I will not be doing HiCy

I had an appointment to fly up to meet with the Drs at Hopkins, but asked to speak with one of the Drs first. We agreeded, due to my lung condition, HiCy was not an option. I had thought that might be the case, so at least I saved the flight and motel cost. Just wanted to update.

Hi Sheena,
Nice to meet you.
It's good you called first, that would have been terrible to be sent right back. Which treatment will you be going on? Have you and your doctor decided which is best for you? Good luck with your decision making.

Thanks

sorry about the news on the treatment. i too am not a candidate for any of the immune reboots due to my lung health and or lack thereof, glad you listen to your inside on this one

MissyGirl 01-25-2009 12:41 PM

May I please be so bold as to ask what "lung health issues" you two have, that would make you ineligible? I have a friend with MS, along with 3 other autoimmune diseases who is looking at a reboot as her last option. Unfortunately, she too has lung issues.

Thank you for your time.

i got scar tissue from going into a house fire a few times, to get some folks out ,I have chronic broncitis, asthma and I get pnuemonia twice a year regardless of weather and or how i take care of myself, doc felt it would not be wise, to risk it

MissyGirl 01-25-2009 02:48 PM

Thank you for the information. Bless you for saving those folks. I certainly hope that someday SOON there will be a treatment that can benefit you....and everyone here.

Thanks all for your posts. The reject on HyCi is really not a big deal. I kind of expected it. It is also not a cure; I do think it is a move in the right direction.

To answer a few questions - I was rejected b/c I am a smoker and have scar tissue on my lungs. Hopkins stated they were looking for very, very healthy people. Bottom line, no health issues.

I have been on tysabri since Dxed almost one year ago. I am sever MS, hence Ty was used as 1st line of treatment. I am in some kind of attack now, but I think it is due to being off tysabri for a couple months during a neuro transition.

On a positive note - I am very pleased with my new neuro. I go to a large clinic that has tons of Clinical Research Studies. His name is mentioned in sereval of the new drug studies world wide. So, I think may I have the best or one of the best out there.
