Weather change and chest pain.
We have a blizzard coming in to Colorado today. We are suppose to get 8 to 12 inches. That's what I think is messing with my chest pain.
Question is: How do you figure out what is causing a chest pain? How do you seperate the symptoms? RSD, Costo, TOS, Fibro, and heart problems? Ada |
Take This Seriously
I don't know the answer to this question. However, when anyone tells me they are experiencing chest pain I take it seriously. Call your physician and/or go to the ER. I hope you have someone there with you.

chest pain
Dreambeliever, I know your name from the TOS website. I am new at the RSD site. When there are atmospheric changes, i.e., rain, snow, etc. I feel alot more pain than usual. Today in NJ we are having rain and my pain is so much worse. I have TOS and RSD and my pain is in my right shoulder, chest area. Today I seem to be holding my chest, on the right side, all the time. I don't know a medical reason for it but know it happens to me. I saw the news today that you were going to have alot of snow so I hope you are ok. Good luck and try to take it easy.
My son is 16 and has just learned CPR in school. He saw me holding the right side of my chest the other day and thought he needed to do the procedure! He is 6' and about 230lbs. I am 5'2" and about 120lbs. I told him he would kill me!! It was my TOS/RSD/not a heart attack! Hope you get through this weather and pain! Don't shovel! Linda |
db128,
I've learned that most of us w/TOS, tend to rotate our shoulders inward, and rest our arms in our laps. This is the most "naturally" comfortable position with TOS. But, If you have heart issues as well, I' not a doctor, therefore, and even if I were a doctor, I' want to be SURE about my heart! As a matter of fact, my own Doctor had a HAttack recently, and he told me of the "Elephant on the chest" feeling. That's a far cry from TOS. Apparently I don't live so far from LinJane, and the cold rainy weather here, took me out today, too. Just be sure, OK? This is a question you should ask your doctor. ASB Pete |
Hi Girls,
I do think you are right on the TOS. I have had surgery on the right side and had a rib removed but on my left side I only had 3 inches of muscle taken out from under my arm to calm the chest pain. I just haven't dealt with it in a couple of years. I do see my Dr. tomorrow and he will give me some triggerpoint injections to try and calm it down.
I do have CAD and some other issues and now I am dealing with high cholestral. 345 and high blood pressure. He just checked me last week though and he said I sounded good. I do have a lifeline if I need any help but we do have a blizzard going on and the wind is blowing really hard. I think that is adding to my problem. I wouldn't even want to get the ambulance drivers out in this weather. Linda, my grandson's are 14 and 15 and already taller then me and they know not to hug me too hard. I wouldn't want them to do CPR on me neither. LOL Thanks for the help. It's just so darn confusing to try and figure out what is causing what. I know my body pretty well but this one I never can figure out. Thanks again, Ada Sorry Pete, for calling you a girl. LOL |
Ada, as I said I am new to this site but I also saw, poor Pete, being refered to as a girl, LOL! I am sure he's ok!
I appreciate the information here but am also very interested in everyones treatments. Right now they have me on neurontin and now oxycontin. I don't like taking that. I had a problem with it years ago and don't want to go through it again. I want to know if anyone has had the Ketamine infusions. That's what they want me to do and I have no idea if I should. Thanks, Linda! |
Yes indeed

