New obsession & I'm done w\smoking!!

Hi everbody :)!! I've been mia because I am now officially obsessed with making greeting cards :D! Many of you wil be getting one pretty soon :). Also, I quit smoking real cigarettes with the help of an 'electronic cig' that Earl mentioned on Social Chat :D! It looks like a cigarette but only delivers nicotine (like the patch or gum) and a flavoring additive, no carcinogens, YAY!! My mom died from lung cancer last year and I promised myself and my Dad that I would quit. This fake cig is the best thing since sliced bread :D!!! I was up to a pack and a half of cigs a day, ARGH! This contraption may just save my life :). Woohoo!! I hope everyone is doing ok, I have much to catch up on here....if I can step away from my craft table :D!

SandyC 02-19-2009 09:46 AM

Joelle, Jim and I ordered the e-cig too! It should be here this week! I am convinced now that you are using it that it works. Whoohoo! I think the magic is the nicotine and the vapor that looks like real smoke.

Kitty 02-19-2009 09:51 AM

Good for you, Joelle!! I'm proud that you quit and I know your family is, too.

I love my card!! You should contact Hallmark or American Greetings and sell them......they're beautiful! :)

Earl 02-19-2009 09:54 AM

I am very pleased you are doing well and enjoying the new e-cig. I love mine. I do occasionally smoke a real cig (about 3 a week) because many of my friends smoke but once this pack ends, it's strictly e-cig for me.

ewizabeth 02-19-2009 09:57 AM

Joelle,

I'm very proud of you for quitting. Way to go! Isn't it nice having that spare time and energy to do creative things? :)

Good for you too Earl! Jim and Sandy, you can do it!! I'll be cheering you on! :grouphug:

hollym 02-19-2009 11:13 AM

Thank you for quitting! I'm so happy for you.

sabimax 02-19-2009 11:22 AM

woohoo for quitting, and where do I give you my address for a wonderful card hehehehe just teasing, but great for the quitting, keep it up!! It can only be great for your body! hugsss, sarah

Twinkletoes 02-19-2009 12:40 PM

Congratulations, Joellelee!!!

My friend has one and really likes it.

Good luck to you!

tovaxin_lab_rat 02-19-2009 02:34 PM

Congrats Joelle!! Have fun with your greeting cards!

the Bird 02-19-2009 04:41 PM

Congrats again - your body is thanking you more than we are!!! :grouphug:

karousel 02-19-2009 09:05 PM

Congratulations on quitting smoking. It's great that you are having fun making greeting cards and others are getting to enjoy.

Twinkletoes 02-19-2009 10:29 PM

Hope you are keeping with your goal.

I made a doc appt today for a sinus infection. The PA listened to my chest and remarked, "Wow, it's nice to listen to the breathing of a non-smoker!"

According to him, our lil county here in central Utah has a higher density of smokers than almost anywhere in the country! I had never heard that before.

We've got pristine air here -- I guess it's just too clean for some folks, lol!

Keep up the good work! Proud of you!

dmplaura 02-19-2009 10:55 PM

That's awesome that you quit smoking!! :D Welcome to the club! :)

E-cig? Never heard of, must look up!

ali12 02-20-2009 07:48 AM

Congratulations on quitting smoking - I am so proud of you and as the others said, it can only do your body good!!

I also make cards! It is such a fun hobby and helps take my mind off some of the pain but I agree ... it IS addictive!! I have been making cards since I was about 10 years old (now 14) and it started with me mentioning something to my grandad about it and then he got addicted and started making cards - he passed away in Novemeber unfortunately but i'll never forget all of the beautiful cards he made and that he gave me (I still have them)!

If you would like to talk about card making or "compare notes", please know that I am here for you! I love crafting but can't do it as much as I used to now because of my arms. I am forever watching Ideal World and QVC shopping channels though to see if they have anything that I might like and need or any tips that I would find useful!!

Keep up the good work and congratulations again on the quitting smoking - you go girl!!!

Jodylee 02-20-2009 08:15 AM

Thanks for all of the encouragement :)! If anybody wants a card, please pm your address :D. I would love to send you all at least one :). The e-cig is great for me because I just love to smoke. I know how foul smelling and disgusting they are to nonsmokers. I was one for a few years :D. I hope more smokers hear about this 'fake cig' because it really is a wonderful alternative. I get some dirty looks in public places where smoking isn't allowed though. It looks so real that I've had to to tell a couple of strangers that it's fake! Good luck, Sandy and Jim . I know it will be great for you two. If anyone else is considering it, go for it!!

SandyC 02-20-2009 12:32 PM

Joelle, where did you get yours? We bought ours and it came from China. Had no idea until it was bought and now it's sitting in customs. lol

lady_express_44 02-20-2009 12:34 PM

What a totally cool idea, Joellelee/Earl. :D I've never heard of that. :)

So you still get the nicotine, but not the smoke/smell/other chemicals? You can't hurt others with your second-hand smoke (not that I believe that argument anyway, but )?

