It's time once again...
...to complain about the cold and snow..
You know, people up here in the cold nort' are very proud of the fact they can survive ridiculously cold weather and deep, deep snow. I know people in Florida who take pride in riding out hurricanes, and my brother in Oklahoma who gets a thrill out of watching tornados come close to his house. Really..What's wrong with us? It hasn't gotten above zero all day. I'm looking at 8 inches of snow on my deck. More snow tonight, high tomorrow (ha) is zero..Folks up in International Falls, MN are proud of the fact they broke the record for the low temp last night, no small feat..I think the air temp was -42, don't know what the wind chill was.. I think the cold has frozen whatever's left of my brain cells. That's good, though, as once they thaw they should be as good as new..Then I can go back to complaining about the heat.. |
Here is a big blanklet to help you keep warm. Darlene:hug: |
Thanks, Darlene..I may need it. Tonight's low is supposed to be -20. Brrrr.
|
That is why I moved out of Minnesota. :p
We do get cold here in Texas, but it usually doesn't last. It's in the 30's right now, but will warm up to mid 60's. Thursday..high in the 30's, but then back up. I hide when there is a mention of tornado's. |
Minus 20! I feel downright cozy at 1 degree. Of course I could have lived very nicely without the fella that slid off the road last evening, crashing into our mailbox, taking it and a portion of our split rail fence out. And then leaving his car with flashing lights on to walk for help???
It was "fun" having the fire engines come, three police cars, and finally the owner with a huge wrecker that blocked the road for about 1/2 an hr. The snow is/was pretty before all the huge ruts. :o |
I promise I won't ever complain of this stinking heat and humidity again.
At least I can go get cool somewhere by the sea. I'm so sorry you're all so cold, and I know the cold hurts so much on our bodies too. I honestly don't think I could ever live in a cold climate after being in this heat and humidity so long. I wish I could send some warm breezes up and over for you all ... |
I've always said I like the cold weather.....but I've only experienced Georgia's cold....which is, at the coldest, in the teens and that doesn't last for long. A friend of mine once told me that I hadn't felt cold until I've spend a winter season in one of the Northern states.
Our winter here is relatively short compared to what ya'll have to endure. January - March are typically our coldest months and if we'll have snow that's usually when it happens. Although we did have a blizzard (yes, a real blizzard) on St. Patricks Day in 1992 (I think that was the year). I have pics and Kevin was about five. I cannot take the heat and it just gets worse as the years pass so I enjoy the winter months here. Can't say that I would say the same if I lived in IL or MI!! |
Kelly tell Kris how cold its gonna be down there today in GA I double dog dare ya....lol I worked in freezers for a food company and a grocery store so PFFFtttt its really no biggie, the walking outside and the nose freezes, really gets old fast though...,
Kris lets hope its the only one we get this season and its just a few more days, its the ones that last 2 weeks that get on my nerve, and yes I know its eff cold sorry a warm hug or two will it help:hug::hug::hug: those of you who hate snow you got admit it is a beautiful thing look at that siggy picture, do know how many times I have skied down that slope in my mind |
As my ds5 pointed out to me as we were waiting for the bus this am. "Its
booger-freezin weather Mama!!!!"lol:D |
We are at a balmy -8 right now, with the wind a-whippin'. The forecast is for wind chill today around -30, and also tomorrow. Tonight the actual temperature is expected to be around -25.
THINK about this, Kelly, when you say you'd like to live up here! :D Actually, the coldest I've ever been in my life was when I lived in Boston, back in the day. I was colder than I'd EVER been in Vermont and New Hampshire. That wind off the water...BRRRR! I'm headed off pretty soon to walk over to the store and post office (it's less than 1/4 mile). I have sweats, turtleneck, heavy socks, boots, gloves, turtle fur hat, scarf to put around my face, and a long quilted down coat (it's brown--think ewok). At least it's pretty much too cold to be slippery. And it doesn't usually last more than a few days. AND I could always stay in if I had to. |
we are actually gonna get cold too, have heard 15 to 20 below here not counting windchill, all the more reason to stay inside
|
That's a beautiful snow picture! That was my promise this fall. I always start getting depressed in the late fall bc winter is coming. I decided to really concentrate on the beauty of winter this year. That has helped a little.
Oh heah. I've also rekindled my love for tea. Chai Spice is still probably my fav-but there are so many wonderful flavors-and it's a cheap thrill! Last night I had Tangerine Orange and Cranberry Apple. I also taught my grandson how to slice up some fresh ginger and make tea. He loved it-and even made up his own combo. Hwe added some ginger coins to his Chai Spice tea. Ok, now I'm off to the kitchen to make some!:) |

Frank....you know better than to double dog dare me!! :D It's going to be in the low 40's today for a high. Tomorrow and Friday it's not supposed to get out of the 30's for highs and the low teens for lows. When you see Atlanta's weather on the national news remember that I'm about 60 miles NE of Atlanta and our temps are generally about 10 degrees cooler than whatever they forecast Atlanta temps to be. I know.....it's nothing like what ya'll are experiencing up there. On GMA this morning they actually showed motor oil that had frozen! Yikes! |

