Weekend Thread 2-20-09

So whats on your schedule for the weekend. Anything interesting?

Found out tonight that Derrick was invited to the sweethearts Dance next
week and he waited a whole week to ask me because he was worried about me.

Such a sweet guy is mine, and its so nice for him to get this invitation.

He has already asked her to the prom,

I'm still recooperating and just taking it slow.

checking in

I am hanging in there.. :)

I really need to get a good shower and wash my hair this weekend. I feel icko and i know that makes me irritable as well. Also i need a phone card from the tobacco shop (not smokes! haven't smoked anything at all since last june :)) so i intend to get out today, before or after shower i don't care. maybe before.

Poirot is on at 3 and lasts 2 hours. He is usually fun.
Then at 5 Monk is on and you *know* i can't miss that madman!

So, emm. well if i jump in the shower now, i could possibly be all set and let my hair dry while i do that 3 hour tv marathon...

then go out nice and clean for the phone card.

that leaves tomorrow to change the bedding, swiff the living room, clear up some mess, do some filing, dust the remaining knicknacks (i started last week), and lounge around the lounge coz i gotta get back into the habit of folding my bed up. That is a problem because i dont have any place to stash the big bulky quilted bedcover i need to keep me warm. it's too bulky to fold in. we shall see.

and tomorrow night... HOUSE!!! New Episodes! (to me, anyway). :Excited:

gosh i am overwhelmed just thinking of this. ok now i'm down to a half hour to shower - not quite enough. hmmmmm. what to do............

oh gosh, and i still haven't written that dialogue for therapy. actually i tried and went blank. usually it is a thing that dances around in my head. so i decide to write about it and it hides? oh bother!:o

Donna
glad you are feeling better and... what a sweetheart of a son you have. no surprise he got invited to that dance ;) ... wonder where he got that sweetheartedness from, hmm? :circlelove:

Beth
wow a month went fast... seems just yesterday you met with your women's group. i recall the last meeting was very deep for you. i hope this one goes as well, and that you find healing and friendship in this spiritual journey.

Mardi gras or Fat Tuesday is called that coz it's the last day of indulging before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a period during which Catholics traditionally give up something a luxury of some sort ... make some sort of sacrifice in their daily lives. I fortet if there are also dietary restrictions. I don't know what the predominant religion out by you, Beth, but that's where it all comes from. Here the traditional parades are getting started all over the place, they are in the news, lol. Every town has its little twist on things.

Enjoy. I remember going to a Mardi Gras parade once as a little girl, all dressed up as in a multilayered taffeta and lace gown, and wearing make up, a fake beauty spot made with eyeliner, and face powder so i looked like a doll, lol. not sure what i was supposed to be any more. but it was fun.

think i best go for the phone card first. time is running out. will have to remain dingy till after Monk. :o:p

barbara... homework?

what homework are you doing... is it for your web design class? if not... what?

i started to take one of those some time back... it was free in fact... darn it if i couldn't get through though, it was at a time when anxiety got the better of me, and i ended up dropping out. :( i really wish i'd been able to complete it. i got through the html and photoshop part, but i already knew more html than they taught, thought i did learn the odd thing more on photoshop before dropping out. but they were going go onto do flash and dreamweaver and those were the bits i know *nothing* on and would have really needed.

what does your class cover?

am i being too nosy? :D

well good luck with your homework. dunno if you get graded but i hope you gain from it regardless. i am terrible with homework... one reason why i'm afraid to go back to school. no self-discipline (working on that in therapy).

sigh.

well Poirot was a bit of a let down or a get up and go really coz i ended up multitasking with posting and housework. it was 2 1-hour episodes, rather than a 2-hour movie which i would have preferred.

and Monk was one i'd seen already :( ... the diamond hunt one. so i didn't bother with it.

swiffed the whole darn house except my parents' room, swept the kitchen, got behind things and all, and i'm not used to this OUCH my back hurts. that is really sad... i'm too young for this. i need to get up and...

:Dancing-Chilli: :p:Dboogieeeeee!!!:D:p :Dancing-Chilli:

yearrrrright! :(:mad::eek::rolleyes:

It is predominantly catholic down here and lent last 40 days. the dietary restriction is no meat on friday but you can have fish and other sea creatures life crawfish...so there is really no sacrificing about that.
carnival lasted 6 weeks before mardi gras, balls and such it is big here.
glad to hear that you waves are being so productive.

Its a good thing one of my son's got some sweetness from somewhere.

And its really been kind of funny this last few weeks. He got a valentine
candy kiss, a big one. From her, its the first year she remembered, and
she, he said, was really excited. And he always has a surprise for her.

So its growing and its blossoming and its really cool.

Eh the no meat on Friday (seafood ok) is year round Catholic tradition, not just during Lent, at least Roman Catholic. it also applies on the eve of important holidays - eg. Christmas Eve, regardless if it's a Friday or not, the no meat rule applies - Catholics eat "di magro" i.e. "of lean" - as opposed to meat(which-is-fat:confused:). i meant additional restrictions, but i don't think there are any. i actually couldn't remember if you were allowed to eat meat at ALL during Lent... given the name Fat Tuesday precedes Lent... i should ask my folks lol. or maybe someone else here knows now i'm curious. NOoooooo, i'm not Curious, i'm ~ waves ~ ... but i'm still curious. :p i'm silly too. lalllaallaaa.

Short version of Lenten dietary laws

Hi,
In US Catholic churches,

1) Abstinence:
no meat from land dwelling animals or birds on Ash Wednesday, Fridays of Lent, or Good Friday.
(Since Pope Paul VI made a new rule in 1966, it is ok to eat meat on other Fridays / days of the year because Catholics can sacrifice in other ways on Fridays. )

2) Fast:
fast on Ash Wednesday, Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday -- fasting means one meal (no meat) and two snacks that add up to no more than one meal.

The details of these dietary laws can be quite detailed. For example, it is appropriate but not required to abstain or fast during other days of lent. Also, the laws can be modified by local bishops -- as seen in 2006 when St. Patrick's day fell on Good Friday.

It can be a mortal sin to refuse to follow the abstinence and fasting rules, but only a venial sin to forget to follow.

Fat Tuesday (very old tradition that goes back centuries before the newest rule in 1966):
day to eat up rich foods in the house like eggs, cream, sugar, . .
According to my understanding, the Mardi Gras parades would normally end before Ash Wednesday, February 25 -- but I am no expert on how New Orleans does this.

Those who observe Lent go beyond what to eat and not to eat, but, since the discussion is about food, that's what I am sticking to.

There are 44 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter because Sundays are not counted as part of Lent -- Sundays are always a day of celebration.

Don't ask how I know this stuff.
My family likes rules, esp food rules.

WEll I actually cleaned some of the house today with jeff!
got on my hands and knees to scrub part of the floor.
went to the parade tonight with only a small amount of rain...came home with tons of beads, no parade tomorrow but a couple on monday night then the big day tuesday there are many parades at different times during the day.
I am not catholic but am considering giving something up for lent.
hmmmmmm

Hi Beth, Waves, Donna, Mari, and Di.

Waves, the class I am taking is the Web page design class. It is basically a HTML class. So far this weekend I learned alll about lists and horizontal rule which means putting a line on the web page. Here is the code I have done this weekend that I have learned.

For anyone interested you can follow these steps:
You can copy and past the text below in notepad and save it with the file extension of html. Then go to IE, File, Open, Browse until you see the file and open it up. It will display like a webpage.