Have you noticed that you are smoking less, Joelle?

What does it taste like . . . is there the same satisfaction as a cigarette (I don't even change brands because I am very fussy about taste)?

Where is the best place to order one? I see that you need replacement nicotine cylinders, but how many cigarettes does each cylinder represent? Any idea how much it costs per week, compared to real cigs.

I am getting them for sure ... I'm so excited!!

Cherie

SandyC 02-20-2009 12:43 PM

Cherie Jim and I got ours from e-cig.com It was on CBS news here and we were instantly intrigued. Like I said, the only downfall is ours is coming from China so it will take longer to get here. They have videos of the cig in action.

lady_express_44 02-20-2009 01:14 PM

Thanks, Sandy.

They still have the appearance of smoke?:confused: No wonder people are staring at you in no-smoking areas, Joelle!!

If it still has smoke, doesn't that constitute "smoking"?

Cherie

SandyC 02-20-2009 01:59 PM

It's not smoke, it's a vapor. lol

COOL!!!!

I think I would enjoy smoking these just for the shock-factor. HA!

Cherie

SandyC 02-20-2009 02:14 PM

Me too! I am looking forward to going to the local eatery and "lighting" one up! lol

Jodylee 02-27-2009 08:52 AM

Yikes!! I haven't been on NT since the 20th! Here's the lowdown on my e-cig. I bought mine at the mall that's a 1\2 mile from my house. I have a good relaionship with the manager so he gives me MASSIVE discounts when I buy my refills in bulk :D. I don't smoke any real cigs anymore...BUT I chain smoke this fake cig because unlike a real cig there is no 'end' to it. I should time myself and just put the thing down but I LOVE it :D ! It is expensive because I never put the sucker down :D. I was a person who didn't change brands of cigs because of flavor. This e-cig is very smooth and has a great taste. It takes a few days to get used to it but it is so worth it. Good luck to anyone who's considering this :D. It is the best decision I've made.

SallyC 02-27-2009 11:51 AM

I ordered mine from Puresmoker.com. A more popular brand and less expensive than the Njoy.:)

I went to a e-cig forum to get the lowdown, from those who are using them.

I can't wait till it's delivered....Thanks Joelle and Earl.

SallyC 03-01-2009 02:46 PM

OK, I am totally hooked on my new e-cig.:D

Pros...Sometimes, all I want is a drag and I can take a puff at anytime and set it down until the next puff....without having to waste a whole Cigarette or let it go up in smoke in the ashtray and yellow stains all over my house, while I am not paying attention.

No smoke, tar or other harmful additives going into my lungs.

I don't worry about falling asleep with a lit ciggy.

I can satisfy the ritual of smoking, which I truly enjoy, without the dangers of the smoke and 2nd hand smoke. (I can smoke with my grands here :p) DD is glad, she calls it Grandma's pacifier..:D

Cons...None, that I can think of!!

SandyC 03-01-2009 03:41 PM

I love mine too!!!!!!! I may look into yours Sally for the future since it's an American company. Whoohoo! As Danny in Grease said "It's electifying!"

DM 03-01-2009 08:43 PM

Hey Joellelee! It's great that you have been able to kick the habit w/these new fake cigs. Not a smoker myself, but good luck to everyone who is using these now.

I'm also a card maker and rubber stamper. It's so therapeutic, but I've been a little lax at it lately. Have to get my tail making cards again, as my supply is getting low.

Keep up the smokefree lifestyle. It looks good on you.

(reminds me of Jerry on Boston Legal w/his fake cig) ha!

SallyC 03-01-2009 09:15 PM

I'm not using this as a "stop smoking" thing, it's a smoking alternative for me, because I enjoy all the mechanisms of smoking including the nicotine hit (which is good for PwMS ya know).

I guess I have quit "smoking" though....now I'm safely Vaping..:D

lady_express_44 03-02-2009 12:06 PM

Sally & Sandy, are you not smoking ANY real cigs now then?

Did you buy the "nicotine" flavored e-cigs?

How's the cost compared to real cigs?

For those who might be picking it up and puffing here and there, would it be better to "pretend" it's a cig and smoke it as fully as you would a real cig, then not smoke again till you would normally smoke another real one?

Anyone run across any information on the safety or relative risks, compared to smoking? Obviously we are still getting the nicotine, but is that what causes lung cancer, or is it the chemicals, etc?

Does it light up inside like a cigarette . . . i.e. how does it "burn"?

This is so intriguing to me. :D

Thanks, Cherie

(Sandy, have you lit up at the kiddie pool yet?)