Girls,
I've been called Far worse than anything you can do by including me as a "girl". Hahaha! It's all funny. We all need a little laugh occasionally. Linda, I had the Ketamine (not the coma) in Philly. I was monitored, as far as heart. It can have a side effect of stopping your heart. They titrate the ketamine up to a certain percentage. We know that pain is a "cycle". The Ketamine is just another way of "Stopping the Cycle". If you have the coverage, or paying for it is not a problem, and you trust your doctor, I'd say go for it. Feel free to PM me. ASB Pete (Just one of the girls)! |
Good Morning everyone.
Pete, I went back in to change that title but it wouldn't let me change it so I felt I had to say sorry. Are you one of those guys who don't care what they call you, just so they call you to dinner.
Linda, There have been several on here that have had good results from ketamine treatments. I have had the shots. My PCP gives them to me and he had special ordered the ketamine a few years back. He also uses lidocaine for my TPI's. I would definatly think about doing it. We got 8 inches of snow and suppose to get more. The roads were closed last night around us and up to 10 feet of snow drifts. The mountains were suppose to get up to 2 feet but I'm betting they got a lot more. We needed the moisture too. I don't know if I will make my Drs. appt. today even though it's only a few blocks away. Underneath the snow is solid ice. I just went out and cleaned my car off and it is a heavy snow. My chest is still hurting along with the left side of my head. It has now went around into my shoulderblade area. Sure now it's TOS. Linda, I am glad to see you here. My brain isn't too good at memory issues anymore. I will be 58 this year and I chalk it up to old age. Also between all the Linda's and Debbie's we have had on the forums when I get an email from one of them, I am thinking which one is this and what are they dealing with? Sorry for that too. Glad to see you here. Ada |
Hi,
The snows about melted but it's still cold.
I got two shots in my chest yesterday. My Dr. thought too it was the TOS and the Fibro doing it's thing due to weather change. I laid on a heating pad last night. The shots did the job. This is about the second time he had to give me shots there for the TOS since I had the 3 inches of muscle taken out to calm it. Before that I had many. Thank God for a good Dr. Now if summer would just get here. Ada |
Ada,
Yes, that's me! Call me anything, just not late for dinner, just like dear old Dad! A word about your memory, we cannot "process" things well while we're in pain. It just don't go together, dr S in Philly told me that, and kept reassuring me of it. You need to know and this is truly wisdom for those of us with chronic pain.... Know When To Stop. Shut down the thought process, and listen to music, watch the boob tube, have a conversation with a friend about something different... I'm involved in HD litigation with my wife, and etc. She is relentless in wanting to take everything I owned before marrying her, I was fairly well off... She wants it all. I should be "Making notes, writing this, that for my attorney"... can't do it. Sometimes when I can, I do well. But, If i push too hard, forget it all! It just won't happen. "His Will Be Done"... how i missed this god only knows. LOL i have chest pain alot. i have tackycardia and i get crushing pain alot. my cardiologst said that she things that is could be from the rsd and that the muscle and tissue are effected but that is hunch as on echo there is no such damage.
cant believe that you got snow.. wait yes i can LOL its warm and humid today been raining off and on all week and its been killing me to say the least. i think that alot of ppl anytime the barometer changes that it aggervates their RSD and TOS hugs to you hope DR M helped with the injections carrie |
Hi Pete,
You are right about the memory thing being effected by the RSD.
When I first started with my health issues I kept a diary. I wrote down everything from every Dr. I saw to what my PCP did for me and after getting RSD, I just stopped. I cannot concentrate on reading or writing these days. I'm actually glad for the computer. I have friends and family back home that I use to write to now they just email me or call me. I have one friend in her 70's that still writes to me and I have so much trouble getting letters off to her. I feel bad because she lives alone. You do need to write down all you can though for what you are going through. I wish I had kept it up with my diary. We have idiot Drs. that don't do right by us and if we keep diaries we might be able to use the info someday. I do listen to music. I pull songs up on the computer often and send them to friends. We do a remember when thing with them. I have a kareoke machine here and all kinds of tapes. I watch tv a lot too. I am not near as anxious as I use to be. When this first started, I couldn't sit still at all. Now I can. Sorry about what you are going through. I never went through divorce but I know it's hard on anyone. Carrie, the snow is almost gone. I went out in shorts awhile ago. We got about 8 inches. What's nice about around here is that it can snow one day and be gone the next. My sister told me about the rain down home so I know what you are talking about. I hate rain from growing up in Ky. She's comes out here every summer and got spoiled to the weather. Carrie, I do hope you are feeling better from those teeth. Ada |
I had a horrible day yesterday with snowflakes flying in the morning followed by wet cold rain for the rest of the day. Thankfully there is sunshine today! Here is a good article on weather sensitive pain by Dr. Schwartzman.

I hope you are all doing better today Ada. MsL |
Hi MsL
I was doing better until today. I went to help a friend out today at her antique shop and I lifted something I shouldn't have. Now I have a headache and the chest pain. Mine is definately the TOS right now.
With the RSD it is the barometer change. I can tell when it's changing. My RSD really acts up then more so then the weather. The wind is blowing hard here today so that might be making things kick in. That's a good article. I can remember back when I was growing up, my Grandmother saying her burcitis was acting up or her arthritis and she would say it was due to the weather. I heard that many times from people when I was a kid. It sure hasn't changed. Ada |
I'm sorry to hear that it is bad today, but happy it is not your heart!
Yes I heard that too from my grandmother. She suffered terribly from phlebitis. Spring is just around the corner, the robins showed up in my garden last week. I hope you feel better soon! MsL |
