I can't send emails to my yahoo groups

Alan did the F10 thing and reformatted the computer (or whatever he did).

Everything was like it was when we brought it home.

Everything works. However I can' use my Outlook Express. I have to use Verizon webmail. Which is fine. I get all my emails.

But in the past (when I used Outlook), all I had to do was hit the reply button and I didn't have to go to the group website to reply to a post.

I just tried and I got a message saying "you cannot send html blah blah, you can only send text messages".

so naturally I simply went to the message board and posted my response.

So my question is "how do I change my stuff to text so I can reply to emails going to a message board, using my verizon webmail".

If anyone knows THIS ANSWER, YOU'RE A BLOOMIN GENIUS.

lol

roger.

I know about Outlook. I don' want to use Outlook. I want to be able to send replies via my Verizon webmail. But I need to change it to text.

(Sorry, I thought I made it clearer).

Thanks much

Melody

Lara 01-24-2009 08:32 PM

Hi Melody, I know nothing about Verison I'm sorry.
However, I wondered if there is a "Tools" then "Options" setting in Verison like there is in some other mail programmes.

I remember that I could do that in Outlook Express ages ago when I used that. It would bring up a window where one could change the Mail Sending Format. That was in Send.

I wonder if you have that option in Verison.

Also might want to check your Internet Options in Control Panel.
Network and Internet Connections.
Internet Options then programs.
"You can specify which program Windows automatically uses for each internet service".

good luck with it.

MelodyL 01-24-2009 08:51 PM

Now why didn't I think of that.

thanks very much. I shall give it a try.

Melody

I'm a bit confused by this part--

[But in the past (when I used Outlook), all I had to do was hit the reply button and I didn't have to go to the group website to reply to a post.

I just tried and I got a message saying "you cannot send html blah blah, you can only send text messages".]

are you saying you can't rely to a message on the Verizon webmail site??
or
you used to be able to reply thru the outlook express??
but can't do it that way now?

Jomar 01-24-2009 10:08 PM

for the Verizon webmail, the Classic style, you can set type of message one the general preferences page , in the options.

[General Preferences [ Back to Mail Options ]
Need Help?
Name and Email
From name: This name will appear on the From line of outgoing mail.
Reply to: (if different from your Yahoo! address, e.g., name@company.com)
Folders/Search Results
Message Ordering: (default)
Descending by date (new messages appear at top)
Ascending by date (new messages appear at bottom)
Messages/results per page: Show messages/results on each page.
Special Folders:
Save your sent messages in the Sent Items folder
Redirect incoming unsolicited mail to the Bulk Mail folder
Composing E-mails
Mode:
Compose messages as color and graphics
Compose messages as plain text]

__________________________________________________ _______

If your using the Yahoo mail version- it doesn't have all the options available yet.

Lara 01-24-2009 10:26 PM

Also...

What have you got in "My Preferences" in your actual Yahoo Groups?

Check that as well to make sure it's set to plain text rather than HTML if your group will only allow plain text.

I just had a look around some Yahoo Groups places and some of the groups will accept HTML and others won't.

Okay, I shall give this a try.

And to Jo:

I USED to use Outlook Express. When I USED TO USE IT, all I had to do (to post a message on the yahoo groups), was to hit the reply button and the email would go directly to the group home.

I no longer use Outlook.

I now receive my mail using Verizon Webmail. I get messages via email, and I wanted to hit the reply button and respond that way (without having to sign into the group, etc. etc.

That's when I got the message "we can't support html, only text, (or some such thing).

I shall try and do what Lara suggests.

I could not find any option in any preferences in my verizon webmail that says what you indicated.

but then again, WHAT DO I KNOW!!!!!

lol

I must be brain dead. I just went to my sproutpeople message groups. there is no MY PREFERENCES.

There is an option to "edit membership", I clicked on that to see if here was any my preferences.

There was not.

I'm doomed!!

Melody

Lara 01-24-2009 11:26 PM

LOL sproutpeople. :D

Hang on I'll check more. I saw numerous references to My Preferences when I searched Yahoo Groups.

Not doomed. We'll find it.

EDITED TO ADD: click on the My Email Preferences link on the My Groups page.

OR even check your

DELIVERY OPTIONS.

You might need to be logged in to do this of course!

Lara 01-24-2009 11:37 PM

Hey, great group, Melody. I check out their www site actually.

