Woweee! I want one!

A friend called me this morning to tell me about this segment that appeared on NBC's Today Show. This is a new electronic stimulus device for drop foot and it's amazing!

DAY1 01-27-2009 12:48 PM

I thought it was pretty interesting. They did say it wouldn't work for just anyone. You have to be able to walk some.

DAY

SallyC 01-27-2009 01:07 PM

Sounds wonderful for those of us who can still walk. Too late for me, Im afraid. A day late and a dollar short..

For you and others, still resonably ambulatory, it could be a godsend..:)

I hope your Ins. covers it, Cin..

ewizabeth 01-27-2009 04:30 PM

Omigosh, I hope you can get one AMN!!!! :Excited: That is awesome, absolutely great! :) :) :)

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-27-2009 05:22 PM

Wow! I am amazed at what this device can do! Why have we not heard about this????

brandonwall 01-27-2009 06:30 PM

If I get to the point of needing that ill dish out the 500 a month or just pay 6 grand for it.

Jappy 01-27-2009 07:42 PM

That's a good question Cheryl. Why haven't we heard about this
before.
She said that she has been using it for 2 yrs. So you can guess that
it has been in trial for sometime.

My DS called me this morning to put the TV on and what the program
was about.

It sounds great, but as usual everything good has a big $$$ on it.

Jappy

sabimax 01-27-2009 07:58 PM

WOW, that is cool for some that have the foot drop, bummer insurance doesnt help in most cases. but WOW what a step for helping in a real good way for a symptom. thanks for sharing, hugss, sarah

DM 01-27-2009 08:14 PM

Man oh man, you've got to seriously check this out AMN!! If this is w/in your reach, it would be amazing. Keep us posted.

SallyC 01-27-2009 08:39 PM

I called a Girlfriend, here in town, about it and she said she had been trying to qualify for it. Her Physiatrist told her she wasn't strong enough for it, yet. She needed more PT.

So,I guess, it's not for everyone.
She wears a brace for her foot drop now, and says, it really helps.

wkikta 01-27-2009 09:32 PM

This is old news. The WalkAid and the Bioness have been out for a couple of years. Still haven't heard of Insurance paying for it yet though.

NurseNancy 01-27-2009 09:35 PM

wow. that was so interesting.
thanks.

jmiller 01-28-2009 12:04 AM

Yes it is a great gadget. It has been around for awhile and I actually used 1 just like it, during physical therapy last year. So I had script put in for it through the Veterans Administration. Well still have not heard anything, and probably will not.

So in the mean time I was given an AFO to assist in my severe drop foot. It helps a little ,but Im scared that when it locks on me I will fall. Hope it works out for you, but Im going to keep pushing for them to give me 1.

Kitty 01-28-2009 06:06 AM

BobbyB also posted about this:

wkikta 01-28-2009 12:04 PM

I have a friend that is working with OVR to get a Bioness through them. It is looking good for him.

The link doesn't work for me, but is this the Walk-Fit or the Walk-Aide from Bioness?

Remember when I checked out your leg thing in IL? I asked if it was a walkfit before I saw it. I didn't understand why you didn't answer in more detail, and I think it's because you hadn't heard about it now!

I told you my cousin had one that used electricity to stimulate her muscle to lift her drop foot. We moved on to other things and it was soon forgotten. Now I wish I had pushed it more but I just figured you had looked into it and it was something that wouldn't work for you!

Next time, polite is out the window and I push what I have to say!!!:p

AfterMyNap 01-30-2009 01:17 PM

No, no, Rdub, it's the Bioness L300, it's pretty similar to the WalkAide but it has a doohickey that senses your heel's relationship to the floor. If I understand it correctly, this not only helps with lifting the toes (like Walk-Aide), but also engages the huhwhuhsomeithibial response that lets your foot and leg make the heel-toe gait cycle.

Here's their website:
http://www.bioness.com/Bioness_for_Foot_Drop.php

That thing you saw on my leg was just an AFO, a brainless, bulky piece of plastic. While it does help keep me from doing painful, clumsy & frequent DMs, it's not stoked with magical powers.

My neuro check up is next week and I called ahead to warn them that I'll be seriously talking about it; the gatekeeper, Tammy, is really psyched as I am the first patient to ask for it.

My ambulation may be too far gone to get any help from it so I have to go to a PT outfit for an evaluation. My goal is not to climb Pike's Peak (did it twice) or ride a bike (sold it) or to run in a marathon (pashaw), but it would be soooooo nice to be able to get from my bed to the bathroom 20 ft. away without flopping onto my face and subsequently putting a doodie in my drawers.:o:eek:

NurseNancy 01-30-2009 06:24 PM

i think that was a bit too much info missy.

*smack*

DM 01-30-2009 06:41 PM

Judy~ you ka rack me up!!! I agree, a leetle toooo much info on AMN's part! Plus, she's trying to impress us w/those idjitruntogetherwordsthatshedoesn'tthinkwe'llunder stand!

Uh, RW??? Please don't refer to the phrase out the window when mentioning the IL GTG, as if you remember~AMN took the screen out and tried to push poor leetle DM out. I am still have nightmares over that one.

Can't wait to hear how the Neuro appt goes AMN~

*You only climbed Pikes Peak TWICE???* another Pashaw!

Hey, Dingbat— http://www.pic4ever.com/images/budo.gif later, dude—http://www.pic4ever.com/images/stretcher.gif

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-30-2009 10:00 PM

I just love the way you explain things AMN, so laymanish that anyone can understand! Even DM. LOL!

AfterMyNap 02-04-2009 02:27 PM

This just in:

I made it through the first hoop today, my neuro is not wildly enthused (like I am) but thinks it's a good idea for me to go get evaluated for the Bioness L300, she agreed that even if I got half or a third of my ambulation back, it will be well worth it. They will also evaluate me for the knee cage while I'm there.

So, for the next 12 days I will be taking outrageous Zanaflex doses to try and kill off a horrendously painful series of back spazzes I've been enjoying this past month. I'll also be doing a 3-day IVSM burst. Once we've cleared this hurdle, it's on to the PT/OT for evals and hopefully, some news.

I am cautiously optimistic about this; man, what I wouldn't do to move again! Here's hoping.

weegot5kiz 02-04-2009 02:50 PM

also hoping and praying it works great for you Cindy, will be so cool:hug:

tovaxin_lab_rat 02-04-2009 03:01 PM

I am crossing every thing and saying tons of prayers that you pass all the evals for this Cindy! Good luck!

DM 02-04-2009 04:11 PM

Zipadeedoodah!!! That's fantabulous news! It's worth a try and if it helps, heck~ you'll be square dancing in no time.

Oh, you don't square dance??? Thought you would w/you being a

cube and all.

I sure have been sleeping a lot with these mega doses of Zanaflex, then, like a DM, I watched Hair and Godspell and my eyes are freakin' out!

Think I'll take another nap.
