I Posted a New Wheelchair Kamikaze Video
Hey folks, I posted a brand-new Wheelchair Kamikaze video, "The Quest for Bagels". This edition of Wheelchair Kamikaze has us heading up Broadway to my favorite bagel shop, and then for a ride through Central Park on the way home.
Hope everybody enjoys my latest adventure... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM0GjqwrwHs |
One of my favorite places to eat is in Baltimore, very near the Inner Harbour area, is Fell's Point. It's an old wharf/Port area, full of old Taverns (for the sailors once), old building "Grandfathered in", updated a little, but old, not subject to any ADA or buildings regs. The streets are old cobblestone, after a visit in my chair, I still rattle on the way home! I always think of you Marc!!
I can't visit my town because it's old buildings, built on a hill, none are wheelchair accessible as most have a step to get into them. Unless DH takes me there (very rare) in manual chair and takes me up and over steps backwards using his strength, I never go. It's all over-priced anyway. Cute as heck to drive through but I visit rarely. My world here in MD is not very wheelchair friendly. |
Argh. I hate my computer. It freezes so that I cannot see the video. I must have a virus. Computer is freezing a lot. Frustration 'cause I wanted to see it NOW. just venting.

I just watched the video and it was great! I really enjoyed watching it and you have done a great job at making it ... thank you so much for sharing it with us all!!
I can SO relate to some of the issues you talked about when you're in a wheelchair. The UK is the same also and doesn't have any smooth road surfaces which makes it hard to push the wheelchair and leaves me feeling pretty sick!!!! I wish they would do something about it but for some reason, they wont and just think it is OK and not a problem!! Thanks again for sharing - it is so fun to watch your videos and I cant wait to see more soon!!!! |
I needed that! I don't believe you went off roading in central park...
Or as those of us who live on this side of the M/D line call it... Rootin! It's going to be a new olypmic event in the south mud bogg competitions between the Baby Carriage Mafia and the crazy wheelchair bandits. LOL |
Love the videos, another Great Adventure.

Another Fun and funny trip through the streets of NY.:D

My wife and I have family in the Baltimore area, so we know it fairly well. The crab cakes are amazing! Have you been to the restaurant G&M? The crab cakes there are almost indescribably good... I know what you mean about still rattling after you've gone over some bumpy pavement. There are some cobblestoned areas here in New York, and going over them can be very discombobulating... Quote:

Marc, that was great. It was such a nice surprise and lots of fun when you went off the road in Central Park.
One of the things on my list to do before I die is to see NYC. We will go to NJ to where my BIL and SIL live (they know and love NY), and we'll all make a day trip of it. I can't wait! Thank you for making such a great video and sharing it with us. |
I visited NYC a few times, in my younger years. I Heart NY..:D

Thanks Marc - that was a zippy and funny trip - you're getting better at movie making every time. That was another great view of the city and not the posteriors. Next time maybe a whole movie!:)
One thing I'm jealous of is you have all these things you can get to right outside your door. |
Marc, I sent the link to my SIL. She said that she used to live right in that same area and walk those same streets. She also said your video was great!:)

Marc,
Are you able to get on any of the buses or trains in your area while using your chair? When we were visiting Manhattan many years ago, I thought it was a nightmare getting around in taxis because they would take you out of Manhattan, but didn't want to take you back to Manhattan because of all the road construction. gmi |

We have a collection of delivery menus that has to number at least two dozen... Quote:

All of the buses in the city are accessible, though, and many of the subway stations are. I think the subways present more of a problem, because even though the stations may have elevators, they are not always working... I've never had trouble with the taxis here in the city. As a matter of fact, before I got the wheelchair I relied on them to get around. As for getting into and out of Manhattan, I've also never had a problem, but I've really no reason to leave Manhattan, other than to get to an airport. Actually, there are fantastic restaurants in Queens, because it's just about the most ethnically diverse area on earth. When I could get around better, we always went over there for terrific, cheap ethnic food. I guess I do miss that... |
