that NO, Sandy~ you are not going to be allowed into the DC event, so put your Prom dress back into storage and your pressed wrist coursage back into your dictionary.

I just despise being the one to bring this bad news to you.. *grin*

SandyC 01-13-2009 11:47 AM

Yea but I watched too and Baba Waba said we can go and they will escort us to a special place. lol

*wondering where the "special place" is*
