MS Awareness Week - March 2-8 2009
This is MS Awareness Week. I don't know what any of you are doing or how involved you are in your local chapter as far as promoting MS Awareness this week, but check out the NMSS Website for some ideas.
Our local chapter in Boise, ID asked the governor to sign a proclamation for MS Awareness week. On Wednesday we will have a formal signing of a Proclamation of MS Awareness Week and Wednesday will be MS Day at the Capitol. It took a lot of work, but we got it done in short order! I will post pictures after the signing! www.nmss.org |
Since I am riding in the Bike MS ride in April this year instead of October, I am planning to incorporate MS Awareness week into the donation solicitation emails I send out to family, coworkers, and friends. I am also going to try to get several of the local businesses that I am a long time customer of (doctor's offices/veterinarians, etc.) to let me put up a donation box in their lobby or at least try to get donations from them as a reward for my years of loyal patronage.

Guess this was a bust. Thanks TxBatMan for your post. Thank you.
Be Positive. :D |
You need a raise TXBatman! Thanks for all the work big guy.
Wait. One week? I thought we had the whole month. No, I'm not trying to be funny. I thought it was a whole month. |
My support group doesn't meet during this week, but we're doing an envelope stuffing party next week for the walk in April on behalf of our local chapter.
I've been doing little things here and there too. |
You guys are awesome!
We have the MS Walk coming up this weekend. DDs and I are going to go down and cheer everyone on. (I'm not able to participate this year.:(). |
March is also Frozen Foods Month.
I have my little sign ("Ask me about multiple sclerosis") with brochures on the back of my scooter seat. I'll be tooling through the mall and mega stores this week. Maybe I'll mail a bunch of postcards to all the society chapters to make sure they still know about it.:p :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: :ROTFLMAO: |

I thought it was the whole month, too.
Anyway, what I'm doing lasts the whole year (and hopefully longer). I have told my sister and my boys that any gift they plan on giving me (birthday, Valentine's, Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas, etc.) should be a donation to the NMSS. In other words, any money that they would have spent on a gift for me should be used as a donation made in my name. I hope they will honor that request...and I'll be reminding them of it frequently. :) |

Here's the photo taken this morning during the signing of the Proclamation. It was great! From left to right are: Mike Kyle - MS Walk and Volunteer Coordinator; Erin Farrell, Development Coordinator; Lt Governor Brad Little; me; State Representative (House Majority Leader) Mike Moyle; State Representative Scott Bedke.
Mike Kyle has MS. Mike Moyle has 3 family members with MS. |
My son's fraternity is doing a MS Mud Bowl this spring. A little late for awareness week but it's a good start! We'll be there to watch and root for the volleyball mud slinging.
PS: Illinois has a lotto program aimed at all proceeds going to multiple sclerosis research. Illinois Lottery Acting Superintendent Jodie Winnett and President of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Illinois Chapter Lynda Chott, announced the release of a new instant ticket that will fund research aimed at developing preventative measures and treatment of MS. "It's Double Time!" is the first instant ticket in U.S. Lottery history where 100 percent of net proceeds will be used to help people in Illinois living with MS |
Other than being totally aware of MS myownself, I'm not doing much. I may give a bit to NMSS. I haven't done that for awhile.
Nice Photo Op Cherie. You look so teensy in there with all those big ole cowpokes.:) |
Once again, thanks for the reminder!
I wrote to all my state reps and senators to remind them that they have many constituents with MS and that we still don't have many of the things we need to thrive and survive in our state and in this country, pressing the point that through no fault of our own, we are stricken with this disease, have to go through a two year waiting period for health care when we are found disabled IF we get on disability, often losing our homes, savings, friends, lifestyle, jobs and insurance. MAKE SOME NOISE PEOPLE!!! |

Proclamation was yesterday in the local chapter here in Maine also with orange flags flying every where!
I was not able to attend for I had something else scheduled. It was suppose to be Monday but due to the snow storm is was changed. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into this week! Thank you to all who help! |
you look beautiful flygirl!!!!! great work!!!
|
MS WeeK??? ReallY? I had no idea.
The local news in SoCal has spent all its time this week talking about the teenager who wants to pass a "no cursing law." Apparently, they think its "cute" that this kid wants to impose his own form of censorship on the entire county of LA. Hey, who cares, right? Promoting censorship is much more important than reminding people of a serious illness :winky: |
