2 Little GrandMoi's Jumping on a Bed....
hehehehehe
I thought a whole thread for this bunk bed topic would be great. :D There is a color sceme to pick..hehehe...type of bed..wood...can a 8 fingered Moi build it? Does he need a monkey to help? |
Such a Kewl idea!!! I wish I were closer to help! I love to build things! Love power tools!! I am the Son my poor dad always wanted....poor guy got stuck with 5 girls!
Of course we will have to do all sorts of Polls ...right? lol |
Also...good idea NOT to have that stuco type ceiling! Maybe a "padded" ceiling over bed will keep the jumpin monkeys head from hurtin??
|
Bed making tip for bunk/loft beds with younger sleeping in sleeping in them. They still have "accidents" once in awhile.
Double sheet them. Use a plastic sheet to protect the mattress, then a sheet, then another plastic, then another sheet. Easy to remove the wet one and still have dry under it. This comes in handy at 1am...:o |
hmmmmmm ......
Is there a place for a built-in white wipe-clean "black board"? Are the kids old enough for a cork bulletin board or would the push pins be too dangerous? |
hehehe wren...Lil'Monkey will be 15 nect month and I just let her have pushpins in her bedroom. I think I have vaccumed up about a dozen so far.
What is a good alternative is just a flat piece of metal and magnets. That is what GrandMonkey has. Lil'Monkey has a board that we placed ribbon criss cross and added hooks at the bottom to hold jewelry. I'll see if the batteries inthe camera are working. Very good ideas. Kids love black boards and dry erase ones. See Moi and Moss..we will have lots of fun projects for you. :D :p |
Where's the poll? ROFL! :D
:thud: |
I think Moi plans to put that near a window. :p

You are a smartee pants. :p

One of the BEST things I did for my children growing up was to allow then an entire Wall, that they could actually write on, paint on, there friends always thought it was so kewl to be able to write & sign their names and such. It was well known to them that This was the ONLY wall that could be marked up & they Never wrote on any other walls! Not ever! Everyone said I was inviting trouble, but it turned out to be an outlet of endless creativity!
Two coats of paint when we moved & it was gone. We pre washed with something to de-wax the crayon,,,good as new! The kids are 27 & 22 and they still remember this wall & tell me that when they have kids they will provide the same. Also someone mentioned magnets...That was used ALL the time as well! I had tons of fun..lol |
Top bunk spaceship or helicopter.
Bottom bunk race car or tank. Nono. This part is not up for discussion.:D And glow in the dark stars all over the ceiling. Or did I miss the joke? |
It makes it fun to clean up their room if you all put a pair of their underware on your head while you are doing it.
Oh, and take a picture for us. snicker* |
*smacks forehead...
*moi putting away duck tapes with sheepish grin... ummmm...and WHO is coming over to help us with all these "projects?" Oh wait, I've got a GREAT idea.... let's make this a GTG kids project. We'll supply food and drinks and you all can sleep on the bunk beds... OK, let's set a date for it. ;) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ but seriously, thanks for all the great ideas! Will look into all of them... still trying to come up with a design for the kids beds... one problem w/ the stairs one while that's our fave also is that the bed itself is too small (to make the bed larger would block the space) and since I am not a carpenter by trade. Not sure how pretty it'll look. As long as it ain't crooked...LOL but the blackboards, the stars, the double sheets, the "mural" and even the underware sound like great ideas! Got the magnets already. They love that and already showed them the "magic" of those. ;) Thanks everyone! 8 fingered moi out. |

Since you're not a carpenter by trade .............
Well, I'll bet there's a carpenter near you who is needy of your skill and would love the idea of trading. |
I have so enjoyed reading this thread. All of your creative ideas and excitement is contagious! As life changing as this will be...people like you all will help us keep perspective and remind us of what a wonderful adventure this will be.
Thanks for the ideas...for the enthusiasum...for the love. |
How will you decide who gets the top bunk? Draw straws? :D How about a "clocky" for an alarm clock for them? Colorful stacking containers for toys, games and other stuff? Walls painted happy colors like sunny yellow. :)
Moi and Moss, I think I missed the good news. Have fun getting ready for the grand-moi's.  Our sons always enjoyed story time. When they were about 12 they tired of it though, lol. |
Moi, is there a ceiling fan in the kids room?
|
YES, Careful with ceiling fans is for sure!!...NOT talking about the obvious....kids can be Quite inventive with ceiling fans! lol Just ask my cat!
|
Oh we won't talk about moi and ceiling fans. *grin a hard learned lesson.
|
absolutely no ceiling fans...LOL
that was one of the things we talked about when we built the house... I didn't like them for THAT(*sigh) specific reason...and then I just think that they are not practical and take away the space. well, the project might become too ambitious for me. (the beds) we might just end up buying them. I have been drawing them out and got more and more greedy. LOL Was just going to slap some 2X6 and 2X4 together with duck tapes. and I don't think my neck and hand will allow me to do any of the hard work right now. I had thought I could but don't think I should after some experiment the other day. Better wait til I see the docs and then decide what I can do... anyways, thanks for all the inputs. Ran into a little snag with the little ones. The date to get them has been set back a bit. But it's all good...we'll get them either way... ((((BIG HUGS)))) to all.... |
Moi, check for used sets on craigslist.org.
Also, Rooms to Go has outlets. Might be few scratches but worth the discount. Have you priced metal sets? The first one GrandMonkey had, had a twin on top, full size on the bottom. More of a bunk bed. Easier for me to fix. Not as high as the loft style. The bottom did make a nice play area. Second one, which we bought when we moved here, is a loft style with a desk built in. Also has a little shelf, desk light and clips to hand stuff. We paid less than $200. It's very sturdy. |
yep, have looked at everything...
that's where the headaches came in. LOLOL haven't checked out the outlet stores. The closest ones here are in Savannah, Ga. will have to find some time to get down there. Maybe this weekend. have been really eyeing this one. But it costs a fortune...kept on thinking I can build it. Maybe get wren over to build it for us. LOL ;) the bottom drawer pulls out to be a bed..how cool is that? http://www.bunk-beds-loft-beds.com/i...e-loft-bed.jpg |
So much fun ahead...