This could be called 'View Outside Lor's Window'. You can't see to far. It's the warmest part of the day now---4:00. The high temp is 13*F, the wind chill is 2*F. Snow if falling right now, it has been snowing since about 9:00. Tomorrows high is supposed to be 7* |
If my siggy comes up, deduct a few degrees as that is the city temp and I am on the mountain top! Snowing on the nmountain now and through the night. I think some one from the north (MN):Poke: is blowing all this brutal cold our way!:Poke:
I am soooo cold. I remeber when I was in law enforcement it seemed all the roads had water main breaks, chimney fires, so many car accident on bad roads. They actually made womens cozies long johns, lol. Di |
I know a lot of people are feeling my pain this week ~ and DiMarie, it ain't me blowin' the cold air your way..I'm full of hot air, you would be warm and toasty :D..
Well, we haven't been above zero for a couple of days. The film they've been showing on TV is in International Falls (or Duluth, they showed both), where it was cold enough to freeze diesel . It's 10:25pm right now, the air temp's 15 below, the wind chill is 29 below. They finally decided it was cold enough to cancel school tomorrow, as the 8am temp is forcast to be 22 below. Dangerous for kids to be out waiting on a school bus (which probably wouldn't start anyway).. Kelly, a high in the 30's sounds like t-shirt weather right now.. All this stuff we're enjoying here and in the Chicago area is moving to the east, you're forwarned..On the good side, we're expecting a January thaw next week with highs in the 30's..If some of this snow melts, it may actually feel like it's in the 30's.. Stay warm, everyone. I think I'll hibernate till Friday ~ start my car a few times so I can get to work..Again, brrr! |
Here is a copy and paste of our forecast, from the National Weather Service:
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -27. Wind chill values as low as -36. Light west wind. Friday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near -3. Wind chill values as low as -39 |
schools are closing, bitter cold, blowing wind and Mr.Alffe is driving to Chicago on the Toll road. The problem with that is if the toll road closes...and it does at times, you are stuck on it! He's had that little adventure in the past. where there is no sense, there's no feeling. *grin
|
well we got down to minus 14 ran the cars late last night and just went out and both started again, :yahoo:
|
Its 6 degrees here.....but after reading the posts from the rest of you...
I think I feel thankful:o Keep warm people:hug::hug: |
It is -8 here, and has not stopped snowing for more than a couple minutes since Sunday.
I'm glad we decided against a haircut for the dogs. They need all the fur they grew. The Poms are plenty furry to run out and potty quick, but the Papillon has to wear a coat. Lemme tell ya, they don't goof around, they get the business done and get back inside. |
I remember the blizzards of the Midwest!!
After 40 cold miserable Winters in Iowa and Ohio we decided when we retired we were moving to Arizona.
We still get some cold weather but no blizzards other than the terrible 4" of snow our first Winter here when schools and business' all over town were shut down. We listened to the radio announcer talk about the heavy snow and we were like HUH; bunch of Arizona wimps!! Now DH and I ARE Arizona wimps and can't take the cold any more! The snowbirds here are in short sleeves and talking about how wonderful the weather is and the rest of us are bundled up and freezing in 55 degree sunny weather! |
i feel a heat wave coming wooo whoooooo its minus 9
|
Oh, B2Y, that forecast sounds painful! Stay in and stay warm!
Brain, sometimes I think dogs are smarter than people. My llahsa went out just long enough to pee & came running back in to keep his toes from freezing. My daughter got him snow boots for this winter, but when he's gotta go, he's gotta go NOW, so no time to put his boots on :).. Hey Frank! Only 9 below? I'm jealous, 13 below here. Looking foward to the warm-up they're calling for, saying tonight will be the last of this brutally cold weather for at least a few days.. Alffe, I hope your dh gets home safely (and on time!).. Soxmom, 6 degrees is still very cold..I feel for you! AZjanie, I know what you mean. We grew up in Colorado, which has it's share of cold temps, but really a pretty good climate. My brother moved to Oklahoma a couple years ago and laughed when everyone got their jackets out & complained about the cold at 55-60 degrees..Now, he IS one of those people..:D Hope everyone stays warm & dry! |
AZjanie, My sis moved from northern Ohio to southern Texas around 1978 and she is like you as far as weather is concerned. She now thinks 60* is kinda cold & wears a sweater. Then at 50* she wears a jacket. Back in her hometown (here) we look forward to the 1st time the temp gets to 50* (in April).
Right now it's -2* and chill factor is -21*. I went out in the backyard today & put a ruler in the snow on the picnic table and the snow came to 9 inches. There's a wind chill advisory in effect. Would you like to go here http://dl10.glitter-graphics.net/pub...piulcizx07.gif |
It's going to have to warm up 27 degrees before we can hit 0 today..Wonder if it's really going to happen?
|
OK I lied..It's 29 below. I'm staying home from work this morning..Went outside & my muscles wanted to stop working. Maybe if it "warms" up a bit later?:o

The severe wind chill warnings are only on until Noon today saturday. We are spending the afternoon and evening on Phila. I hope it is warming there.
I hope the crowds followed the Obama express too and town is not a traffic mess. Generally it is OK on the weekend. TOmorrow starts snow again....we have about 8 inches from the last two storms, prior to that a 39* day and rain washed away the most from the mountain. This was our pre-halloween snow. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n.../SD1028069.jpg I have to catch some deer or a bear for the next pic... di |
its summer out here its 20 degrees above zero
|
Another day in paradise
|
You lie! *grin I just think it's cold in northern Indiana! :D