OK now I'm here

Yahoo Groups Help -Email and Message Archive

Edited to add:

One example on that page is this... but do check the page because there's a whole list of other help features.

Quote:

How do I view or edit my email preferences?
Customize your preferences and manage the email addresses you use for subscriptions. Just click My Email Preferences in the upper right of the My Groups page.
Of course, you know this might not be the problem at all but was worth checking. :o

Jomar 01-25-2009 12:44 AM

I forgot I am in a yahoo group too LOL.
And just tried to join a horse group and had to have my daughter help me figure out the capcha letters.
the yahoo site seems slow to load...for me anyway.

on the page I joined on there are these settings for email-

[Step 2. Message Delivery

Yahoo! Groups lets you choose how you stay in touch.
Individual Email
The option to choose if you want to get each group message and special notice individually and immediately, as it is posted.

Daily Digest
The option to choose if you want to see all messages but limit the amount of email you receive. We'll compile an email of up to 25 messages and send daily (special notices too!).

Special Notices - Receive only important email notices from the group moderator.

Web Only - Don't get notified of the latest happenings. Read messages only on the web.

Step 3. Message Preference

Select a display format for any email messages you may receive:
Fully Featured New & Improved! Traditional]

so maybe it is one of those settings that you need to change???

so as soon as I get a message from the group I can be of more help so we can figure it out.

Lara 01-25-2009 01:18 AM

hmmnn I was thinking...

Many, many moons ago when I used to subscribe to newgroups which then was called UseNet, it was in my OE that I had the Mail or News option. That was the one I mentioned earlier ... Tools/Options/Send.

To send to usenet I had to make sure that my NEWS Options in my email programme (in my case back then it was outlook express) were set to Plain Text.

Now I know that Yahoo groups is different, but I'm still thinking that if the Yahoo Groups preferences are OK, then you need to check in your Verizon because there are two types of options in OE e.g, one for news and one for mail. Both have HTML or plain text options and advanced settings.

I would double check what Jo posted in post # 7
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post452791-7.html

AHA!!! the fully featured and improved thing.

That's exactly what I clicked on. I'll click on this again. But I think it's how I want to RECEIVE STUFF.

My problem is SENDING the stuff in a text format.

Going back there to check on this.

Well, I went into my groups, I changed the FULLY FEATURED to TRADITIONAL.

Now nowhere did I see anything that allowed me to select TEXT instead of HTML.

If you ever find this option, LET ME KNOW!!!

Rich Text and Plain Text

The toolbar contains a button that toggles between Rich Text and Plain Text message composition. The default state when composing a new message is plain text editing. In this mode the Rich Text Composition toolbar is hidden and the button displays the words Rich Text. Clicking the Rich Text button will display the formatting toolbar and permit text, color and styles to be specified on the message text. The button will toggle the display between plain and rich ext. Selecting plain text while in rich text mode will display an alert warning you that this action will discard any formatting and offer to cancel the action.

Darn! How frustrating for you.

I was hoping that was the fix to your problem.

Are you a registered member to that group already?

Meaning is this a new group for you or have you sent this particular group messages before now??

I note on the site
Quote:

Due to misuse of our group (and others) by spammers we have made it necessary to request a membership. On top of that, you have to write a note (during the Yahoo Groups application process) telling us briefly, why you want to join our group (this will also tell us that you are a human - as opposed to a spammer). You MUST use a word that includes the word SPROUT in it (sprout, sprouts, sprouting, etc.) because spammers can not fake that much. Anything will do - like "I'm human and I like sprouts". It's easy and worth this little effort to enjoy a spam free group. We do apologize for this inconvenience but it will stop the spam and keep the smut off our site!

Nope, I've been a member for 2 months now. Did you read my first post on this? Where I mention I used to use Outlook Express to communicate with the group but now that I am using Verizon, I can't do the email thing, and I must go to the group site. Believe me, it's MUCH easier to reply in an email. It goes right to the message board. At least IT USED TO.

I have no idea what this Text thing is all about.

Oh well, I'll just go to the site and post there.

It's a great group filled with knowledgeable people who know a great deal ABOUT AGRICULTURE and growing and sprouting.

I can't tell you what I've learned so far.....it's just unbelievable.

I purchased some organic Broccoli Sprouts today.

I can't wait to start sprouting these beauties. The anti-oxidant level is off the charts on these sprouts.

Take care and I do thank you for trying to help me.