SandyC 03-02-2009 12:18 PM

I haven't lit up at the kiddie pool yet! lol

It is safer because you don't get the "smoke" or chemicals that are harmful for the lungs. I am still smoking but not as much as before e-cig. We bought the nicotine cartridges. I imagine it's no more harmful than nicotine gum. On my e-cig the end lights up red and gets warm the more you puff on it. It is then that it feels more like a real cig. It's heavier than a real cig because of the battery but I pretend and it works. lol The cost for my cartridges is about $5 for every five. Each one last about 4-5 cigs depending on how much you smoked prior to the e-cig. Jim and I only smoke 4-5 cigs a day as it is so the e-cig works great for us. Who knows? If it works this well we may be non smokers some day. I do love the "real" cig and how it feels too though.

SallyC 03-02-2009 01:50 PM

I puffed away for my DD and Grands, yesterday. They call it Grandma's pacifier..:D

I haven't smoked a real Ciggy since Saturday evening. Once in awhile I reach for one and then take a nice puff off or my e-ciggy and am satisfied.

Your idea of smoking as you would a reg. cig...I do, because I usually take a puff and sit it in the ashtray untill I'm ready for another puff. For me, the e-cig saves money, because, sometimes my ciggy burns out before I have a chance to finish it.

The jury is still out, on saving money, untill I test it out for about a month. I usually smoke a little over a pack a day or 4 cartons per month @ $36.00 per carton (3.60 per pack. Soooo for me about 4.00 per day and so far in a day and a half, I used 2 cartridges @ 1.00per=2.00 ....so far I am saving money..:D, but I may not be puffing as much as I normally do?

I know one thing I'm getting more nicotine with the e-cig because I'm inhaling deeper, now that there is no smoke going in my lungs.

It may be placibo, but I actually feel better and stronger, since not smoking and just vaping..;)

This is great for those who enjoy puffing on a ciggy but, now, without the smoke and tar danger.

For everyone who hasn't been able to quit, I recommend the e-cig.

SandyC 03-02-2009 02:12 PM

Sally, which e-cig did you buy on that site?

SallyC 03-02-2009 02:59 PM

I bought two...the classic pen and the pocket mini. The pen is bigger but lasts longer. the pocket mini looks more like a real ciggy.

I haven't ordered extra cartridges yet. The kits come with five, so I'm ok for now.....I think..LOL!

Earl 03-03-2009 10:12 AM

Have any of you watched any video's on YouTube on the E-Cig? would you be interested if I made a video to show it to those who haven't seen it? if so, let me know and I can film a short display of the one I use, which is the NPRO.

I recently went to a wedding in Palm Springs and the people there who saw it thought it was the coolest thing they had ever seen. It was great to be able to "smoke" in my hotel room, around my parents (who HATE smokers) and at the wedding. I really love it also.

So, let me know if you want a video of mine or if you are fine watching the dozens on YouTube already.

Riverwild 03-04-2009 06:55 AM

While I was out of it during the past few weeks, I learned something interesting.

I smoked my last cig on my way to the ER. I wanted to get those last few puffs in before I got there since I knew there would be no smoking if they found something wrong.

I had two chest xrays and both were clear. I looked at the films myself and although I am no radiologist, I know what to look for. I was overly excited to see the clear films. because if anything is going to get me, I think it will be CA.

I didn't smoke the whole time I was in the hospital. The doc repeatedly offered me the patch and nicorette and whatever i needed to help me get through it, but I said no, I was ok. I had no cravings or anything. I have always said I am not addicted to cigarettes, I just like smoking. It calms me. I have no desire to smoke, I just LIKE it.

When I got out, there was my pack of cigs, laying on the car seat where I left them when I went into the ER a week before. It had been 5 days since I had one. I started at them, put them in my pocket, felt them there, thought about it, and eventually lit one.

I wish I had thrown them out. I am smoking again. I am smoking less than I did before but I am smoking. I am going to give it another shot when this pack is gone, but I don't know. I hope I can put them down and walk away. I admire those of you who have quit. Good Luck and good health to you. Hopefully, one day I can say, I am an ex-smoker too.

I hope so, too. I like you and want you to have a long healthy life. I am watching my Grandma deal with small cell lung cancer and it is NOT good.

I never thought I would feel the way I do because I have always felt like it was none of my business what other people do, but now I find myself wanting to tell people to quit smoking.:o

SandyC 03-04-2009 11:58 AM

RW, my mom and Jim said the same thing. I think it's because you can't have them so it becomes moot. As I puff on the fake cig I realize if the real ones weren't here I wouldn't miss them. But because they are, I am smoking them.

SallyC 03-04-2009 02:21 PM

I haven't had the desire to pick up a real Cig, since Sunday morn, when I started the e-cig. I may have to though, because my supplier is out of cartridges & juice and I don't know when the next shipment comes in..

I have a full carton here but I hate to start back up on smoking when vaping is just fine so far.

Since you are, like me, not addicted to cigs, and just enjoy the relaxation of it, you should give this a try RW!!
