Can someone help me to delete my attachments?

I am trying to delete my attachments and can't figure out how to. Can someone help me to figure this out?

After the past few days of crazy Internet news about some people taking pics and using your pics on other sites I've decided to delete all of my pics. I still have them on my computer to enjoy privately and if anyone needs a pic just let me know. I am doing this so my pics or anyone I have pics of doesn't become the latest Craig's list add or porn site "babe" of the week. :D

Thanks!

what is this about?

Have I missed some new awful internet warning?

I have to admit I am paranoid about the net after what happened to me a few years ago...

Are you talking about your profile pics? Or pics on posts?

Can you explain a bit more, your concerns?

SandyC 02-18-2009 01:38 PM

I am talking about all of my pics. I always knew it could happen but just never gave it much thought I guess. Apparently Facebook tried to change their user agreements to include they owned all of your photos even if you deleted your account. They have since changed that due to an overwhelming response from members about how unfair it is. Then a young lady who had her pic on there was stolen by some crazed guy who posted it on Craig's List and used it as porn advertising.

I am just not comfortable posting pics anywhere anymore. Maybe I am paranoid but that's fine by me. The boys once had a friend who's mom was posted on a porn site without her knowledge. They somehow took her photo and put it on a naked body. It was a long drawn out process for her and very stressful.

Anyway, it's just a personal decision and one I am glad I am doing. I have deleted all pics from here, Facebook, Photobucket, Myspace and Classmates. I don't think I have anymore out there. lol

Sandy it is your choice on the pics.

You can delete them all on your profile OR you can make your profile private so that only your friends list can view it and your pics in your albums

Chemar 02-18-2009 02:14 PM

ps if you are referring to every photo you may ever have posted here on posts then I dont see how we could possibly find all those nor edit them for you:eek:

perhaps PM DocJohn to see if there is any way he can do it for you but I doubt it if they were added photos rather than just attachments, and even then I really dont know if it is possible to blanket delete all

mrsD 02-18-2009 03:21 PM

thanks Sandy

for the explanation...

There are "attachments" in CP. If you "attach" and not use a
Photobucket url, that is. The Photobucket attachments don't show up in CP that way.

I typically remove my "attachments" once a year that way to
save bandwidth etc.

I don't think that scenario would pertain to me, EVER, however.
And we don't have pics on Facebook.

That "paranoia" wave however, is uncomfortable. I'll think about my profile for a while before any changes.

I did see that Facebook controversy, and I think they undid the changes for now. I don't trust Facebook or MySpace for that matter. This is not a major issue for us at all.

LOL :D It's in the attachment section, not my albums. I thought we could go in and erase them to save space for us or what not. It's not that serious if it's hard to do. This is the first time I noticed we couldn't delete them here. ;) I think I only have twelve anyway so don't worry about it.

I trust everyone here but in all reality you never know who can come on and view your pics you know? I should have thought about the "only friends" option before I deleted all my albums. Can you get those back for me? :p

Sandy

did you see the tip MrsD gave you for deleting attachments in your User CP herte

Jomar 02-18-2009 06:13 PM

An image search on the internet can bring up any kind of picture someone would want.....so i think the risk would be pretty slim from a site like NT.

Going forward, it is something to be aware of before posting personal photos or identifying information.

Chemar, yes I did but the attachments in my cp don't have the option to delete. I can look at them though! lol

Thank you for trying to help.

mrsD 02-18-2009 07:12 PM

That is strange... I just looked at my attachments and there are little squares next to each, and at the bottom says "Delete selected". This is why I use the attach feature here, instead of Photobucket links. That way I have control of them.

These are the real attachments thru this board--ones you put up using "manage attachments" on the reply box. NOT links to outside urls like Photobucket.

I suppose if yours are from a LINKED url outside you could go to that place (Photobucket or whatever) and delete the picture there.
Wait a while (week or so) and put it back there and it would have a new address?

And this is why I don't have my real name on the net or my picture.

But if some dude wants my petunias...well, they can have 'em! LOL

SandyC 02-18-2009 07:48 PM

MrsD, yeah I took my artwork down too. I didn't place a copyright on them and even if I did someone could take them. Oh well, those attachments must be outside linked. All is not lost since they look like gifs and such. Thanks so much to everyone who posted for all your help!

Sadly that's the internet. Like everything there is the balance. I've even had friends post pictures of me on the open net without asking despite my spending like 10 years trying to protect family images.

Regarding Photobucket... I had figured that if one posted links from there to forums such as this then it could eventually be removed/deleted by us if we wished at the actual Photobucket site and thus the image would not remain here. Not sure if that is correct or not, but that has been my experience.

Chemar 02-19-2009 09:26 AM

Hi Lara

yes if you remove the image from eg photobucket that is linked here then it zaps it here too

weegot5kiz 02-21-2009 11:42 AM

if you remove your own pics from photo bucket it will kill the link if its a pic you just did a search then yeah you will have to do it the other way