Like I said:

DOOMED DOOMED DOOMED to walk the ancient corridors of message boards.

never again to be able to respond by email

OH THE PAIN, THE PAIN.

lol lol lol

I log on at the Verizon Central page.
then go to check email

Now on the actual email page you can change between the Classic and the All New Mail.
If you are in the classic email it will say Classic up to the left near the Verizon and Yahoo logos.

If you are in the New style- the logos are a lot smaller and next is your email address and under it it will say sign out , member center, mail classic.
click the mail classic word to get to it.

Ok so now you should be in the classic email -
near the upper right of the page there should be an Options buttons/word - click that.
Half way down the page on the right is -
[General Preferences - {click it}
Customize your Inbox view and your Compose options. Change your outgoing name and address.]

then go to this section -
[Composing E-mails
Mode:
* Compose messages as color and graphics
Compose messages as plain text]

remember to hit save at the bottom left corner.
hope that helps..

Jo:

We seem to have TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LOOKING VERIZON CENTRAL WEB PAGES.

1st. you say "then go to check mail".

There is no "check mail", there is only the option EMAIL. So I clicked on that.

Then I am brought to my emails.

You said ""It will say Classic up to the left near the verizon and Yahoo logos".

there are no YAHOO logos. It doesn't say Classic anywhere.

You say: "If you are in the New style-the logos are a lot smaller and next is your email address and under it clic the mail classic word to get to it.

There is no Mail Classic Word.

I am perplexed at how we are viewing Verizon Central.

I just might call up verizon and ask them about this. I never get through but jeez, I'm so curious.

Oh by the way.

I JUST MADE MY FIRST BATCH OF HOME-MADE YOGURT. It's sitting in the machine in the living room. I'll know by tonight if I made actual yogurt.

lol

Jomar 01-26-2009 01:37 PM

hmm I thought it might be looking different because of the browser but it looks the same of firefox & internet explorer.

I'll have time tonite to look up more info , but have a busy day today.

Lara 01-26-2009 05:09 PM

Melody, does yours look like this demo?

http://webmail.verizon.net/signin/WebmailDemo.jsp

CLICK *VIEW DEMO* button *GO*

My understanding after viewing that demo a few times is that you may have to highlight your text then click the Rich Text button to change it to Plain Text... does that make sense? I wish I had it myself, 'cause then it would be so much easier to test. lol  Also take out any extras for the time being ... e.g. signature if you have that. Just till you get it sorted.

ps. Yes, I did read your first message regarding posting to the group, but I was just double checking in case it was a different group. Some groups allow HTML and some don't.

Well, I'll try clicking on and viewing the demo, but the other day, I went to my email, I hit reply, I changed it to Rich Text, hit send ...it came back. Then I did it the other way, I changed it to plain text...it came back.

And when they both came back, they came back with a message from yahoo telling me that "they only accept plain text"

oy veh!!!

But I'll give it another go.

Be back later.

My quiche is calling to me!!!lol

Jomar 01-28-2009 08:44 PM

I haven't figured out why our Verizon /yahoo email pages look different yet...

I found some stuff on the yahoo help site.
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/gro...WwKCu9yUoilyR4

and
[We no longer support direct replies to daily digest messages, in order to make the digest format more useful for everyone in the group by limiting difficult-to-read messages.

If you receive the new "fully featured" digest, simply click either the "Reply (via email)" or "Reply (via web post)" links that follow each message within the digest.

If you receive the traditional, text-only version of the daily digest, to reply to a specific message, you can do one of the following:

* Find the individual message on the group Web site and then click the "Reply" button that’s part of each message.

* Click the "reply" button on your email client. Then replace the "No Reply" address in the "to" field with the email address of your group. You should also remember to copy the subject of the message you're replying into the subject field (or the message won’t be placed in the correct topic) and to trim all the irrelevant quoted text out of your message (as a courtesy to the other members of the group to make the digest easier to read).]- http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/gro...GwoGpi_RMilyR4

Here's the whole help page - where I found that info above-
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/gro...members/email/

you can click to expand each topic section, I would start at the top and work my way through the ones that sound like it might be what you need.

MelodyL 01-28-2009 09:32 PM

Hi Jo:

And I do thank you for trying to help me.

I do not receive the daily digest. I get individual emails in my Verizon email thingee.

I hit reply, and in the subject line it would say "sproutpeople@yahoogroups.com". I then type in my message and hit the send button.

It always comes back with the same message.

"We only support text and not html".

I'm doomed.

lol
