I was just on another MS forum. There was a non-MSer asking questions about MS. I guess her husband has it.

She posted about 3 or 4 times, and every time she changed the colors of her text...didnt use the same color more than once.

The forum uses a white background, and she was using colors like bright yellow and light pink.

I had to highlight her text with my mouse to read her messages.

Does that irritate you? Especially in an MS forum??

I have to confess, when I was answering one of her questions, I did get a little snippy and asked her to at least use darker colors the next time she posts. (the post that she used the bright yellow on white...owww...I think my eyeballs imploded trying to read her message)

I'm waiting to get kvetched at about that. I posted once in that forum to another person to please use the return key occasionally and break up her text. I had to duck under an asbestos blanket to avoid the flames that came out of that person's response.

I guess some non-MSers dont realize that a lot of people with MS have vision problems. I might be able to see clearly now, and I can see colors, but I can no longer make my eyes be able to read yellow on a white background without my eyeballs wanting to roll away screaming.

Yep.

I hate that. And usually ignore them if I can't read it right off the bat.

Seems like the poster was more interested in the 'toys' of the site and trying to make an impression than learn about the disease.

Just goes to show you how little people understand about MS.....even those who live with someone who has it. Unless you "live it" you'll never fully "get it".

Usually a friendly reminder that the text is hard to read when it's so light is all that's needed. Or just ask them to break their text up into more paragraphs. I have to admit that I'd have never thought about that pre-MS but I sure do notice it now.

I use Navy on my e-mails, but it's just too much trouble here, to change colors.

Sometimes I will add color in my Happy Birthday type responses.:) I don't mind a little subtle color change, butttttt....

The bright colors do bother my eyes and the long posts without paragraphs are almost impossible to read..:eek:

Maybe night vision glasses would help, Erin..:D

Erin, sometimes people are using a different skin, so their colored font looks different to them.

Just a nice reminder that those light colored fonts can seem very bright and hard to read for some people.

Also, people do type out their replies on notepads or word processor type of programs and them copy and paste. Many times the spaces don't show up. People new to computers don't always know that they need to hit the enter key 2x to leave more space.

It's all in learning. Just takes using some gentle words.

Sally..I like the Tulip skin...your font is dark pink. :D

She probably doesn't realize it hurts some eyes. I think just simply educating her that it hurts some to read it and she may not get responses because of that would be fine. Her hubby may not have eye problems and maybe she's just learning.

The site I was on doesnt have the ability to let you change skins. (that would have helped when they changed their site design last fall...boy, you should have heard people complain...especially me)

It's just a white background, and people usually use the black colored fonts. There are occasionally people who have to go all fancy schmancy and change the font colors to something crazy and mostly unreadable.

I havent got a kvetchy response yet. I'm expecting it tho.

when I worked at another forum, we tried very hard to break up posts into paragraphs to make reading easier, and would change the color of text if it was difficult for us to read.

I have had ON several times, and my optic nerve is just so sensitive. I can no longer read many great books, and I can no longer watch vivid displays on TV. My new TV has a vivid color setting that makes things jump off the screen at you, but it kills me to watch it. I have to back it down to a normal display.

I think a bit of education should help her. Since she herself isnt affected, she may just be trying to be more cheerful with her colorful posts, and doesnt realize that we need breaks in our conversation, even if grammatically incorrect.

I frequently skip posters that have long drawn out paragraphs with blazing colors. That may explain why you were one of the only ones responding to her postings.

I so agree. But I've gotten so tired of trying to say anything to the people I live with, I can't even think other people will care what I have to say about stuff like this. I rather figure if my own family is not willing to accomodate, surely strangers don't care to.


I'm forever grateful to those patient enough to explain the whole mellow color, broken paragraph thing over and over.
